Neskowin Ghost Forest reviews
19Winter wonderland. Seafood skittering upland like melting snowballs in the a 35 knots wind with gusts up to 45 knots. Proposal rock is the perfect setting for a beach wedding. Winter tides and waves pound the beach day and night with thunderous claps and booms as waves crash the natural breakers and shore rocks, reinforcing the awesome power of nature.
If it's not timed just right you won't be able to see them.going at low tide won't be enough sometimes they're still buried in sand! And you have to cross a freshwater stream in order to get to the south side unless you're staying at the resort. Sunset was still beautiful and the beach fun to explore nonetheless.
You have to go at low tide or you can't cross the creek to see the ghost forest up close and many of them are under water. The ghosts are opposite from the parking and beach entry. There are bathrooms in the parking area and a cute little gourmet gift shop.
Lots of sand, no tree stumps, we did like the needles eye at the south of personal rock. Sad, there was a dead sea lion.
Beautiful! The high was too high to see much of the tree stumps on the shore, but regardless, it was worth the drive. I plan to go back at low tide.
This is all that is left of the Forest. Four barnacle covered stumps. So sad, the forest is gone.
What a gorgeous place! We didn’t catch it when the tide was fully out but we were able to see some of the ghost forest stumps. I would certainly come back!
Very busy.there was the strange seafoam. But the town is so quaint, jad some ice cream and took a walk on tje beach
Such a fun and unique stop! Definitely go in the morning while it’s still misty and less crowded.
There is not really any public beach access or at least it's hidden on purpose to keep the area private. I would say this is a town full of dragons. Avoid it if possible.
This site is amazing. From someone who has grown up at this beach, here are some tips:
1) Too see the petrified forest, you must cross the river that runs across the beach. At high tide the river is fat, but at low tide, it’s not bad.
2) The trees are only visible at low tide
3) This year (2023) the sandbar is high, and has buried a good portion of the forest. The only visible trees are on the far south side of the beach, but you can typically see them all the way from the Proposal Rock Island to the south cliffs. The beach changes every year so maybe next year, they will be uncovered again.
There weren’t as many stumps visible in August 2023, but the sand shifts and I suspect the larger forest we’ve seen in the past was buried at this time. But it’s still very cool at low tide, and among the rocks you can see sea anemones, mussels, different types of barnacles, limpits, snails, and crab. If you’re lucky, you might see a starfish sticking to the side of a rock.
Amazing beach and river setting, combined with a unique feature called Proposal Rock. Be prepared to take lots of great photos. And then there's the Ghost Forest itself.such an interesting history in this magical place!
Don't worry about the postings about argh gated community. Time your visit to park at the Neskowin Trading Company lot about an hour before low tide. If it's open, get yourself a latte and a treat to enjoy at the beach. Walk through a bit of residential area (NOT gated) to access the beach, pass Proposal Rock, ford the little creek, look for stumps. They are NOT towering or enormously impressive, but when you think about what they are, how long they've been there, and how amazingly tenacious the sea life clinging to them is.they are cool.
Beautiful beach and less traveled. Love the rocks, sandy Beach, and fresh waters stream running through it. This beach seems to get socked in with overcast, in the evening, for a spell. Beautiful location. Oregon Coast is the most beautiful place.
The sand has buried much of the forest, but it is still a magical place. The beach is very peaceful, accessible from the path by the bridge at Proposal Rock Inn. Private roads block closer access (why 4 stars only). Be prepared to cross a small creek on the beach. It's there always. Beach is not easy for disabled access, soft sand crossing.
Certainly worth a visit, we did not catch it when the tide was low enough. Yet, it was still awesome to see and the beach with Proposal Rock were beautiful. The beach is vast and leave plenty of areas wide open. It's a great visit and if you plan the low tides better you can get some much better views!
I guess ghost forest is an accurate term since you definitely don’t see any forest or where a forest might have been. And we went at low tide when it is recommended to go. Would not go at any other time unless you are ok with swimming across a river to get to it.
Great place if you have children, lots of space to relax and set up your stuff to stay all day long. It was very warm when I went a few days ago, had a great time! Completely recommend for families!
