Fish & Rice reviews
18Wow! One of the most underrated places in Portland. Cute and cozy spot full of charm, plus incredible high quality fish with interesting and fun rolls and bowls. Had a phenomenal lunch here! Staff is so friendly too. Will be back!
Our go-to sushi place. Always go in wishing they had the lunch special still.
The crispy shrimp has been changed recently, but still amazing.
Saw this place in a tiktok and found out we had parked next to it and gave it a go. Cozy, friendly vibe. Fresh and beautiful dishes. Very glad we stopped in!
This is only in respect to their customer service, specifically when you call. We called because we wanted to place an order and we had only said “Hi” when a guy rudely answered by telling us they were all sold out for the night and hung up on us. This was at 6.30PM on a Saturday and we could hear it was busy. However, there is a way to politely tell customers you can’t fulfill new orders, this was not it. Please improve your customer service!
Very beautiful spot to eat at in the summer time where you can sit outside. The inside is very cute and aesthetic. The menu has a lot to choose from and I recommend the salmon poke bowl. The plating is very beautiful and sushi rolls are so elegant you almost don’t want to eat it. Wouldn’t say this is authentic poke but it’s a refreshing meal to eat. Staff is very nice and helpful when you have no idea what to order.
Such a great spot! Very cute, delicious food, and a great playlist. I got two of the vegan rolls and the veggie dumplings — they hit the spot.
Took my son out for some Bday sushi. I don't enjoy it as much as them, if I did, this is where I wld go. Plus the Japanese whiskey is super smooth?
Loved the food, however the staff that were there when I went were fairly short and off-putting. I had a hair in my food, and instead of apologizing, one server asked what color the hair was and danced around giving me my money back or anything else. I'm normally fine with problems with food, but the server here was very passive aggressive and makes me not want to go back. However, the food was incredible.
My favorite sushi spot in Portland. Ingredients are fresh, their specials are always interesting and unexpected, and the standard menu has some of the most unique rolls I've had. I think the best thing about fish & rice is that the vegetables are not a second thought but really are allowed to shine with the pairings with fish and sauces (particularly the lollipop and vegetarian rolls). The restaurant itself is cute, unpretentious, and feels very warm and welcoming.
This was my favorite sushi place here in Portland and my go to whenever I was craving it. The fish was always fresh, flavorful, and high quality and it was very reasonably priced in my opinion. My personal go to items were their bowls, especially the scallop bowl and when I wanted to treat myself I'd get the chirashi bowl. I was sad when I walked by a few weeks ago and saw that they're now closed. I'm glad I got to get many great meals from them and wish everyone there the best in the future!
I tried the salmon and tuna entrees and enjoyed them. The water situation is a little odd, but the food was delicious and the space was simple and refined.
F-*%^ Yum! Crouching tiger roll is the cats pajamas! Cute spot great for Togo & lunch time süsh:)
Special rolls and special menu are worth a try, we came two days in a row wanting to try more. Chef’s special is fun and pretty good! You can tell a lot of thoughts and care to details went into the specialty rolls. Classic sushi is good for its price, but no necessarily outstanding. Oh and the Jack Harlow looking guy that works there is pretty cute:)
We stopped here for some Sushi for Lunch. Everything we ordered looked and tasted simply amazing! Highly recommend.
Fish & Rice was the next stop on my sushi tour of PDX with my folks. Every couple of weeks we try a new sushi spot in PDX to enjoy the restaurant's take on this delectable cuisine.
I generally order take out a day in advance to take back to my folks. Service here is excellent. Ordering on the phone was a breeze and the person who took my order was very helpful in deciding what to get.
The shop is designed more like a Cafe rather than a traditional sushi restaurant. It definitely has a fun vibrant PDX vibe. Being in NW PDX parking here can be a bit of a challenge as there isn't any easily accessible street parking nearby. There is a parking lot across the street but I don't think the establishment counts as part of the business shopping mall. I parked there anyway and didn't have any problems.
Even though the place may not be a traditional Japanese sushi shop or Izakaya don't let that fool you. Their sushi is top notch. The fish was fresh and flavorful. Their rolls were also imaginative and tasty. The prices were also decent.
I would definitely recommend checking out Fish & Rice if you are ever in the NW 23rd area. It is worth stopping in if you are craving some sushi or poke!
Ate here last night. Unfortunately I also quickly came down with a bout of good poisoning.
Honestly, don’t think we will return. That was PAINFUL!
Craving some poke and happened to be close by, so we stopped by close to closing time for some takeout. Cute space, easy to find parking. Got the salmon bowl and the firecracker sauce was so good! Held up well on the drive back.
