Handel's Homemade Ice Cream, Portland OR

Handel’s for those who haven’t had it is a next level ice cream experience. Having moved to Portland from San Diego I was excited to see that Handel’s started up a location the PNW.

The ice cream is flavorful, creamy and offers amazing flavors. It’s a bit of a whole in the wall for the area but is a much needed change from Salt & Straw.

I found a large piece of broken plastic in my ice cream pint I bought yesterday 02/28/2023. This is unacceptable and unsanitary! It was large black broken piece I bit into. It was the Oree-Dough Flavor on the Sunset location in Oregon. Who knows what other ice creams may have been contaminated.

Average tasting ice cream in oversized portion sizes. I think people give it good ratings because of the huge portions. Nothing to write home about. I had hoped for better given the great reviews.

My boyfriend took me to get us some ice cream. I got the strawberry and he got the chocolate. We were craving something sweet and it was so good that I took one lick then forgot to take pictures of both of our ice creams like I usually do.

I hate to give this review because I love (d) Handel's ice cream, but I'm pretty sure I found a booger in my ice cream at this Handel's location. No, it did not fall from my own nose - it was inside the ice cream. All my visits before this were good until I felt violated.

The ice cream is good - they have a lot of flavors to offer. I wish they allowed samples so that I could tell if I wanted a whole scoop of a flavor!

Obsessed with this menu, their ice cream is creative and delicious without being too over the top. My favorites are the banana fosters, red sky at night, and blueberry cobbler. HOWEVER, beware, because they have the largest portion sizes I’ve ever seen! If you’re taking it to go then definitely get a cup because two scoops feels like a whole pint which creates quite the mess while driving. You definitely get your moneys worth here!

Greeted by smiling friendly employees (8/31/22) and quick service. Really felt the employees are a leap above the typical place like this. My coffee chocolate chip ice cream had too much chocolate flakes & they seemed to be of mediocre quality. Very original looking place and overall very happy.
