Nana's Irish Pub reviews
24This place was fabulous! The spicy chicken tender appetizer was surprisingly sweet but absolutely delicious! The Reuben was different and delectable. Service was top notch.
Great food and atmosphere. Had the opportunity to listen to an entitled “Karen” belittle the waitress over the take out prices for several minutes at the bar. She said she would post a horrible review. “Karen”: I was embarrassed for you and I feel empathy towards your partner. You did not go unnoticed.
I just have to say that the fish part of the fish and chips was just sad. For an Irish restaurant by the beach I may even go so far as to say inexcusable. Especially for the price. That's the only thing I've tried there that wasn't good though.
Food was amazing, the people were sweet! They were quite busy, but it's good to see! I highly recommend if you like your carbs:)
Definitely going to return next time I'm in the area!
What was ordered: Scotch eggs, Irish sausage, and the Dublin burger.
Food was AMAZING but the service was absolutely TERRIBLE. Best corned beef ever! Long wait at 3pm and we waited at our table for 25 minutes with no one acknowledging us before we asked for water and menus. But great food and atmosphere.
Looked for a pub to try some beer and food food and came across this gem. The location and atmosphere are great as near the beach and a dual bar with ample seating.
We were greated and seated pretty quickly and the staff was quite attentive.
We started off with some Irish Soda bread. Some of us had cups of clam chowder which was different than normal chowder as it had some veggies like corn and was a bit thinner making it seem like a stew BUT was great.
We also tried Scotch Eggs which were delicious, especially with the grain mustard.
For the entree my wife and I split the cottage pie with cheese. The seasoning was great, no salt or anything needed. My mother in law and brother in law had the Sheppard's pie which they identified was as good as our cottage pie.
My daughter branched out and tried the meatloaf which came with mashed potatoes, peas, and soda bread. She ate most of the meatloaf and mashed potatoes, all the peas but wasn't a fan of the soda bread (not everyone likes carraway seed).
To finish it off we had a banoffee pie which we shared across the table which was loved by all. A great combination of Bananas and Toffee, a must try if you like banana.
Would come back here anytime.
The atmosphere and service are both top notch, and they can make a decent cocktail. I've eaten a lot of different food from their menu and the only thing I'm a huge fan of is the Sheppard's pie. The baked brie (spelling?) is worth ordering too!
Update: the other evening my younger brother and I decided we wanted a drink around 8pm. We walked from the bay front and he had to use the bathroom, so I ordered 2 Irish car bombs. The bar tender gave me the most uncalled for and rude look I've ever been given and demanded "where'd the other guy go? " I told her he was using the restroom and she replied "well, I'll make your drink but not his until he shows his id. "
I'm not sure what was going on but I can't convey her attitude appropriately without swearing. I asked if she could just make both and serve him when he got back with his ID, which she of course snottily, simply replied "No". Then the couple sitting at the bar advised that "laws, law. ", which she agreed. I replied "Ok. " (Exactly, "ok" and not another word, sound, or movement) And she let me know that if I was going to be like that she could make me zero.
At that point my brother returned from the restroom and we departed. It's a shame because my brother really likes their hot chicken strips, and we occasionally pick a random place and walk for a drink, but not Nina's Irish Pub anymore.
We eat here on november 11th. Very disappointed it has been a while since we have driven up to newport and we usually eat here. Well this time i felt robbed first the two hot toddies that we ordered where so weak that it seemed like sweetened hot water with lemon and clove next came the food fish and chips was fine but the rest was not food. I ordered the sausage roll with mashed potato the saudage rolls came out hard and way over cooked almost burnt the mashed potato very watery, a burger that was ordered medium rare was well done and dry the cod with cheese sauce well not good and tiny portion. Our waiter was good but she new our plates where not good as she kept looking over but never ask if we where ok. We had intended to stay for desert and another beverage but we left. We wont be in a rush to come back
I always go for the vegetarian curry pot pie and Irish soda bread. I never order anything else but drinks. They serve Guinness on tap and other Irish specialties. It's the perfect bar if you love Irish food and drinks. It's very close to the beach too.
Good food, good atmosphere. A nice pub setting with fantastic stick-to-your-ribs hearty food that left us satisfied. The clam chowder was a little thin, a bit closer to creamy clam soup than chowder, but tastes great! The soda bread is delicious and the chicken pot pie was beautifully cooked. The shepherd's pie was well received as was the kid's portion of the meatloaf. The scotch eggs were perfectly prepared and quite flavorful!
My burger was blatantly overcooked and the service was painfully slow. The waitress was sweet but she was the only one so we waited forever for everything. Don't think we'll be eating here again.
Thank you, Nathan. Superb and attentive service. Serves a delicious black and tan! Pot pies are great! But I have to order meat loaf, next visit! It looked great!
This place is amazing! I know it's crowded, there's a reason. Our bar tender tonight (our anniversary) made everything worth the wait. She blew me away. $20 tip and I should have done more.
I had my dog it was raining, I wanted to place an order to go & my phone was dead. I waited quite a while on the patio & finally asked someone going in to let them know I was outside. They were busy but came right out & took my order. I will stand in rain, sleet or snow for any of their food! The bangers & mash were out of this world so was the traditional bread pudding. I only make it down here from Idaho once a year & always plan a way to swing in here. This time I drove a 100 miles or so out of my way & then stood in the rain. I love this place!
Come here for lunch from time to time. Cozy atmosphere, nice and attentive staff, good drinks, and delicious food. I'm pretty much hooked on the shepherd's pie, but everything I've seen people eating looks delicious!
This was my first time eating here and I enjoyed it a lot. Everything we got tasted great and the service waa spectacular. I look forward to eating here again.
My husband and I spent our anniversary weekend in Newport. We looked around for more local places to eat and tried out Nana's. We had reservations for dinner elsewhere that evening so we just went for some appetizers and dessert to share. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The menu has plenty of delicious offerings and portion sizes are generous. We had Scotch Eggs and the Brie, crackers and apples plate. Both were so AMAZING! Then we ended it with sharing the Banoffee.which was delightful! We will definitely be back when in the area to try out different menu options and to experience the friendly staff. Thank you guys!
I'd give it five starts, except I'm a vegetarian and the options were very limited. The food we did eat was delicious. The ambiance is fantastic, the waitstaff were helpful, the location is convenient. It is crowded and lively, so I wouldn't go here if you're just looking for a quiet date. I'll definitely go back.
The food was good, but the service is not. On both occasions, the servers ignored us or messed up our orders. The reuben and pot pie were both excellent. The tuna melt is delicious.
Hands down one of my most favorite places to go to in Newport hands down. Awesome pub atmosphere and great for a date, with a family or a single night out. Delicious food, awesome staff and fantastic selection. It's a must eat place for me in Newport no matter what p.s. The scotch eggs, Galway cod au gratin and colcannon soup are to die for!
