Kate's Ice Cream, Portland OR

I’ve worked here for a couple months now and it really feels like family. My coworkers always let me know of my mistakes right after or before my shift is over. Working shifts with Kate has been really exciting as I’ve just gotten to learn more about her and she lets me know what I can do better on. I never realized just how many people can’t have dairy and gluten. The people that come in that realize they can try all the flavors and that they’re all vegan they are extremely happy. It’s been really fun working here and my favorite part is making the waffle cones!

My husband and I came for international ice cream for breakfast day and it did not disappoint! The ice cream is vegan but absolutely does not have that typical almost powdery vegan ice cream texture. I truly did not feel or taste a difference from regular ice cream! They had drip coffee and affogatos - only had the coffee but it was great coffee - the staff is friendly, the owner walked around chatting with the customers which was so nice and gave us that small town everyone knows each other vibe. Great place to take your kids for a treat or to go on a date and it's in a great location. Highly recommend!

My daughter and I both have food intolerances and we’re beyond excited to try Kate’s Ice Cream. She had her very first waffle cone and loved it. Both our ice cream flavors were amazing. I had salted peanut brittle and she had rocky road - also for the first time. Love that this place is not only safe but delicious

My family and I really enjoy coming to this ice cream shop. We look forward to their special monthly flavors, as well as their permanent flavors.

Kate's not only serves amazing vegan and gluten free products, but the shop is so cute and a fun place to spend with your friends and family. They offer a variety of flavor options, including seasonal ones that rotate frequently. The employees always greet each customer with a smile and offer assistance if needed. I highly recommend supporting this company.

After a few tries, I’m definitely a fan. Has never disappointed. Most recently ordered ice cream sandwiches for delivery and they were delicious- highly recommend. The delivery bag even had a kind note with my name on it- nice touch. It’s clear customer service is a priority for this business. I’ve taken my young sons in a couple of times and staff are friendly & patient. It’s spendy but consistent with other premium or popular ice cream shops in the area. The fact that it’s plant-based and delicious makes it the winner over the rest.

The ice cream was fine. But I paid with a credit card and now I'm getting emails from them. I didn't sign up for emails. I didn't agree to emails. I agreed to icecream.

Okay I would usually say no gluten no flavor but this place is ridiculously good, I hate coconut but this place makes the best ice cream and is able to hide the coconut even in the chocolate and as for the waffle cones and bowls thats a plus the best cookie cones ever.this place is better than that big conglomerate B & R the service is better the little shop is clean and inviting my only complaint is all the flavors are so good I can't decide I have no favorite when it comes to Kate's hint get a smaller ice cream scoop and make a sampler bowl with mini scoops of maybe 8 flavors

I was wandering down Mississippi Ave and this place caught my eye because I saw the gluten free/vegan sign and I've been on the lookout for a good sweet spot. After sampling (a sure way to lure you in) the proprietor and I struck up a fine conversation and I realized this was in fact the owner doing the serving. That's a rarity these days and I was impressed with the whole operation. It's made from scratch in the same building and dished out by the very owner which = awesome. The ice cream itself is indeed fantastic and one could easily confuse it with its dairy made original. It did not stand a chance and was devoured in minutes. Thats all to say this place rocks and you should stop reading this and go grab a scoop. Thank you Kate!

The only ice cream parlor I know that is 100% vegan and GF.
Wish they'd open up locations in Seattle.

The best ice cream I've had in quite some time. We stuck around and ate there, because:
a) It was too good to wait
b) The space was inviting and just good vibes

Don't sleep on the cookie monster flavor!

Kate's is the spot. They have amazing flavors and premade frozen desserts that I always tend to take home after having my fresh cup or ice cream sandwich. They are gluten and dairy free. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. This is the spot for those who are looking for unique flavors and healthy sweet treats for after dinner on Mississippi. Treat yourself!
