Pets on Broadway, Portland OR

I used to really love coming here but the last few visits have left me extremely uncomfortable. My roommate and i were about to walk in (it was around 7: 30ish, they close at 8) and we were stopped at the door. We were asked if we were both shopping for pets. We explained that we lived together and have two cats at home. The guy still asked us if both cats belong to just one of us or both of us. I tried to explain that they were originally my cats but now they are both of ours and we would like to shop together to make decisions on their food. The guy told us only one of us was allowed to come in and the other person had to wait in our car. We didn’t have a car and my roommate is female and gets anxiety waiting outside in the dark at night (outside their store is not lit well). I told them that we would really like to shop together since we share the expensive and decisions on them now. He still said no.

I really didn’t understand why. I don’t think its really polite to keep questioning your customers after they already explained why they want to come in. No customer should have explain that. It made us both feel really weird and unwelcome.

I get it they are trying to limit store capacity, but once i got in there by myself, there were only two other people in the store who appeared to be a couple and they were shopping together. So why were we questioned at the door and one of us denied entry and that couple in the store wasn’t? I have also been in since and have seen couples of people shopping together as well. I don’t know why they treated us differently.

Also, no one ever says hi to you when you come or offers to help. I have been going here for about a year and no associate has ever spoken to me besides questioning me outside to why i’m here and when checking me out. I hate to say it but this store kind of carries the vibe of you have to privilege to shop here and look a certain way in order to be treated right. I really wish they would improve on that.

I shopped here for the first time recently as I now travel in closer proximity to this shop than the one I've been using.the service was friendly enough.but I was disappointed that my corn snake refused all 3 of the frozen rats I purchased there.maybe he's being picky? (maybe it's like the difference between Burger King and Burgerville?) Either way, I felt like my purchase was a waste of time and money as I've never had my snake refuse 3 feedings in a row.

Really had a great time at Pets on Broadway. Very knowledgeable staff on fish and the store had a wide selection of neat animal toys. Our furries are enjoying them. We will buy all of our pets needs here assuming they will have what we need!

Best pet store in the state by far. Cares about pets & wide selection. Amazing prices, you'd be surprised it's not a chain. Can't be beat.

My go to pet store. I started going here when I lived in the area, now I go back to it after I have moved out of the neighborhood! They have a great selection for all types of pets. Dogs, cats, rodents, birds, reptiles, fish. You name it! They can order things for you and have them delivered to the store if they are not in stock.

Great, knowledgable staff. Super friendly and helpful. Great selection of small animal products. We have rabbits and they even sell bulk rabbit food along with bulk food for other pets. I dont have fish, but I always look at their sizable selection everytime I go here. Although not pet related, they also have a well curated, if small, houseplant selection. Highly recommend. 10/10!

Started going to Broadway when my neighborhood pet store closed. Very friendly and helpful. Love that I can just give my phone number for rewards benefits. This is my new go-to pet store.

I come here mostly for feeder rats. The staff is really helpful and nice, and it's hard to find feeder rats anywhere else, but the prices are significantly more than what my old place charged before they stopped selling them.

Very good animal supplies! Went a coupleweeks ago.good variety and clean store.free coffee, too, so i always shop there for my cat.only bad thing was that it was hard to get employees in fish to help with quesions and i felt ignored when all they did was trash talk somone named Jeremy for a long time! Maybe work on employees being more availably and nicer but as long as my question i answered i will give 5 stars!

Awesome knowledgeable staff who obviously love what they do. Just a bit pricey. Maybe not for the pet parent on a tight budget but judge for yourself. Bring your fur baby shopping too!

This place is incredible! I am super impressed by the variety of high quality foods they have here, for all species. The store is sectioned out well so all the critters have their dedicated space. Everything is well kept and organized and it's easy to move around. The staff is friendly and helpful. You can also order online and pick up in store, which is awesome!

Miss living so close to this shop. Have yet to find another shop so obsessed with animals of all kinds.

Great variety of pet supplies. The aquatic section is very good for a store that doesn't specialize in fish only. The girl that I have dealt with in aquatics is very knowledgeable which you don't run into at the big chain stores.

I've been coming here for years and am never going to stop. Staff is helpful and incredibly knowledgeable for carrying such a range of pets and supplies.

You’d be hard pressed to actually find an employee who wants to try to help you or make you feel even halfway that they’re glad you’re a customer. No customer service or acknowledgement from employees during the 15 minutes I was there.

This is a really good pet store. They support the adoption programs from local animal shelters. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. They even sell many local products, including pet food and treats. It is definitely worth a visit.

It's entirely possible that I love this store almost as much as my dogs do.most of the employees simply couldn't be any nicer & the selection they carry is top notch! LOVE their late hours too! Wish more stores offered that! It's so, so convenient & makes things so much easier for people like me in so many ways!

What an incredible staff. I had an issue trying to find specific cat food and every time I called they were so kind! They helped me find a substitute, but they helped me research where I could find it. Just because of how nice they were, they’ve made a new loyal customer. The store is a little messy and not as organized as it could be, but, they have a wide selection. If you prefer friendly and superior service, definitely come here.

Great help selecting new pets and getting set up with supplies! They came highly recommended to me and I would recommend them to others just as highly.

This was a beautiful place to visit. The store was clean and the animals were well cared for and happy and content. The aquariums were set up with creativity and great care. The dim aquatic area was so relaxing and calm. I stayed there at least half an hour surroinded by Water. Also the friendly shop guy was patient and informative. Found this Oasis right when I needed it.
