Hillside Chapel reviews
15Hillside Chapel personnel were compassionate and caring, while being efficient and helpful. After a very unexpected death they guided me through the details of arranging matters primarily through their online pages. I could take my time as I close various options. The costs were clear and no one tried to upsell anything. I highly recommend Hillside Chapel when you find yourself in this situation.
It was a pleasure using Hillside Chapel services when it was time to lay our mother to rest. David went above and beyond to help our family during this difficult time. The staff at Hillside was amazing and very helpful in assisting us with decisions. I would highly recommend Hillside Chapel for your celebration of life services.
David Bone was amazing. He was so special to help our family during this very difficult time. He also allowed my niece assist with the preparation for my mother her great grandmother. The staff and David are very caring group of people I have every met. Thanks is not enough.
I will start off by saying staff were by far extremely amazing, no-pressure, easy to work with (other than chewing gum during arrangement conference).
However, it is borderline slimy the way this funeral home (and any other) sneaks in fees or excessively overcharges for things-as they have you stuck. If you don't like it, you can go somewhere else but that new location will charge several hundred dollars to transfer the body from one funeral home to another. Even when I raised concerns about some of the charges, it was brushed aside. Allow me to highlight these concerns now:
The cremation packages include transport of the individual from hospital/care facility/etc.to the funeral home, from the funeral home to the offsite crematorium. However, it does not include transport back to the funeral home for any kind of services, etc. So the family has to travel across the metropolitan area to retrieve it, or pay $300 for the time to go pick up + $195 for the privilege of their vehicle (because cremated remains require special vehicles).
The scattering tube/urn ($225) is $50 on amazon. Exact same one.
We wanted a small reception for ~10 individuals. They offered a service to cover not only the space/time, but arrange the food. While $450 is steep, it was easy. Fine. But oh no-that is only for the food (see photo below for what that $450 covered). There is an additional $450 to cover Saturday overtime (because who doesn't do services on weekends?).
While the folks are great, I will not be using Hillside Chapel for my remaining elderly loved ones who will be passing in the coming years.
They made the worst thing that ever happened to me much less stressful and that really counts when you can barely function.
HC is also privately owned which was the main reason I initially chose them and I am glad I did.
Dominque was professional and compassionate and helpful - all the things you need when grieving. If I stay in the area I will definitely set up my pre- need with Hillside Chapel.
I can't say enough about my positive experience with Hillside chapel. They're professional, caring and go out of their way to accommodate. My brother passed away in Oregon city and I live in Vermont. They made every minute count for me while I was there. Helping me make bulletin's, and coming up with his legacy and where to order flowers was just part of it their help.
They're professional and have years under their belt. My uncle was also in their care in 1963. Great experience then and now.
Hillside Chapel handled my family’s loss with compassion. They gave us insight and proper advice on everything we needed. My experience with them is what every family needs at times like this.
Thank you Hillside Chapel.
David and his staff at Hillside Chapel were all so caring and compassionate.
The staff was so knowledgeable with all the forms that needed to be filled out. They tailored to our needs in making sure that our loved one had a beautiful burial. My family has gone thru Hillside for generations. We could not be happier with the service they provide!
The staff at Hillside Chapel were very kind and understanding and helpful at a most difficult time. We had special requests for the graveside interment and everything was taken care of. My family were grateful.
In a moment Dominique, and Tazznee were at our aid to help with my Father, they were such a comfort to have from the get go! I haven't ever been the person responsible for burying a loved one, and was nervous about what to expect with the overall process of making it happen. Dominique, and Tazznee, presented a Hillside Chapel brochure that not only laid out what they were doing, but had an extensive list built showing who & what I needed to do to prepare for his memorial service. By the time of my Dad's service, I was so blown away with how accessible, and knowledgeable they were!
Thank you Dom, and Tazz you have made me a Raving Fan with your second to none care to the detail, and warm-hearted attitude! When these occasions come about my first thought will be Hillside Chapel. Blessings!
I lost my husband on June 3rd. I didn't and still don't know which way is up but Tazzney and the all that hugged me, listened to me, let me cry on their shoulder and took such good care above and beyond of my husband i can never thank enough. They gave me time to think. They were willing to do whatever i asked. I am in awe that they can be there for all of us who are broken and give their all to help us make it through the first hardest steps. Thank you so much! You will always be in my heart and my prayers. You are amazing! Jodi Bananto
No one ever wants to have to think about making funeral arrangements for someone they love. But during this difficult time, we chose Hillside Chapel and I’m so glad we did. Even though you don’t like thinking about it - cost is a factor and Hillside Chapel was very reasonably priced, not to mention very thorough with everything.
My son and I met with the Funeral Director Tazzney Foster, she was so kind, caring and extremely helpful.
In the following months they’ll call to see how you’re doing and check to see if you need any help with anything. I’ve never had a funeral home follow up and care like they have.
I plan on making and pre-paying for my own arrangements through them.
Thank you for making a difficult time a bit easier.
Dominique is exceptional! She dealt with both of my parents deaths inside of a two month period With professionalism and personal compassion. She knows her job well and was quick to make amends to any errors or financial concerns regarding cremation packets.she is the only one I really worked with but I know that all the employees there are wonderful. I cannot speak well enough for her the staff and Hillside Chapel
We have used Hillside Chapel for many of our relatives. They are very kind and helpful through the difficult times. I will definitely be using them again. Thank you you for your kindness. I would like to give a big shout out to Tazz. Thank you for your help during the loss of my best friend and mother Gladys Blinsman ️
You’d think they could get the pall bearers names printed out correctly on the remberance cards they pass out at service. Having a service tomorrow and just found out they have wrong name for one of them, same thing they did at my husbands funeral six years ago. Also on the upcoming services on the website messed up on the announcement, it’s a husband and wife and they have her as a he and wrong home town listed. For as expensive as funerals are you’d think they could get it correct, very sad!
