David Douglas Day Care, Portland OR

We have been a part of the DDDC community for over 6 years, and currently have our second child attending there. The hours can't be beat, and the fact that it is a family run business, with committed staff who have been employed at the daycare for years is a huge bonus! It is a place where we know that our kids are loved and well cared for. Communication is key, and I feel extremely comfortable talking to any DDDC staff due to the respect and rapport we have developed. We have and will continue to refer parents to "our" DDDC!

My daughter has been attending David Douglas daycare since she was 12 weeks old. She will be 3 in April. DDDC has met and exceeded our expectations as a daycare. Their staff is amazing and really cares about the kids. They teach them to do be independent, nurture them to be kind and gentle with one another and themselves, and they make the cutest crafts (the Thanksgiving Turkey is my favorite! The teachers are open to hearing your concerns when they arise and work with you to figure out a solution. If you need to discuss anything with the directors or owners, they make themselves available and are also open to any feedback/concerns. There’s nothing scarier than being a first time mom and having to leave your kid with strangers (especially when she started during the pandemic), but I am so so glad we found DDDC. It feels more like a big family than a daycare, and I recommend them 100%!

Our children started at DDDC during the covid-19 pandemic. Prior to that our children, ages 15 months and 3-years-old, had been at home full time. Initially we were a bit nervous to transition them, especially during the pandemic. These past two years have flown by! The teachers and staff at DDDC have become an extension of our family. Our children are happy, loved and learning new things constantly! Best decision ever.

Disclaimer: This review is based on our tour of the facility. Our child does not attend David Douglas Daycare and we do not intend on enrolling them. My hope is that this review will warn people off from making a deposit before touring. See the facility before giving them any money.

I was really shocked at the state of the facility and what we saw based on all of the 5 star reviews here on Google and Facebook. It very well could be that they were having an off day and the staff make up for the poor conditions, but we will not be risking the quality of our child's care to find out.

The infant building desperately needs a fresh coat of paint, absolutely reeked of bleach and the caregivers weren't interacting with the children. One child had layers of dried snot running down his face. Not an uncommon occurrence with infants but it was clear his face hadn't been attended to in some time. The rooms are tiny and dark, everything was so cramped. The preschool building was in better shape but so much stuff cluttered every shelf and surface I had trouble focusing.

One child was left in an office shrieking by themselves while two attendant s stood at the desk outside. I don't know the specifics of the situation, but I don't want my child left locked in an office by themselves, melt down or not.

We have been taking our son here since he was just 6 weeks old and he’s just recently turned 2. The amount of love and care the teachers here give is simply incredible. Our child has learned so much from them. It’s such a relief knowing that we can go to work knowing that our child is in a caring, attentive, nurturing, and educational environment. I can’t recommend DDDC enough!

We started at DDDC when my daughter was 10 months old. She had never left the house before this. By the third day, she didn't want to leave and laughed in delight whenever I dropped her off! The teachers here are amazing, she is always well fed and well rested. They give you detailed reports of your child's day, and everyone recognizes your child and you. I love walking in every day and having whatever teacher is there know exactly which toddler I'm picking up, and being able to get her. It's a wonderful personal touch.

We are so sad to leave, but our jobs are too far to make this a feasible daycare option for us. Everything about DDDC shows their care, authenticity, and professionalism. I can't recommend this place enough!

This place is great and has been since day 1. We have two kids here for the last few years and I wouldn’t even think about changing providers. The staff, teachers and helpers are all great and they have been responsive and flexible, especially during the last year.

I am so lucky to have found DDDC and enroll my children there. My son, now two years old, has been attending since he was 5 months old. My daughter will join at six months.
DDDC staff are professional, so caring, and truly have fun at their job. A thing to note- they have great staff retention. We had the same teachers for all of my son's time in the infant house. As a first time mom with my son, I learned so much from all of the teachers and I have always felt comfortable leaving him there. In fact, he has never cried and now just walks in the building like he owns the place.
Scott and Kelsy, the owners, are very responsive. Prompt email replies, present every day at check in to talk with, and I think I've talked on the phone with Scott at least twice a month just to check in. All around great place.

Our daughter has been at David Douglas Daycare since she was 4 months old, based on a recommendation from a friend who already had two children attending there.

From day one, the staff have been supportive and adaptive to our child's needs, which has helped us immensely in how we approach our parenting, as well.

We know that, as our daughter will soon transition to kindergarten, David Douglas Daycare was one of the best decisions we made in helping her grow and develop, while providing us with better insight to adapt to her needs in the future.

We have nothing but great things to say about DDDC! The owners and staff are of the highest quality (kind, responsive, personable, organized). We loved this place prior to the pandemic and have only been exceedingly more impressed with how they have handled the constant changes and supported the kids and families during this trying time. We are so, so thankful for DDDC and highly recommend to any and every family looking for care!

David Douglas Daycare has been a life saver for our family! It has always been a safe and reliable place for our kids. During the pandemic, they have adapted everything to maintain cleanliness and safety for all of their staff and the children who attend. We can also tell that the staff really enjoy working there, which which makes it an enjoyable place for our kids. I highly recommend David Douglas!

We started at the David Douglas Daycare in April of 2020, as our previous daycare had closed and my husband is a nurse/ essential worker. We have been so pleased with the quality of the school, our daughter has been very happy in all the classes there (she started at 2, is now 3.5). The teachers she had when she was younger were instrumental in helping with potty-training and were such loving instructors, and she is learning a lot in her new classroom this year, Teacher Lee's class, and loves the staff and the other students. She loves being at "school"! The staff l have been very responsive to Covid protocols and safety, and are great communicators. We very much recommend this to those who are thinking of it!

This is a wonderful day care. We are going on almost 6 years of our child attending. She loves it, they have gave her a wonderful atmosphere to grow in. They allow me to feel that she is safe and in a positive supportive environment when we are at work. I definitely recommend them to anyone looking for child care.

We love DDDC. They are basically extended family to us. They make it a point to work with the parents when the kids are having issues or need support they communicate and support the parents and the kids. My son has been here for about 2.5 ish years and they have helped him grow so much socially. The teachers legitimately care for the students and the family’s. We will be sad to leave once our kiddo is older. If your looking for childcare this is the place. Hands down. Teacher Alyssa, teacher Tara and teacher Rachael are all Fantastic! All of the teachers and staff are really fantastic!

Our kids have been going to David Douglas Day Care for over 6 years now, 3-5 days a week. Our daughter started at 16 months and our son at 10 weeks. They love being there so much that it's hard sometimes for them to come home. They love all of their teachers and learn so much from them. They bring home healthy habits and the most adorable art projects. Each person at the center truly cares about your child's well-being and their development and we are grateful for them. We love our DDDC family!

My family started going to DDDC in 1992 and since then we have had 11 family members attend. I currently have 3 children in the daycare and I would not take them anywhere else. The owners and staff are absolutely amazing! We are so glad to be apart of the DDDC family!
