Fabulous hotel with oodles of character and charm, staffed by incredible people (kudos to Brennan and the executive chef at Zeus Cafe on the ground level and an indelible fixture of the hotel.)
I stayed in the "China Cat" room and it was immaculate, funky and fun!
Wish I could've stayed much longer than one paltry night, but if I'm ever back that way, it's THE hotel I would not hesitate to rest my head at again.

I will tell you something that online travel agents do not want you to know about. When reserving stays use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ. ᴄᴏᴍ They've got the best deals on resorts! Way better than using expedia, tripadvisor, hotwire. Take my word for it!

Looked fun and funky, but the actual experience was unpleasant. The room was so small we could barely navigate around the bed, and noise between rooms was significant. We learned our lesson and won't come back, but what motivated me to take the time to leave a review was that today I found that the charge on my credit card is for $50 above what they listed as the charge on my reciept, and I'm now I have to contact them to figure out why (we didn't damage or take anything from the room).

Stay anywhere else in Portland.

Not our favorite hotel in the chain, but within walking distance of oh, so many fun places. If you're a die-hard McMenamins fan, it's a "must stay. "

Great soaking pool. Soft, comfy beds. Didn't make it to music unfortunately. Plenty of othervthings to do. Located in the heart of glorious Portland.

Wife and I and friends before stayed here several times for just a get away, or a concert. The People who work here are AWESOME.
The soaking pool is like a private oasis. Grab a RUBY beer! Stay multiple days for a discount!
Great prices.

This was such an incredible place to stay! I had my kiddo with me and the staff was not only super accommodating but they were so sweet to him! The soaking pool is pure heaven, multiple bars, super cozy sweet little rooms! We had a blast and will be back- im seriously on the Mcmenamins bandwagon and totally plan to check them all out! Thank u guys

Very friendly staff. The soaking pool is absolutely beautiful and so warm!
I didn’t love the location as there are homeless people and loud traffic right outside the building.
Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I found the parking situation to be really painful — they recommend parking in a parking garage about a couple blocks away and don’t offer reimbursement. I’d be happier if parking was included with the hotel stay or reimbursed.
Otherwise, a nice getaway in the heart of Portland!

Had a superb visit at this establishment. The staff is outstanding. Each room has it's own wonderful charm. The underground bar is not to be missed and the underground soaking pool will strip your cares away.

We went here to have dinner and get our passport stamps. Had food at the Zues Cafe. Host said the difference between the Cafe and Ringlers pub was the Cafe is more "Fancy". So we hoped the food would be better. The food was all bland. Had the Brussel sprouts, bland and watery. Had the crystal burger, was just an average burger. Had the pizza, had no sauce and was flavorless. The furikake tots were flavorless as well. We've been to a lot of mcmenamins and for taste, this was the worst one. Definitely will not come to this Cafe again.
Asked for our stamps and the event stamp and our waiter didn't even know if his boss had got the stamp for the event. Wasn't sure what event we were talking about at first. (Halfway to St. Patrick's day)
If we didn't see the event on the website, you'd have no idea there was an event going on at all. Nothing was really different. Walked over to the Ringlers pub for a stamp, wish we ate there instead. Place looked a lot better. Environment seemed friendlier.

Overall we had a great time at The Crystal, we enjoyed the gothic like décor. The only downfall was that I requested a federal government discount which is only applicable if you stay 3 or more days, which we did but the man in the front still did not apply it.

I love Mcmenamins and I always have a good time. This time though I was a bit disappointed. I was unaware that there was no parking available at the hotel. This made everything when we checked in more stressful. The bartender in the Cafe was extremely rude to us. Not just once but multiple times throughout the day and night.

Be kind to staff! They're doing an amazing job despite the shortage. Thank you Zeus Cafe staff & Crystal Hotel staff! Y'all made it an amazing stay!

Pros: Eclectic atmosphere, convenient location; Cons: Entitled, lazy staff, and the fact that you have to “upgrade” for a private bathroom during a pandemic. Ridiculous.

So much fun at the Crystal Hotel, what a great hidden Gem in the middle of downtown Portland. Clean rooms, great eclectic atmosphere and the staff are friendly.

Not for the snooty or the faint of heart, what with the bathrooms down the hall and all, but if you’re a fan of Oregon quirky at it’s most curious, you’ll fit right in.
