Phagan’s Beauty College perpetuates an environment of toxicity, laziness, and incompetence. Students at Phagan’s are not learning the newest trends, and when the educators tell the students they learn “just enough” to pass state boards, “just enough” should be taken quite less than literally. Most students agree you learn even less than what you need to successfully complete your state boards. The educators put in the bare minimum effort, would rather sit down on their phones than teach class. During freshmen, sophomore and junior practical exams, students have witnessed the testing educator on their phone reading, rather than watching the hands on practical exams. During pre-clinic classes, when students asked for constructive criticism they were dismissed with a hand wave and told their mannequins looked “fine. ” The educators, as well as the staff of the building never seem to be on the same page. Guests and students, are repeatedly told different rules/ answers by faculty, when guests and students ask for clarification they are met with dismissal. Students and guests have witnessed the educators gossiping about students and other educators on the salon floor, this gossip creates a distrust between the students/guests and the educators. Guests have complained that the state of the school, and the issues with faculty have escalated over the years and are continuing to worsen. The students recently discovered that the school is illegally forcing them to clean the school, according to the Oregon Board of Higher Education and OSHA. Students are legally required to clean up after each service they perform, but the school has the students cleaning bathrooms, garbages, etc. When students attempted to enlighten the school they were met with hostility and told the students would not get their mandated hours if they did not perform their sanitation. The faculty also seems to have a lack of understanding on the student handbook, when students point out contractual issues and ask for clarification the students are again met with hostility and dismissal. The front desk lies to both students and guests, when students file grievances the students are told to be more understanding of the receptionist. While students are understanding, the issues with the front desk are constantly happening and cause unnecessary stress for both clients and students. Unfortunately these issues listed above are only surface level, and there are many more deep rooted issues at Phagan’s Beauty College in Corvallis.

I loved my hair color (highlights & lowlights) and it is superior to much more expensive treatments I have had done in salons. Plus, the students care a lot. It took a little more time but it was worth much more than what I paid. I was the student’s top priority and not just a means to an end.

Just got my hair done today and it turned out amazing. I love going here to get my haircut and sometimes dyed. They always do a great job on my hair and I’m always happy when I leave. Today (3/14/19) I got a lot done. But walked away a very happy customer? I will be returning in the future

I graduated from Phagans beauty college several months ago. I passed my stateboards with flying colors and couldn't be more happy or proud of the several months i have had behind the chair. The friendships i made while there have been so amazing and encouraging and the instructors were everything i needed. They really believe in the students and push you to succeed. If you are hard-working committed to your craft and have a passiom for making the world beautiful. It was a great experience and i am glad i did it.

I survived! I graduated from this school yesterday! It was such a great experience. The staff is very helpful and amazing, and the students work very hard. Yes, they are students but if anything doesn’t work out, or isn’t to your liking, the school will do whatever they can to make you satisfied. The customer service is phenomenal, and your business propels students into success and you help them learn. Stop by today!

The students are friendly, but they are not being taught whatsoever, the student that tried to do my hair needed instructions on how to do beach waves, so the instructor told her very vague comments, didn’t show her and then left before she could even start doing anything to my hair. I am hispanic so I have thicker and curly hair. If you are anything but white or have thin straight hair do not come here. I end up with a frizz bomb everytime because no one knows how to style ethnic hair. (Even if they claim they do).

Been going to this location for years, students are always professional and friendly. Pricing is affordable, a good place to go for a quick haircut or manicure.

I was a student at the Corvallis campus that just recently graduated, and then the next day passed state boards.my time at phagans was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned so much, and I built relationships that will last a life time. If your a positive, motivated person with a good attitude looking for a beauty school to attend I highly recommend going to phagans. They become like family. ️

Phagan's is truly amazing. Right now they're doing a back to school hair cut program where your school administrator can request haircut passes for kids in need. I called our school secretary and ask if she could get some so I can get my daughter's hair cut and when phagan's called her back they said just to send the families in that no child would be turned away for inability to pay. That folks is true BEAUTY.
Edit: My nine-year-old daughter loves her hair (it really does look great) and absolutely loved the experience she had with Chelsea.

Honestly, if you are looking for a beauty school to attend, don’t go to this one. It might be more affordable, whatever. I totally would have gone somewhere else if I could go back. I thought I didn’t have any sort of issues with the school until come graduation time, at about 2yrs attendance full time, there was dishonesty about money, etc. Other girls had complained about some things I never truly believed until it finally happened to me. Do not give this school your money for the minimal education and choosiness that is tolerated here. And if you do attend this school, keep every record, every receipt, every signature and always ask for more explanation or paperwork. It might help you even when you think you wouldn’t need it. They tried, but I was prepared. Stand up for your education, from one new cosmetologist to another.

Repeat customer. Good, cheap haircut and style. They have low quality hair dye, not worth the price. These people are students, expect effort, not perfection. I always come out of here looking like a million bucks. I think the environment of the school needs improvement.
This is a much smaller facility than the one in Portland. I recommend scheduling an appointment.

I was told when I booked my appointment that I could change my nail service when I arrived, but when I got there they refused to do acrylics like I wanted. Said I should have made an earlier appt.even though over the phone I was told I could have changed the nail service I wanted done. Very frustrating.

If you are interested in going to this phagans for beauty college. Dont. I got sick and they kicked me out for it, I was sexually harrased by other students and nothing was done, further more I had medication I had to take with me to school for my fibro and had it stolen as well as other items.
