Mickey Hot Springs reviews
7Excellent sights. Hissing vents, bubbling water. Not for dipping in, water is near boiling
We were being adventurous and tried to drive across the playa, through the bushes to find a way here. Good thing we did that because the access from the main road was blocked. This place is amazing. One run-off pool is cold enough to the touch but we didn't dare soak in, because we weren't sure if it was safe. Steam was coming out of the vents, and water bubbles in a few pools indicating that it's scalding hot. Nobody was around, possibly because it's hard to get here. The trail leading here is narrow and rough, but it's worth it.
WARNING:
Unfortunately the soaking pool has gotten infested with red spider mites in the past year. As soon as I got in a flotilla of about 100 of them started closing in. I got out and was still itchy for hours. Relaxed soaking is now inpossible.
As for the rest? I dont know how people can compare this to Yellowstone. If you’ve been to Yellowstone, a couple bubbling pools and columns of steam will be utterly unimpressive to you. One wonders if its worth the time and effort to get all the way out here…
Very different part of Oregon. Out of the way but worth it to see. Not very big, but very cool geothermal activity. As others have said, it's Oregons version of Yellowstone.all packed within about a half acre.
Little hard to get to with low ground be clearance to car and for the most part, the pools are too hot to trot, water was nearly boiling in some places and steam vents made me very wary. I wore boots around just in case I stepped on a soft spot. Very cool if you go expecting not to soak in the pools; go to Alvord with the concrete pools and temperature management, well worth the $20.
I finally found Mickey hot springs. But it's to hot to sit in. There are warning signs that tell you to be careful and to keep pets on leash that the springs can cause scalding an death! I stopped for the night and camped the wind blew like a jet engine, then perfectly calm, then jet engine again. Not much sleep. You won't find a crowd here.
