Old Zen Wine Bar reviews
14Just moved to the west side of Salem and tried out this wine bar. I can’t recommend this place enough. It goes without saying, the wine is fantastic - all Oregon wines! The ambience is fantastic, perfect for a multitude of occasions. We’ll definitely be back:)
This place is a hidden gem in Salem. As new locals to the area we were exploring new places. Great cozy atmosphere and service. Not to mention the only wine bar in Salem! They also have live music and comedians. Definitely worth checking out!
There were four of us, three of us ordered Croft Vineyards (the Featured Winery) flight which we enjoyed with the snacks we brought in. Fourth person was in the mood for a beer, had two, liked both. Really liked Croft's Pinot Gris so bought a bottle to take home. Sunday afternoon music was good and owner very friendly. Looking forward to going back.
Highly recommend. Fantastic owner. Enjoyable environment. Delicious wine. As a visitor, it was a great place to taste different wines.
Great wine bar! If we were locals this would be our go to! Loved the atmosphere and wine selection!
This place has a ton of potential, but kinda missed the mark with their current model. Its a nice setting with a decent offering of local wines. The problem comes with the pricing. My suspicion is since he is offering a glass pour of any bottle on the list, he has to keep his prices very high to cover the cost of a bottle incase it doesn't sell another glass before going bad. Some glass pours exceed $30 with many being over $15. As a local wine expert it is though to justify paying $24 for a glass of wine that I know the bottle only costs in the 30s. The specials make it a bit more reasonable but its still quite high. I think it would be better to offer glass pours of rotating featured wine each month at a more reasonable price instead of every wine every day at higher prices. The limited glass options would also decrease the chances of only one glass being poured out of a bottle before it goes bad. I do love the rotating tasting flights though. If prices were more reasonable on glass pours I would regular this place.
We are from out of town, we were looking for a nice place to have a wine down glass of wine. Stumbled upon this hidden jewel. The owner was very nice and we enjoyed conversing with him. Each time we are in town we will definitely make it a place to visit.
Just a fantastic addition to the neighborhood.we come here often.every wine we have had has been great.the flights are always a fun way to try 4 at a time.and the owner is a wonderful human in so many ways.
Love, love, love this place. The atmosphere is cozy, inviting and chill. It's the perfect setting to gather with your friends. There are many cozy chairs surrounding low tables for hanging out, or if you want to play a game or two, there are high tables with lots of seating. You can bring in your own food or select a charcuterie plate for a nominal fee.
The BEST thing about this place, however, is the incredible selection of wine that is available along a range of prices from low to high. Are you looking for a sophisticated, expensive wine, they've got it. It you are looking for something more casual and less expensive, they've got you covered. They even have an assortment of wines on tap. For those who don't care for wine, there are some great beer choices to choose from.
Be sure to check out all the wine specials and events they have going on as well.
What a neat place! So beautiful and comfy. Great wine. The owners are FABULOUS! SO happy they are here. Go support them.
I would give this a zero but the young winetender felt for us. They had a winery special that day for a tasting of 4 horrendous wines my wife was offended by. Whomever curated those for customers should be punished. I chose a 4 wine sampler from their wines on tap. Only one was palatable…a Tempranillo from Umpqua AVA. Nothing worth drinking from traditional Willamette region. So disappointing when just a good glass of wine would have made the day better.
Re: To owner. I was under the impression that my wife had settled the bill. She was under the assumption that I had done it. My sincere apologies. I will Venmo you the $20 if that amount is precious to you. It was not our intention to steal.an honestly comp'd glass of good wine for such an experience would have been kind. It was a tragic day in our lives for family reasons and the bad experience made it worse. A lovely glass of wine would have made it immeasurably better.
Re: Owner - I mailed you $20 for the tasters of mostly undrinkable wines that we left mostly undrunk. Included is a $5 tip for the winetender that cared. Shame on you if you do not give him his tip.
Absolutely worth a visit! Very nice atmosphere, a great variety of Oregon wines, and great service. We will be back soon!
Cute place, amazing staff, and lots of varieties of local Pinots! Would definitely recommend
