Mims Historic House reviews
6Office of the NAACP, cool history. The NAACP branch here has an Executive Board that is very sketch. And its not a super exciting visit. There really isn't anything to see. It's an old weird house. It's half rented out to tenants and half to the sketch NAACP branch. Would change review if the NAACP board (2022) weren't so sketch.
Call ahead to make arrangements for a tour. Tours are dependent on current pandemic restrictions, available staff and may be on hold until further notice.
The staff is friendly, nice and inviting. The house and property are gorgeous. I'm so happy it has been preserved and put to good use.
This house is the location of the NAACP and offers many services to the underprivileged and to people of color in the Eugene area. There is a food bank which also provides toiletries and personal care items as well as frozen meat and frozen organic vegies grown at local farms. As well, volunteers were set up under a tent outside in the courtyard today to administer free covid vax's. Limited parking however. Call ahead to make a personal appointment for the pantry, its open daily M-F.
Very interesting history. Eye opener about the early history of Eugene and history after WWII and Mims struggles during that period of American history.
Grateful for the history and the resources provided by NAACP which has an office inside.
