SaWa's Donburi, Forest Grove OR

Rock & Roll, Double Crunchy Spicy Tuna, 2nd & Lincoln and a California Roll with Sapporo drafts for three people. The rolls are eight pieces. This is the place to go for sharing. Sushi is the absolute best west of Portland. So fresh! I usually hit the sushi restaurants with the conveyors for variety but the quality suffers. My preference is to grab two or three or four folks to share the excellent food and service Sawa offers. 4 stars is only due to beer selection. Just a few Japanese lagers to choose from.

Nice restaurant good ppl, but the waitress needs to listen better to the orders and maybe more fresh veggies in the noodles. The soda was flat

Great sake list with in-depth descriptions for the novice sake connoisseur, present company included. Nice selection of Japanese whiskeys as well. Lovely atmosphere. Not your standard sushi place, the donburi is the main event but the sushi is quite nice.

Welcoming atmosphere with pleasant decor. Staff was friendly and energetic for a Sunday evening. Food was top notch. Tempura cooked perfectly and complimented with tasty dipping sauce. Alaska roll was also delicious and well made so it wouldn't fall apart while dipping in soy sauce. Our waitress was nice and attentive.

Top notch food. Everything we ordered was good and different. Not standard sushi and tempura on the menu. Tons of fun, interesting, new stuff.

This is perhaps the best Japanese restaurant in Northwest Oregon. This was my second time here. The salmon teriyaki donburi with fried egg, chirashi with uni, and Kani-su were amazing. The Philly roll was the best I have ever had. It was our anniversary and the staff was amazing. Do yourself a favor and try this absolute gem of a restaurant!

Local Secret for this place:

They go to the Forest Grove farmers market regularly and buy different ingredients throughout the year that they will incorporate into their desserts. Almost any other restaurant I pass up dessert. Not SaWa's. I highly recommend taking them up on their dessert offering. It will surprise you in wonderful ways. It changes regularly and, in my experience, is always delicious. Their cheesecake is like butter in consistency and tastes like the essence of delight. SaWa transcends.

Maybe this is a one off experience. Been eating here for few years. Food have always been great, sushi fresh etc and services prompt and adequate. Today’s take out though - Yaki udon is terrible. Noodle is way over cooked with burnt marks, beef chewy and tough to eat. Asked for no ginger and wasabi with my roll and of course it came with it. No one checks? ! What happened? ! New or untrained cooks? ! This noodle dish is embarrassing. I hope they are aware of the low quality they produced today.

Edamame appetizer was cold and without salt, the salmon smelled fishy and the service left much to be desired. The sushi itself apart from that was bland, like it was missing something. I deducted a star because I got sick enough that by the time I got home I had to throw up. Overall, very unpleasant experience.

Ordered the Hokkaido Chirashi which comes with snow crab, uni, scallop, and salmon. $25 for fresh sea urchin and snow crab is a great deal! Waitress was really nice and service was fast. Highly recommend!

Stopped in for lunch during our stay in Forest Grove. I had the Chicken Teriyaki Don and my wife had the Oyako Donburi. Both were excellent. The restaurant were great. I wish I had room for the sushi, it also looked delicious. Maybe next time.

We came here for sushi during the 4A basketball tournament in 2023. The restaurant is quiet and nicely decorated.

The sushi was fresh and had good presentation. I appreciated the edamame as a complimentary appetizer.

Food and service was excellent. The noise level could use some work though. We found ourselves nearly shouting at each other.

Just in Forest Grove for the afternoon and discovered this gem. The perfect peaceful atmosphere and awesome food I needed to round out my week. Highly recommended

Food is not bad. Service could be better. I'd rather drive to a little farther in order to have a variety of better places.
