I absolutely love this facility. All of the equipment and areas are very clean and well-maintained. The staff are friendly and do a great job of answering questions. The community at The Y have been nice folx and I typically engage in light conversation with at least one person during my visit.

I almost never leave reviews but this place deserves a better rating.

I joined YMCA because of their swimming pool. It looked good two months ago (June), but now it is getting worse:
1. Only two shower rooms have hair dryer, there were three before.
2. They didn't maintain the shower rooms clean and hygiene. They were dirty most of the time when I walked in.
3. It used to be quiet in the pool, now the lifeguards play music. It is very disturbing.
4. YMCA never respond my questions via emails, seems like they don't care customers' opinions.

Two stars are for the Gentle Yoga class. The teacher is very nice.

Best YMCA I’ve been to based on cleanliness and the equipment is all top-quality and new! Even has a rooftop track and lounge area. If I lived in town, I’d be here all the time!

This facility's customer service has consistently declined since reopening. The staff do not care about members or their experience. Additionally, they claim to be a community-driven organization, but operate like a traditional revenue-hungry gym. I have kept my feedback limited over the last year since I truly believed that the staff cared enough to be responsive to member feedback. Since that hasn't happened, I will be completely transparent. The child care center is understaffed and will only be fun for children who are good at independent play. If you have a child who is shy or has a hard time playing independently, they will likely be ignored or sat in front of the TV. Additionally, the pool is not accessible to most lap swimmers. The worst decision the YMCA made with the redesign was removing the lap pool. When given feedback about additional time for lap swimmers, the aquatics coordinator scoffed and said "if you want to lap swim go to the Courthouse" which is the opposite of a community driven response. I have wasted months worth of membership fees because the gym is overcrowded and equipment is unavailable. For a working parent, this gym is a waste of money and time. The childcare, pool schedule, exercise experience, and community events have all failed to meet expectations set by the YMCA staff. Additionally, don't expect to be able to hold your account for a month as promised when signing up. You will instead be asked to cancel your account with 30 days notice meaning you will still being charged for the next month. Make no mistake, even if the YMCA won't uphold their verbal agreements, they will squeeze every last penny out of you before you're able to cancel. Stay far away and, as Amy the aquatics director stated, just go to the Courthouse.

My daughter is in the preschool, the YMCA has been a godsent for childcare. The staff are amazing and great with small energetic children. The building is always clean you can count on the staff to ask for ID if you walk in too. Safety is important when children are involved. I am so blessed to have been able to secure a spot for my little.

Thank you for all that you do!

Joining the YMCA has been a HUGE benefit to our family! We love the new facility, downtown location, range of equipment, pool, basketball court, and more. Our young daughter looks forward to the kid care area, where she can play while we exercise. Staff are great, very friendly and helpful. This is a big plus for Salem and we are thrilled at how well this project came together.

I am so pleased that they are bringing in children who otherwise would not be able to swim. Applause! Parking is still a major concern even with 2 small parking lots. If you are here during a popular time for classes like at 10 or 11am best of luck getting a space. People really do circle looking for a space.

I love the pool and wish they also had water aerobics in the evening for people who work during the day.

I would have loved the 2nd floor lockers rooms (no swimmer allowed) to be on the 1st floor. The limited amount of unisex showers for swimmers on the 1st floor don’t work for 25 water people at once. The showers are also dressing rooms and again good luck as they shower and change in those limited rooms. There are additional just changing rooms but that doesn’t work for people who have sensitive skin and must wash the pool off before going home.

I am happy to write a 5-star review for the YMCA! I have been a member for several months now and have been extremely impressed with the facilities, equipment, and staff.

First of all, the Y is always clean and well-maintained. The equipment is new and shiny. It’s in excellent condition and there is always plenty of it available. I rarely have had to wait to use a machine, which is a huge plus.

The staff members are also wonderful. They are always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They go out of their way to make sure that members feel welcome and comfortable, and are always available to answer any questions or offer advice.

One of the things that I appreciate most about the Y is childcare. Our 3 year old loves going as much as we do! The Play and Learn staff are warm, caring, and always attentive to the needs of the children. There are age appropriate toys and there seems to be a variety that are switched out so things feel fresh and interesting. Our daughter is never bored - even when we go multiple times a week.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Y to anyone looking for a great workout experience with excellent childcare.

The new YMCA in Salem is just beautiful! I personally love the swimming pool and the workout machine area, but the kids' play area, free weights and rooftop walking track are also great. My experiences with the team have all been so positive. I'm also grateful for the many community events this location has been able to organize and make available to community members.

Fun and clean new location is great and the website too. And I was worried about parking when I joined, was pleased to find out they have two parking lots.

I would give 0 stars if I can and please avoid it at all costs. After following all the guidelines to cancel the membership at the front desk, my card continually gets charged without my authorization. The front desk was unreachable most of the time and the managers have been unresponsive. Horrible experience.

Terrible service drove half hour and asked for a day passed when I arrived. Lady told me we would have to talk with another person after she finishes up. Waited 40 mins as both front desk ladies continued signing up other member's and putting other people in front of us when we just had a question…
