I'm a homebrewer/beer nerd who happened by chance to be heading back to CA after a beer-filled week in Bend, OR and was aimlessly looking for a place on maps to taste some beers one morning and came across Skyline Brewing Company. Little did I know that owner/brewer Ty Kliewer is quietly making some of the best beers on the west coast in an old milking parlor on a hay farm south of Klamath Falls!
Ty has a deep knowledge of beer, beer philosophy, and brewing technique, and he brews with an aim to make "clean, balanced, and interesting" beers, claiming influence and inspiration from Tony Lawrence of Boneyard Brewing (Bend, OR) fame. I tasted a range of extremely delicious beers, with highlights including an excellently made Light Lager (hard to do), Maibock, Pale Ale, and the DIPA, many of which can be found around the area in restaurants/taprooms. It may sound like hyperbole, but the Liquid Vacation DIPA is easily one of the absolute best examples of the style I've had in the last decade.
I'll be back soon and look forward to the opening of a Skyline Brewing taproom in Klamath!
