Design Within Reach reviews
4 Called to confirm they had Herman Miller office chairs in stock and available to view and purchase. Was told yes! Clearly they have ZERO idea of what the general understanding of 'in stock' means. So I made the three plus hour round trip drive to be told 'NO you cant get one now it would have to be shipped from OHIO, we are just a showroom'. Absolute waste of my time and money! So much so I am now looking at other brands. Side note: Their website does not in any way state this is just a showroom!
As you can see from their response below there is no acknowledgment that this is a poor approach. Maybe change your website to say this location is only a showroom and you will have to wait who knows how long for the product?
Things are very expensive there and not everything worth the price. However you pay for the brand and quality. They charge what you would pay online for the same brand.
The staff are very friendly, and the showroom is nice, but unfortunately competence is not in large supply here.
I put in an order, was told it would take 16 weeks and that they would follow up with a DocuSign. One month, didn't hear from them. I wrote back, was told "the person who originally helped you is out sick. I can't help you because everything is tied to their account. " I don't have a problem with delays because people get sick, but it's also not cool to have processes as simple as new orders blocked by one person/tied to one person. Also, were they just recently sick? (Then what about the preceding month?) We're they sick long term? (Then why didn't someone else take over their account?) But I pressed on. When the sick person was back, they finally sent over the document, two months after that, I called to confirm my order was progress, was told that it was. It's now been 6 months since that last contact. Pretty unconscionable how they jerk us around like that.
