Little Axe Records reviews
12One of the best record stores in Portland and one of my favorites always my go to record store.
I love love love this store! I think I’ve posted a review before but since googy is promoting me again, I’m happy to share my experience. Everyone behind the counter is very kind and knowledgeable and they have a great selection of titles for all tastes. I’ve checked many items off my bucket list here.
Like any good record store, you have to dig a bit to find the gems. But when you do.they are worth the dig! Great prices, broad selection.
Cute little shop with a big variety. It’s an especially good place to find interesting releases from international markets, but also has a good selection of rock, jazz, etc that you’d expect to find in any other Portland record shop. Prices were also very fair, with some interesting finds in good condition for around $3.
It was OK, not what I would expect from a 4.9 star rated store. It was cramped inside, which was ok but the atmosphere was not welcoming for someone w/ sensory or social issues at all. I was very anxious not long after getting inside due to the loud music and tight spaces, and the person at the register wasn't much help either. While they were respectful and not outright rude, they didn't seem too interested in helping me find records or give advice on artists. I've been to a few other shops and the people are always very talkative about music, especially my favorite local place, however this one not so much. I would give two stars, but I found a $200 plus record for $40 so that's kinda cool I guess. They also don't grade records, and when I asked about the grade of a record I wanted to buy the person said I was welcome to try it out at the listen station.
A great used record shop BUT, see warning below, This could be the best used record shop in town. Their recent arrivals are unrivaled. So you can go there knowing it's amazing. Here come the "but".
But.buyer beware. It's easy to check the condition of records there, but take my word for it: SMELL THE RECORD AND THE SLEEVE BEFORE YOU BUY. I have bought a couple of records that I thought were amazing, then when I got home I realized they stank like moldy awfulness. Smell before you buy, because these guys WILL NOT warn you of MOLD.
Because of moldy smelling records, I have deducted two stars for my waste of money and time. I know small businesses are struggling these days, but I think honesty should be the best policy. I have to wear a mask indoors and cannot easily smell foul record sleeves. If you are careful, this is a very good store and you'll find some gems.
For a smaller store this place has all of the goods! Definitely a much check out for anyone interested in good tunes!
Some of the most reasonable prices I encountered in Portland record shops. A new favorite and well worth a visit. Check the employee curated bins near the counter for the good stuff.
I always find something cool here. This week it was a reissue of a Cindytalk LP that I've been looking for. So, needless to say, they carry a lot of interesting stuff, and it changes often.
Cute little shop, was surprised to find a bunch of goodies. Has a big selection of other genres instead of only rock. Really fair prices too.
Can't disclose details for reasons that will become apparent, but I've arranged the sale of a record I purchased at this establishment for a sum amounting to less than ten dollars, to a buyer in the middle east for an amount somewhre in the 7 figures. I will never work another day in my life, couldn't recommend the store more.
Little Axe is such a great little record store. Inviting space and friendly staff. Great used record selection across all genres. Love these guys.
