Portland Japanese Garden reviews
15 Maybe I’m too ignorant of Japanese gardens but i was hoping it would be bigger. I felt like I explored the whole garden as far as walking through it within half an hour.
There’s many areas to just sit, absorb your surroundings, and contemplate. Beautiful and peaceful nonetheless
Poor quality ownership and very lackluster experience, its no greater than any public park you can visit for free. Way overcrowded and overpriced for a few statues along a walkway.
Gorgeous fall colors, interesting exhibits, peaceful setting (at least on weekdays when it's less crowded), unique mountain location. Limited parking.
A serene and beautiful place in Portland. The walk around the garden is calming. There are benches around to sit and reflect. They have a modern tea shop and a gift shop as well. It’s autumn and the colors of the leaves are so beautiful.
Not kid friendly. Small, boring, way too expensive, super rude staff. 2 stars because if you don't have kids it would be a decent place but still too much money for what you get.
Tourist trap. Never ever has parking that's convenient. Not handicap accessible.
Then they replied to this review with an email that sends out an automatic reply that the address no longer works. I've been to this place several times. If i was childless and on a date i could definitely see going here (if she doesn't mind getting sweaty hiking up the hill). This place makes parents of toddlers feel unwelcome and your kids are gonna hate it. Go to the free rose garden across the street.
Wow! Such a stunning and peaceful place. I joined one of the free guided tours and was so glad I did. It was very informative. If you’re visiting Portland, you should definitely take the time to visit.
Beautiful grounds! Not your typical gift shop items, which was nice. Tea at Unami was great. Would love to see the gardens during the height of other seasons.
Had an awesome customer service experience thanks to John! Garden is beautiful and well maintained.
Portland’s Japanese Garden never disappoints and is all the better in a sunny, crisp fall day with the maples in their splendor.
This place seems not to care about overpacking their garden. Far too many people crammed in to enjoy the experience.
Won’t come next time I visit for sure.
Wow, this is a must visit, there is so much beauty to be found in these gardens. The cafe and the gift shop are also excellent. There is a shuttle bus which can bring you up and down, parking outside can take a little time so take that into account.
Amazing place. Stunning landscape. Traditional design. Beautiful paths with areas to stop and reflect and meditate. Everything about this place is unbelievable. It is my favorite garden in the United States by a long shot. There's also an amazing tea house and great gift shop. I could spend hours here forest bathing and taking in all the colors of green and sounds of nature.
I honestly couldn't find or write the words to do this place justice. It's beautiful the way only a Japanese garden is. That's not more than other garden types but a unique space and aesthetic that this particular one holds and in the case of this particular example excels at. It's sincerity to what makes Japanese gardens special is inspiring and heart-warming. It's just one of many jewels in the Pacific Northwest I encourage you to visit even if it is only once.
Update: Still one of the best gardens in the Pacific Northwest. It's beautiful with the fall leaves.
Japanese Garden Portland is a treasure trove of beauty, culture, and intellect. Its vastness, meticulous design, and the dedication of its caretakers make it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking solace amidst nature's grace and a glimpse into Japanese artistry and tradition. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to experience this extraordinary garden and encourage all to do the same.
