Crater Rock Museum reviews
18Great selection of gems, rocks, fossils and meteorites. Impressive and worth the visit, highly recommend.
Great and interesting way to spend an afternoon. Much more extensive collection of rocks, gems, etc.than I expected + fossils, dinosaur stuff too. Will definitely return, especially when the grandkids are here for a visit.
Awesome lots of rocks to purchase in the gift shop going back on our next trip to Medford Oregon
Loved the fossils and florescent rocks. My grandson loved anything that looked like diamonds and the rock candy
The outdoor rock pile was a little disappointing, thereby the 4 stars. Worth the visit.
Amazing experience! And that was just the gift shop! Room after room of rock samples and history. Unable to view it all in an afternoon. Will go again.
This museum is just breath taking. The collection of fossils is among the best. And the different rock and displays are as good if nit better than the simthsonan in washing. Exhibits in each room out does the next. There florescent room with the black lights is a great hit for the children along with the display of Rock figurines of planes, cars and other items. The cost is very reasonable and plan on being there at least 2 hours. Please visit this outstanding museum in Central Point, Oregon well worth the visit.
Amazing and breath taking, if you are into Geology and learning some of the history of the Coast and seeing spectacular pieces of minerals as well as some items hand carved by people, this is the place! The gift shop is also very well organized and staff is very welcoming to people who want to learn or are into the hobby. They have alot of services to offer to the general public.
Awesome place to let the kids, and yourself, need out. So many cool things to see, from the outside I thought it was only a couple rooms but there's so much more than that. Beautiful minerals, awesome meteorites, and even fossils! Plus our daughter got to pan for her own rocks to keep, we had a blast.
When you walk in, you are greeted with the gift shop first. The gift shop is huge and at first - if you have never been - one almost thinks it is the museum. Until you purchase the tickets for the museum, and you realize just how big the whole place is. They have cases and cases of gems and geodes and fossils and incredible things to see.
If you have never been, I highly recommend asking about the Thundereggs they have. You pick one out and can pay extra to have them cut it open right there to see what's inside! My small group of 3 picked one each, and the wonderful gentleman who cut ours explained what was on the inside, where thundereggs come from and how they are formed. Each one of ours was different from the other, and nothing the same on the inside!
10 out of 10 would recommend taking the kiddos or even the "young at heart" to this beautiful Rock Museum to enjoy all the beauty that nature provides us!
Not overly impressed. Souvenir shop as you walk in. Prices in my opinion seemed a bit high. Entrance into the actual museum was 7.00 again seemed a bit high. Just my opinion though
Probably the greatest place I've seen for crystals, gems, and stones, the fossils are amazing too. Highly advise the tour pass:)
I was expecting some local rocks. What I found was a true world class collection from around the world! (And if you include the meteorites thought to originate from the Moon and Mars, then from around the Solar system.)
Most samples are well labeled, with type and place of origin and date found.
Wonderful collection of fluorescent minerals in a dark room with UV lights that cycle different wavelengths and white light.
Very spacious, clean, and beautiful building with friendly staff.
The display on metamorphic rocks includes a piece of gneiss (pronounced nice). Nothing rare nor remarkable about it. But, I appreciate it because most people just take it for granite.)
I had called a few other places to try and find what a boulder was that my father had given me. I sent along some photos and the same day the owner got back to me with the answer. I was so pleased as my dad and I are rock junkies and I had told him what I believed it was.
The people here were very helpful and friendly. There are only 2 rock museums in Oregon and I will be visiting this one soon. Maybe with a few smaller rocks and another donation although I was never asked for one, they did appreciate it.
They were having a "Rock/Gem show" the guy running it brought in LOT of different gems, crystals and rocks. I loved the energy in that place and having access to the different stones. The prices were also very reasonable, I picked up a lot! Hopefully they come back again soon!
Very interesting place. A lot bigger than it looks. The set up inside is perfect. Lots to educate one self or groups. Even if you're not a rock hound this is a great place to visit.
Went to a rock show that they held in the side room of the main facility but still got to go through the main area! Everything was beautiful!
Wonderful collection of raw and finished pieces. Staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, it's a must-see place. There is a admittance fee for the museum.
A very nice and inexpensive way to spend about an hour looking around at interesting rocks and fossils from around the world. The staff is nice and parking is alway available. The only thing is I wish that they had is a guided tour. I think 90 % of the people stepping inside have no idea what they are looking at other than it looks "cool". Who knows maybe they do offer is to schools as a field trip but I have never seen it myself. I must say over all a nice smaller museum.
