SubTerra Kitchen & Cellar reviews
18 After dealing with me they deserve 10 stars.
Thank you sooo much for everything.
My behavior was unacceptable.
Everything was amazing
Excellent food and well-paced service. Minimalist/elegant decor, but not at all stuffy. Wait staff went out of their way to help in all respects.
Note that maps sends you on a wild goose chase to find this place. Access is from 99W/Hancock St, heading southwest through town. NOT off of Villa Rd
What a joy! Dinner was spectacular! Service excellent! And we got to meet the fabulous Cheff and his sweet wife Stephanie. Definite an unforgettable experience. Congratulations!
A wonderful menu with local food and prepared expertly. Good vegan options. Plenty of local wine knowledge. Accommodating and friendly.
Amazing place for date-night. Great staff, very nice owner. Incredible food. This is where I go for special occasions. $$$
Service was great, really helpful and nice. Wines were good as well. The food was decent, some hit and miss. Not quite top quality for top tier pricing.
Hidden gem in Newberg - upscale yet understated and comfortable dining room. Friendly and helpful staff, and wonderful menu with an eclectic mix of creative and delicious dishes.
The waiter was very attentive. The food was good and delivered very quickly. The cocktail was so so. They had robots delivering the food which was the first time I had seen this. The kids behind us were fascinated by them!
This was a special dinner at a special place. Everything was perfect from the wine to dessert. Javier and Stephanie are wonderful owners, and Nicole provided impeccable service. We enjoyed the Cazuela (similar to Cioppino) and Gnocchi (short rib option.) We will see you again!
Great place to visit after a trip to wine country. Wonderful wait staff, great service, well designed dining area. Eclectic menu with many local fresh items. We'd go back in a heartbeat!
Food and service are top notch! Truly an excellent find. This was our second time here and both times we walked away saying how incredible it was. We would like to see more done with interior design to make it feel like you’re dining in a wine cave, but it’s s lovely, clean, crisp, atmosphere with lovely artwork. Bottom line: the food is amazing and the service is great.
We hosted a rehearsal dinner at SubTerra and we couldn't have been happier with the whole experience. Stephanie and Javier made a special menu that could accommodate our group. They were so kind, helpful and professional. The food was amazing. The service was top notch. Thank you to the entire staff for making it such a special night for us!
Food was very good but the service made for a disappointing meal. We waited 15 minutes after being seated as the server tried to sort out the bill from the only other table in the restaurant. Drinks arrived then we waited for the appetizer. Before the appetizer was finished the salad arrived. The mains were 20 minutes after the salad plates were cleared. Our check was incorrect when it arrived. This was a meal we were looking forward to but turned out to be just ok.
We ate here for the first time & it was excellent with some sweet surprises. They called to confirm our online reservation and asked about dietary restrictions or needs. Then, were we celebrating anything special? Our anniversary had been a couple of weeks before and we hadn't had a celebratory dinner. We told them since it was a few weeks ago, they didn't need to do anything; however, they mentioned they thought it was still important. We arrived and felt welcomed by everyone and were charmed by the beautiful atmosphere, the very kind waitstaff who even gave us a list of favorite wineries we could go visit during our stay. The appetizers were outstanding and each of our entrees had such creative taste combos (their menu changes often, because the chef, trained in France, is so inventive, we learned). Dessert featured the best tiramisu we've ever had, including Italy. The interesting taste of truffle ice cream was a sweet and savory combo that had our brains and tastebuds surprised in a wonderful way. Our cocktail was a lavender-gin delicious something - they are more than just great wines at Subterra. They surprised us in the end with a little anniversary celebration, too. We would go there every day if Subterra was in our town. Consider them for your next meal or, as a friend later told us, a really nice place for a gathering or meeting.
Wonderful dinner. Memorable for all the best reasons. Each dish prepared with a delicate touch but still perfectly seasoned, creative and delicious. Great wine list also.
We've been here before covid and loved it, it was just so different this time. The food was ok, it's been remodeled and felt a bit cold. Not sure we will go back.
Delighted that “date night” occurred this week on Valentines Day. SubTerra is one of Essential Confection’s restaurant partners, and we love visiting and supporting what our partners do best.
Our first pre fixe selection was a lightly spiced arugula salad with Calabrian chili oil, lemon, pecorino Romano and hazelnuts.
Paul chose the corn empanada (blue and yellow corn) with shimeji mushrooms, Oaxaca cheese and Coban pepper. Lovely texture and flavor. My squash purée with creamed leeks was perfectly punctuated with a seared scallop.
We both chose the Dungeness risotto with peas and mascarpone garnished micro-greens. Soothing and luxurious.
SubTerra partners with a local truffle maker: 5 selections beautifully presented. Naturally, we had to taste our Essential Chocolate Amaretto Cheesecake Mini, made all the more luxurious by a svelte chocolate cremeux.
Sheila Nicholas of Anam Cara Cellars in Newberg visited with us at the conclusion of the meal. We’re huge advocates of offering more than guests expect, particularly when wine education is involved. We adored their dry Riesling and will be searching them out to snag our own supply.
Service is bright and attentive. Owners Stephanie and Javier Santos’ relational style of restaurant service is how we enjoy dining out.
Do pay a visit.
This a very nice restaurant. Great food and even more exceptional service. Melissa was our server and she was amazing. So attentive to us. Very kind attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I would recommend to friends.
