South Jetty Beach 6 - Whale Memorial Day Use reviews
9I love the South jetty in Florence Oregon. Family friendly and your fur babies are welcome there
Over the dune to the ocean. Arriving at the parking lot at 7am Sunday in September I find the place vacant save for a couple of overnight car campers. There is a bathroom, check! I squish squash my feet through the moist grassy dune to the beach and hang a right for the half mile walk to the jetty. I commune with sea gulls, two bobbing seals and pay respects to a dead bird. No humans in sight, perhaps because of that forecasted rain. Climbing up the rocky jetty I notice how much chaos ensues when the river meets the ocean. The ocean bullies it’s way forward into the gentle stream, ruthlessly spreading salt everywhere. The water banks, churns and gristles at this new unexpected union. I feel the chaos of change in my own life and am thankful for the generosity of metaphors in nature. Going back, I cannot find the path and end up clamoring the wild dunes until from a high spot I find the path in the distance. I’m the parking lot, a grey haired single woman shakes the slumber while walking to the toilet. I wonder if she is me in ten years.
Beautiful, expect wind and sun.
Be ready to hike of wanna see the beach other than the bay Cove beach area and vrab/fishing dock
A 5 minute easy walk through the dunes to a beautiful sandy beach.
No tide pools or cliffs and such, but soft sand as far as you can see.
My family and I had a wonderful time.
Hiking in the Jetty, and had a great time at the beach. We had a lovely day.
One of the "easier" hills to walk to the beach from the South Jetty, though NOT handicapped accessible. The pit toilet at the bigger parking lot is fairly well maintained.
Amazing experience! I highly recommend going, however the site is not handicapped accessible and there is a short trail over sand dunes to the beach. Worth the trek though.
Beautiful clean beach. This is probably the most accessible of the beach entrances, though still requires walking up and down a dune.
We really like to come home through the dunes here. If you drive all the way to the very end, you can walk out along the jetty and watch seals playing in the water. It’s generally pretty quiet despite ample parked cars. There’s enough space for everyone to spread out and enjoy nature. The weather has been pretty foggy and cold when we’ve gone. The wide open beach is worth it though. It’s a great place to fly kites! There are bathrooms along the road at several of the parking areas. They are well maintained pit toilets and mostly accessible to all.
