Not much of a review person but had to set the record straight on the nonsense 3.7 rating I'm seeing.

Food was straight up great. Had the andouille mushroom ravioli and my wife had the seafood pasta. Both plates were delicious and what you'd be expecting from a high end restaurant. Also ordered the kafta (?) Which is some pita bread hamburger type Turkish dish which tasted like kinda like tacos and was amazing. Stayed here on a holiday getaway special and also got a free bottle of wine with our 2 entree dinner which turned out to be a $70 bottle of wine which was an awesome surprise.

Also the hotel is really old, classy, and unique. Worth the visit alone even if you're not staying here.just checkout the pic from our room.

Atmosphere was nice. Clean and tidy. Generally geared towards an older crowd. The non alcoholic cocktails were very good. The food was very bad. I ordered the sirloin steak with mushroom sauce and it arrived smelling extremely unusual. The sauce appeared to be very cheap and possibly canned. The steak was difficult to cut and appeared old. We ordered it at medium rare but it tasted and smelled rubbery and appeared it had been frozen and defrosted several times. I asked to return the steak.

My wife ordered the burger and the burger was 3/10 at best. The burger had a gamy-ness that was not what I assumed to be from fresh beef. Bread was doughy and stale. Vegetables had no flavor.

Server was apologetic and understanding but staff appeared under staffed.

Overall I would have preferred in n out. Sadly.

We were very disappointed with our brunch. The menu was all salamon or tuna dishes leaving either an Indian taco or steak and eggs. My husband got the steak and eggs which was covered with a thick sauce which was not mentioned on the menu. My eggs Benedict was ok. Eggs over done and hardly any hollandaise sauce. I had to ask for more. Potatoes were undercooked. The cheese, fruit and pastry tray was nice but the dessert tray was disappointing.

Food was great, service was awesome. I personally hated the lighting. I think for a fancy restaurant like this they need soft warm lighting not bright white lights.

Drinks and appetizers on the patio outside the bar was a perfect experience and reprieve. I highly recommend stopping by, relaxing and walking the magnificent grounds. A treasure on the Columbia Gorge, anytime of year.

Old world charm with old world atmosphere all wrapped up in a 100 year old building. The staff and the grounds are amazing.

I'm not from Hood River or even Portland so I have no recollection of this places past glory. My wife, however, grew up in Hood River and at dinner tonight I saw a cherished childhood memory die a horrible death. Now we admit we didn't check the reviews before making our reservation, and we ignored the ARAMARK lanyard the woman who checked us into the hotel was wearing. That should've been a huge red flag for both of us as we both have experience working at ARAMARK run properties. When we looked over the dinner menu instead of leaving we cracked jokes about how overpriced it seemed for such uninspiring options. I'm not going to listing every little detail of how our meals weren't prepared as well as we would've liked because the truth is they could've been technically spot on and still sucked. This one star review is all about whoever made the menu needing to get back in someone else's kitchen and learn what fine dining in 2022 is. Cause they're stuck in 1994 and delivering a terrible product. We didn't even look at the dessert menu and, as I write this, are considering canceling our breakfast reservations.

The service and it was a nice quite atmosphere, but that would not overshadow that the food was not very good. The rice and vegetables were over cooked and the chicken was just okay. For the price, I expected better.
