Mugen Noodle reviews
14We really like the ramen, but good luck finding when they are open! They do not post or update at all and the last few times we've stopped by during their normal open hours they have been closed.
Not your usual ramen house. Couldn't just grab my usual tonkotsu ramen and am glad that was the case. Ended up ordering the black garlic chintan. It was bursting with flavor. The noodles were perfect also. Tried both lightly spiced and medium, preferring the lightly spiced but both were excellent. The pot stickers were ok. Seemed deep fried instead of pan fried. The filling was mildly flavorful but not special. Worth the trip for the ramen alone. The also have limited off street parking.
Came in 15 min after opening and every table was taken or reserved. So come early or wait. Everything was delicious. Extra spicy will give some solid heat by the end if you're into that, although it does cost a dollar to add the extra spice.
It's a cute, cozy, clean place. The ramen was pretty good. We'd come back again if we were in the area.
Some thoughts:
It took them forever to take our order, and then the food took over 30 mins to arrive. When it came, it wasn't even ours. Turns out it belonged to the table next to us, who ordered the same thing as us but without spice, and they came in after us.
The place was freezing. They had like a back door open or something. It was pretty uncomfortable.
The chili wonton wasn't what I expected. There was no chili flavor to it. It was like a steamed gyoza with peanuts and soy sauce. I had immediate regrets when I realized I was paying $10 for it.
Fantastic ramen! This is such a cool spot in Hood River. I suspect you really can't go wrong in what you order, personally I got the black garlic with tofu and it was delicious. Look at their cute tea mug! Loved this find.
Thanks to the crab rangoon Mugen is one of our go to spots! I’ve had many of the ramens (black garlic!) but my go to is the chicken katsu. Its even better when I add curry to it.
So I was not very impressed mostly due to cost versus portion…if you are going to charge 18$ for a cup of noodles it should be a full cup.
I had the crab ragoon and the rice with curry and chicken. I didn't find any of these plates to be good, they were only ok. Very expensive in my opinion
Seriously good ramen, made well with good options for additions if you wanted to add something on but honestly they make it the way it's supposed to be. I ventured and got the duck ramen. Never heard of such a thing but glad I did. I would recommend and probably get it again.
This place is delightful! The crab puffs are so good. Everything we had was amazing. Great atmosphere. I dont think you can go wrong with any menu item. The family run place is my new favorite.
Delicious plates! Got the black garlic ramen and the spicy shrimp ramen and they were both amazing. And the ambiance was on point after a long day of hiking. Would definitely recommend!
Amazing place. Service was prompt. Thai tea was yummy. The ramen was delicious, the pork was the absolute best part. We got the pot stickers and takoyaki and they were awesome. The only downside is it’s a bit pricy when you add on and get apps.
Really fantastic gluten-free options. I get the back garlic soup and ask for it gluten-free (rice noodles and no egg). It's definitely my favorite place to go out to eat in Hood River as a celiac.
This is, in my opinion, the best Ramen place in town. The staff is always friendly and on top of things. And the food is so delicious. The Black Garlic is my favorite. It's a great place for take-out if you're in a rush. Food is made fresh but also quickly. The atmosphere is very relaxed, making dining in very enjoyable.
Would highly recommend if you're in the area stopping by for some delicious food.
