I once recommended this place but no more. The renovations have been going on forever (>6m) and now, the elevator is out of service (>1m). Why they now charge an extra $20/ngt for you having to schlep your own luggage up & down two flights of stairs is beyond me. Most alarmingly, they withhold these facts from you until *after* you’ve made a non-refundable booking. To be avoided.

Newly renovated guest rooms. One of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Nice complementary breakfast.

Reduce your rates and communicate to customers that you’re undergoing a renovation and don’t have an entrance or elevator. We were fortunate to get a first floor room. The room was nice, quiet, breakfast good, but epic fail on not communicating about the renovations. We would have stayed elsewhere. Poor form Marriott!

Unfortunately this hotel was awful.
1) We wait check in around 15 min, i dkn why, but the woman on the desk just goes out, and leave the desk
2) I m 19, and when she saw my driver license, she said, that I cant check in, but it’s a good thing, that I was with my friend, and yet we checked in.

As many reviews have noted, this property is undergoing renovation. Entrance is through the door on the north end while the main entry is being rebuilt. The dichotomy between the revised and previous sections is clear.

Check in was quick and friendly, but I was again not welcomed as a Bonvoy member - I guess this isn't a thing anymore. Meager offerings at the Pantry.

Room was on the smaller side, but clean. Furniture is starting to show some wear. Hopefully this will be remedied during the remodel.

Lounge chair was the most uncomfortable I've ever sat it. I've known dining chairs with more comfort. A proper lounge chair with side table should be added.

Wifi was fair - weak, but steady. TV was not the internet-enabled type usually found at Marriott properties, so there are no streaming options. At least there was an on-screen guide.

Breakfast was the usual spread. I'm curious about the decision to put out cups of waffle batter rather than having a dispenser. The open cups of batter seemed to dry out and get gummy. Also, only 2 salt & pepper shakers for the entire dining area, instead of sets for every table, or individual packs.

Only two dining options in walking distance. All others require a drive.

Check in notes- hotel is under construction and the elevator does not work so anyone who stays here will have to drag all of your belongings up and down stairs. I am tired of Marriott doing this, these things should be told to customers while booking the room. Not worth the money to stay here

Update: Someone at this hotel retaliated against me leaving this review. I originally booked a 5 night stay here. After the first night I woke up to my reservation being changed to one night and I was already checked out. Currently escalating this through Marriott. Do not stay here.

Update #2- Hotel lied to the Marriott and claimed I went to the front desk and checked myself out early. Marriott takes that as fact and there is no resolution to this. I will no longer be a member of this hotel brand. Hilton and IHG offer better member packages and points.

I arrived Tuesday night at about 11pm from my flight. I do not see on the website where it mentions the hotel is under construction, but it is. This was fine and not really a disturbance. But, it does have the main entrance closed, and requires you to enter through a back, less-trafficked entrance. Wednesday morning I used my mom's car to get some groceries before heading to our small town. I parked close to the temporary entrance, went upstairs for 10 minutes, and came back to the trunk of my car being completely open. All the groceries were stolen as well as everything in the glovebox. This was caught on camera but as the car was unlocked and the amount of money was not in the thousands, there was nothing to be done. I was essentially told "this is the new Portland". I think if this is so common, especially while guests are required to use the back entrance, the hotel should have regular security so this does not happen to anyone else. I lost over 100$ worth of groceries and it was pretty devastating and it was not treated as a big deal.

Worst hotel experience in a very long time. At the time of our visit on March 7,2023 the hotel was being remodeled. We did not know this. The hotel was a shambles and unappealing. Additionally, we apparently got the room next to the elevator mechanics. Loud noise throughout the night! The staff was apologetic about these issues but offered no assistance. I frequently stay at Fairfield Inns and this experience was not typical, but I will remember it when I make future travel plans.

Hotel is being updated. We spent the night in a room with new carpeting, and renovated restroom. It looks great.
Continental breakfast was good, in a newly renovated dinning area.

Didn't know the hotel was under construction when I booked it. The finished areas are very appealing. I'm sure once done, it will be worth the stay. Price was good, but would have booked elsewhere if I had know about the construction mess.

The front of the hotel is being renovated, so the entrance is on the side of the building. Great breakfast food in the mornings.

Horrible management. I overheard the manager speaking to their employees here and she was demanding they do her job! They do not treat their workers with respect here.

Pretty nice hotel. What they didn’t say is that they were renovating the main lobby so you have to follow the obscure signs to find a way in which also reduces security to the building.
Inside it was updated, shower hot, bed soft so no complaints there.

The hotel didn’t schedule breakfast to start until 7am (an hour later than most hotels).
Not that it mattered, because they didn’t even begin to start setting up for breakfast until ten after 7. If you are traveling on a schedule this is not the place to stay.

There was one small luggage rack in the room so we asked for a second to accommodate my somewhat large suitcase. It never came during our three night stay so every morning I plopped my suitcase on the bed to open and closed it up at night to put on the floor. When we asked where the stairs are, the front desk attendant did not know and had to find out herself. We needed a replacement key; the front desk was happy enough to give us one, but it didn’t work. We were sweating the airport shuttle the morning we were leaving when the desk clerk said your shuttle is outside now; we went out - no shuttle. It did pull up after 10 minutes. Breakfast was satisfactory.

Room was clean and as expected for a Fairfield Inn. The shower pressure was extremely weak.

Despite being under renovations, quality and service was still top notch.

Conveniently located on the outskirts of Portland closer to the airport and shopping.
