My husband had ACDF surgery this past week. From scheduling an appointment all the way through post op CNS staff and providers have been caring.informative and responsive. Dr G is kind and caring and he took the time to really explain my husbands condition. They have a wonderful education process. Salem is so fortunate to have this top notch neurosurgeon group on cooperation with the excellence of Salem Health. My husbands surgery was successful and his care has been outstanding. Dr G is communicative and a fantastic surgeon. Thank you Capital neuro.this will be life changing for my husband

I was very impressed from the start. The office staff greeted me and as we continued with check-in they refereed to me by my name. The girls were efficient and professional the whole time I was in the lobby area. The nurse was friendly and kept me informed on my wait time. I did wait quite awhile but I was told the doctor was finishing his hospital rounds and I know if I was his patient in the hospital I would appreciate his undivided care so I found my wait time a good thing if I was to be under his care. The doctor I felt was very honest as a surgeon saying at this point surgery was not necessary. That was a plus! He was friendly and thorough and spoke on my level for understanding. I would highly recommend this place based on my one visit.

I had an mri of my neck and asked Dr. Collada to look at it as he wants to do a spinal fusion which I am not doing. Dr collada told me to go to pain care specialists which I did.when I called the office they had no clue that Dr collada even looked at my mri. They denied that he looked at it, put me on hold and hung up on me. Needless to say I'll never ask these people for help wver again.

Dr Kafka explained what was wrong with me. He then told me what he was going to do. Dr Kafka came in every morning. He answered any questions that I had. Thank you for the kindness. God be with you always.

Had some scheduling issues and tons of miscommunication with the front desk (including showing up for an appointment that no one notified me was canceled), but once I was able to meet with a specialist, she provided a very thorough, informative and helpful appointment.

The downside of my appointment was… Lots of yelling and laughing behind the desk today while we were all waiting for appointments. It is always nice to know people are happy at work, but it felt like a group of teenagers outside a high school and it was very loud. I found it ironic to hear girls behind the desk screaming, joking dramatically and laughing several feet from a waiting room with signs to turn off cell phones.

Again, the actual appointment with the neurosurgeon was STELLAR. It’s just the communication and experience with the front desk/reception that was choppy.

My experience with the PA and surgeon were fabulous all around. I appreciate the time and patience of the specialists once I finally had my appointment.

It’s a mixed bag, but worth being on the calendar to have consult with neurosurgeon.

Dr Benjamin Kafka is an amazing Neurosurgeon! In early November after I was admitted for back surgery, he visited me prior to surgery, and patiently explained the procedure I would undergo.greatly reducing the apprehensions I had. I found him to be a very caring and personable MD who patiently listened and answered all questions I had! He is an excellent Surgeon and whom I do highly recommend! If not for my loving and caring wife and the genuine heartfelt professional care that Dr. Kafka extended to us in my hour of need, this letter would not be presented before your eyes today! This man has gone above and beyond any expectations ever imagined, not only is he highly skilled-credentialed, he radiates confidence, humility and calm, the good Lord has truly blessed Salem; the City of Peace, with his presence.

Little History:

As a result of a MVA almost 4 years ago now; severe headaches, neck, shoulder and right arm pain, digressed into one very long dark night of suffering. My Primary Care Doctor did a wonderful job of taking care of me, Physical Therapy, Cervical Radio Frequency Ablation, every 6 months; unfortunately contracted MRSA immediately following one of the many the aforementioned procedures. It would be at almost a year before any Doctors would even resume treatment again, except for my Primary Care Doctor; she is the greatest! Between the MVA and the MRSA infection, the pain increased as my ability to help pay bills and perform basic duties diminished.
After the MRSA our country would go into lockdown; Surgical Centers and full Hospitals again delayed my treatment. At the inception of the Pandemic my loving wife would get COVID and end up in the Hospital with her Internal Organs failing one by one, she fought for her life andweI prayed; after a lengthy recovery she is doing great today! As for my Treatment Plan it would have to wait until COVID Restrictions were lifted and Surgery Centers could reopen; Cervical Radio Frequency Ablation procedure could finally be performed to relieve the pain to possibly avoid surgery. By this time my intake of pain medications consisted of 7,10/350 Mg Hydrocodone and 4,10 Mg of time released Morphine Daily, yep, that is a heavy dosage… but it was just barely enough at the time, life was a blurr.

My wife and I have raised 8 children, still own a small farm complete with Beef Cattle, Chickens, dogs etc and lots of chores to do each day, sitting around has never been an option as most you well know.

After careful consideration I choose to meet Dr. Kafka in late summer/early Fall of 2022, immediately felt a connection to him, he ordered diagnostic and asked me to attend all the patient education workshops and by Jan 6th of this year Dr. Kafka performed my surgery, still in awe and unable to visualize how this man moved me around on the Operating Table and stretched/straighten me out to installed of screws, rods and spacers etc between vertabres C7 and C4.

Waking up after surgery was NIOT one bit pleasant, however, within 48 hours the old pain was measurably better in my lower neck, shoulder and right arm. This man may appear to be gentle and soft spoken, but I assure you, don’t let his mild appearance fool you; he could play offense for the Green Bay Packers and will got the job done! I am 6’4” tall now and 279 LBS, and yes, the surgical site is still sore as my body adapts to the newly installed hardware. … btw, I was only 6’3” tall before the surgery. LOL

As of the date of this letter, only take two 5 mg tablets pain pills that I break into 4 tiny pieces daily, as needed, along with 6-8 Extra Strength Tylenol and lots of water as I attempt to pack my bales of hay, feed chickens, cleans stalls and do my part as a husband and Father.

Thank you so very much Dr. Kafka, for significantly reducing my physical pain, easing of my mental instability, helping me to appreciate my worthiness and giving me a desire to live life again and most of all not treating me like some lessor human soul.

Dear Dr. Nanaszko.
I wanted to take a few moments to thank you and your team for the incredible care I received this past year. The spinal fusion surgery has been very successful. I am back to playing golf, fishing, crabbing, hiking and really enjoying life again. Working out in the yard and keeping up with our 6 grandchildren isn't quite as challenging as it once was. Even when I overdo it, as I am known to do, the recovery time is much less than it used to be. My wife and I will be eternally grateful for my new lease on life. We are looking forward to a very busy summer visiting and hiking in Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, Phoenix Arizona, John Day, Paulina Lake and the Oregon Coast. Please tell Megan and Michelle I said Hi!

I have been to many doctors in my day. Never have I been treated so wonderfully. The front desk, the nurses, and, last but not least, Dr. Nanasko.
I feel CARED for. The doctor sat down and spoke to me like a person. Everyone that works there was seemed happy and content in their job.
What a breath of fresh air.

Dr. Nanaszco was great from the time I met him until my last follow up appointment for my cervical spine surgery. He explained things thoroughly and in ways I could totally understand. He gave me plenty of time for questions and answered them all patiently. I highly recommend him as a neurosurgeon.

Fantastic staff and Dr. Nanasko is great! They all helped immensely frim paperwork to surgery.

Dr. Nanaszko was absolutely wonderful through the complete process. From first meeting to surgery and after, I felt confident I was going to be able to function normally again.

Not to be forgotten is the great staff who pays close attention to you and all the details.

I just completed my six week check up following lower lumbar surgery. I couldn't be more pleased with the entire experience. EVERYONE in Dr. Nanaszko's office is beyond wonderful. Each time I had a question they returned my call immediately. Friendly and caring to make my me relaxed and confident.

Dr. Kafka did a beautiful job removing a tumor from my brain. Recovery from the procedure (2 months so far) has gone very smoothly - minimal to no pain from the beginning, and a large incision that was artfully closed and has healed with no drama. Dr. Kafka's manner is friendly and not rushed, and he clearly communicated with us what the procedure would entail. Our family highly recommends him!

I would like to say that my experience with capital neurosurgery specialist has been a very good experience right from the beginning. The link between them and the Salem health spine center is a match made in heaven. I was moved through the process very quickly, which in these last couple years is unheard of. I really appreciated all the communication from any of the staff that I dealt with from the very beginning, during and even after surgery. Dr Kafka also did a great job communicating and being honest through the whole experience as well. He listened to me and gave me options, I felt like he was very sincere and professional. Dr Kafka did a great job with my cervical spine fusion both letting me know what to expect from the surgery, and the best way to take care of healing and the incision. I also appreciated both the information class / video opportunity as well as the information book. I met Dr Kafka in the Salem Hospital ER. The ER Dr.ordered an MRI which led to the consultation with Dr. Kafka. He kindly and thoroughly explained what was happening with my spine. He, again, thoroughly explained my options and what likely outcome each would provide. Surgery was agreed on. Right from the start I felt like we were a team. After surgery he showed me pictures and explained to me what he did to fix me up. When I went into surgery I had little to no use of my left leg. Four days later I’m using a walker, my leg holds straight and with therapy and exercise I hope to make a full recovery. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Kafka. He’s the best.

Dr. Hatchette has been great along with the assistant. He was thorough, professional and very nice. I feel very comfortable with background and I will probably be having surgery soon and I have every confidence in his skills and experience.
