From entering the facility during Covid and going through a resident cycle without external support, I felt that Cedar Crest did a remarkable job. They are compassionate and understanding. I encountered several men that had placed their wives with Cedar Crest, and we all agreed that we were blessed to have wives taken care of at Cedar Crest. The best review I could give is that, if I had to do it over again, I would choose Cedar Crest without reservation. No Memory Care Facility is perfect, and they are subject to customer complaints, but I believe Cedar Crest is one of the best.

I wonder if things have changed since some of the last reviews. We moved our Dad in here 5 months ago and I am happy with this facility. The staff seem attentive and caring and it looks like the staff to resident ratio has improved in the last few months. We always get a call if there is any noteworthy incident and management has always been responsive to questions and concerns.

I couldnt agree more with the most recent reviews. Sadly I was one of the staff members who left because of poor COVID protocols and poor management. I pray for all the residents and family members. I also pray the new management company and Executive Director can make a difference in the lives of those most vulnerable.

Our family 100% agrees with Debi’s review – if you love your family member, look elsewhere!

We moved our dad to Cedar Crest in early 2021, as they were one of the only facilities in the area that said they could handle and support his dementia-related behaviors. It had also been recommended by our case manager. It was clear from the get-go, however, that their standards of care had fallen significantly from a previous time, and the most they could do was “crowd control” for their residents.

Our dad fell many times while at Cedar Crest, and staff was almost never able to tell us how it happened – they would always just say, “We don’t know what happened, we found him on the floor. ” Falls do happen with dementia patients, of course. But the tenth time you hear that explanation, it’s clear that they simply don’t have enough staff to provide a humane level of care. There were some amazing staff doing their best in a challenging environment. But following one visit, I circled the entire facility 4 (!) times trying to find someone to tell me where I should leave my dad. I didn’t see a SINGLE staff member on the floor – they all must have been busy helping other residents in their rooms, leaving absolutely no one to watch over the 20 or so other residents out in the hallways or in the common areas. NO ONE.

Over the unfortunate year that our dad was there, we watched him retreat further and further into himself as a way to simply cope with the chaos that surrounded him. Staff turnover was rapid and constant. He wasn’t fed either breakfast or lunch one day. During a covid outbreak in early 2022, he was infected and quarantined in a temporary covid wing. It was unbelievably chaotic – his belongings were shoved into trash bags and thrown into an overflowing closet (and some things were broken in the process), and the shared room he was in had broken furniture piled in one corner. He was basically sitting in his wheelchair in the middle of a maze of furniture and equipment, while temporary staff did their best to simply keep people contained. This was not the early days of covid – the facility had had two years to plan for an outbreak, and when it came, they were seriously scrambling.

Most tellingly, when we were finally able to move our dad to a new facility, his demeanor changed instantly. Like, that very same day. He started saying more words, and would look at us and smile and laugh and engage – all things that he had completely stopped doing in his last months at Cedar Crest. In fact, when the new facility staff came to Cedar Crest to evaluate our dad and make sure they could appropriately care for him, their first comment was (and this is verbatim) : “Oh. Let’s get him out of here. ”

I couldn’t agree more.

When we first moved our mom into Cedar Crest three years ago, it appeared to be the best memory care facility in the area. At that time most of the caregivers and staff had been there 5-15 years. In the next few months, some of the best caregivers and staff began to leave. As Covid hit and we were locked out, the care waned and more caregivers and staff left. Our mom fell MANY times. Please note that there were caregivers that went way beyond the call of duty but were powerless without management support.

During a Covid outbreak at one point they had one caregiver on the Covid side and one on the non-Covid side with approximately 23 residents on each side. Our mom suffered a "fall" causing severe trauma to her face, with a bump on her forehead that lasted over 2 months. Cedar Crest did not contact EMS or notify the family directly when this happened. We learned about this incident when we called the next day to see how she was doing with Covid.

They always used the excuse "it's because of Covid, it's so hard, we can't find caregivers. " This does NOT validate NEGLECT!

I worked here for nearly 3 years about 4 years ago. The Administrator and supporting managers are very committed to serving residents with compassion and high quality of care. The corporate level staff are equally committed. I appreciated so much the never ending pursuit they have to providing a beautiful home setting for residents with dementia coupled with highly trained caregivers and charge nurses

Poorly managed and staffed. Some of the caregivers acted unprofessional and even hostile towards clients and other staff. I find it hard to believe that the management tolerates such behavior but they do. There are too many alternatives to have to settle with this organization.
