In 2018, my wife and I had a complicated tax situation involving 3 states when we were referred to Houck Evarts. Steve Rooke was great to work with and helped us wade through all the complexities. Flash forward a few years later to 2022, and one of those states incorrectly tried claiming we still owed taxes and sent us a notice. We reached out to Steve right away and he helped us prepare a response and that state ultimately withdrew the notice. Taxes can be intimidating, especially when you get an unexpected bill, but Steve and the Houck Evarts team stuck by us. Highly recommend this firm to anyone.

They have lost touch with the customer experience. A competent generalist tax service provider, at a premium price, but nothing exceptional in my experience. After several years as their client I have moved on to another firm providing the same services (and more) at lower cost. If you choose to hire them, recommend staying on top of them about deadlines/deliverables, having them invoice you frequently and in detail, requiring them to get your approval in advance on any potentially expensive work they consider to be outside the scope of what you are already paying them for, not letting them talk themselves up too much (or talk down to you), and augmenting them with subject-matter specialists for any work that is highly complex and outside the scope of general-purpose tax return prep.

As a business owner, I need accurate returns completed, but I also need expert tax advice and planning. I am extremely impressed with their attention to detail, planning advice, and execution of returns. Worth every reasonably penny. Highly recommend.

Barbara always takes AMAZING care of us for business and personal taxes. She takes the time to explain everything we need to know in terms we can actually understand and there is no end to her knowledge and expertise. If I could give her 10 stars I would.

*Updated for 2020 - Well, nothing in 2020 went as the world expected. And yet, Zoe and the Houck Evarts Team managed to over deliver AGAIN. After reviewing our 2019 documents, Houck Evarts identified a reporting error from my employer that could have cost me thousands. The day after we filed, my employer issued a correction - But Houck Evarts already had calculated for the error and we didn't have to do any additional paperwork. Six Stars ******!
