Wow, I saw somewhere that they had "oversized rolls" but I was still surprised when I saw how giant they were. Some rolls are $20 but they are the size of 2 or 3 normal sushi rolls! So, it's totally worth it but don't come here thinking you can order what you normally would. Even the nigiri are huge and very good. Just start slow and work your way up

*Limited seating due to covid restrictions and they close pretty early.

Portions are big and prices are good. Place is very tiny with limited seating so show up early. Overall a good experience.

Didn’t get a chance to try their food because there appears to be challenges balancing managing online orders concurrently with dine-in. Hospitality staff was inattentive to customers in line.

We ordered online at 5: 45pm and the system told me the food will be ready between 5: 56-6: 06pm. How accurate! Unfortunately it is now 6: 40pm, the food is still not ready yet. Ridiculous! Terrible service.

This place had amazing sashimi and crunchy rolls. Order online before you come (online ordering opens at 2 pm). Super popular but the capacity is limited. Id recommend just taking out though!

Fantastic, fresh sushi! The rolls are huge so if you don't want leftovers, reduce your normal order by about 30% seriously. If you're dining in, get there early, there's not much space and a line tends to form.

Coming from out of state and first time trying here. Food taste good but Rude owner. We were asking for some napkins and the co-worker gave us a lot tissue. However, The owner was mad at us out of nowhere because that “lot of tissue” issue. Bring your own tissue next time.

Order delay for 45+ mins. Worst nigri I've ever had, besides fishy smell, fish and rice were separated immediately when I touched it. Giant portion doesn't equal to good value.

The sushi was delicious, really big portions and was good. But I had not realized that they only took orders online, and so I called in to ask if I could take out. The person on the line was quite rude, telling me that they did not take phone orders and "never did in the past and never will" then hung up on me. I was so confused since the conversation went so fast, and when I ordered, it said 5: 05 pick up, and after I paid it said 6: 20. I was so confused and me and my family was hungry but we couldn't even cancel the order because they didn't allow it. Why say 5: 05 before I pay, then say 6: 20 after? I was really upset since my family and I all waited an extra hour to eat and we were all really hungry.

I’ve been eating here for over a decade, and it’s always been an odd mix of pleasant qualities and poor. Portions, breadth of selection, quality, and execution is consistently good. I literally remember only a single slice of fish over the course of fifteen years that was less than supple and moist. But even when they were a dine-in restaurant before this virus obsession took the world out to lunch, they always seemed overworked and overwhelmed; drained, inflexible, and even somewhat afraid. Maybe that’s just how it looks to someone from a different culture, but I’ve never seen anyone who works here smile.

The space is tight, which doesn’t seem to match the volume of orders or portions they’re always sprinting to fill. They have no apparent flexibility or patience to absorb the slightest perturbation. Asking for soy sauce seems to throw them into panic. And their train wreck of a website, apparently designed by a sushi chef, only makes more problems for them now. I made the mistake of pointing out one of the many issues it has on a hot day a couple of weeks ago and was immediately accused with full rage of trying to defraud them. In the three minutes we spent healing hearts after the eruption, 30 bags had lined up for the scowling army waiting at the door. So much pressure! But why? Are they taking too much of a loss providing so much fish? Of course I love it, but no sushi restaurant I’ve ever visited serves so much, and considering fish are apparently almost gone from grocery stores, rivers, and oceans now, it’s my first guess as to a primary problem.

In any case, I empathize deeply with her resentment, as the moral fiber of our city has been decimated in the past decade by money hoarders who seem to have been raised in a war zone where it’s every person for themself. I’ve no doubt this restaurant is often defrauded and otherwise abused. Saburo’s is once of the few remaining gems of the Portland that I used to be proud of, and I’m sure they face great pressure to maintain what must surely be a work of honor to them. These people moved here a long time ago and established a successful business that flourished for years. They need help, especially from a web designer, and I’m sad to say I’m not sure they possess the humility or even time to breathe to accept it. Please let us help you, dear friends! None of us can do this alone.

Sushi was okay, not great. The nigiri seemed to be cut rather clumsily and the rolls were so large it was impossible to get all the flavors in one bite. It wasn't exactly bad, but you can find much better sushi for the same price.

If I lived close enough I'd never cook.
Best portions of nigiri and sushi rolls I've found yet. Excellent quality and value. If Sushi is your thing check them out. One of those smaller (hole in the wall) places you almost hate to share with others.

The best sushi restaurant in the Portland area! I've been here many times over the years, and the quality of the sushi is consistently excellent, the best I can get without going to Tokyo harbor. It is indeed very popular and can be difficult to get an order in, but it is well worth the effort.

They don't take phone orders, don't take email orders, only online orders, and they have the worst website I've ever seen for a restaurant. They are only a block from my house, and I happily ate there before the pandemic, but they have absolutely no idea how to do an online-only business. They should call me if they want help.

Excellent sushi, terrible business management. On May 1st, 2021 I ordered through their online portal at 2PM. Available pick up time was between 7-8PM but was then pushed to after 9PM. I asked to cancel and received a confirmation but my card was still charged for the order. Should be an easy fix however many emails later, it is now June 16th and I have still not received a refund for the canceled order. I've had to dispute the charge with my bank. Incredibly disappointing. Unfortunately will not be ordering from Saburos again.

Really great food. Ordering online was super easy. They even called me to ask how I wanted them to make a roll gluten free for my girlfriend. And put the unagi on the side. I can't believe that they still charge so little for rolls almost the size of a burrito. 10 out of 10. Oh if you want pictures of the rolls all of the are right here in maps.

Favorite sushi of all time. Rolls and nigiri are giant and the same price or cheaper than other restaurants. They do tons of volume so the fish is always fresh. They used to be dine in only but now are take out only. Ordered online and the pickup process was smooth.

The hype is real, y'all. I've lived down the street for about six months. The email order pick up process has prevented me from wanting to order here due to seeing folks line up on weekends (no thanks). Last night we decided to give it a try due to it being a weekday and figuring the wait wouldn't be too bad.

Easy ordering process done online. We got gyoza, rainbow roll, spicy salmon roll, and real crab california roll. We did the chefs choice sashimi and three orders of sushi. Total came out to about 88.00. The amount of food provided was INSANE. For the same money at Mio Sushi we (two adults) will polish off 88.00 worth of sushi easy. We maybe ate half of it last night? Value is great, quality is great. We will without a doubt order from here again.

Excellent sushi & huge portions. The wait can be a bit long even when ordering online and being told our order is ready for pick up. There is always a wait regardless.
