Sushi Ki-ichi reviews
14Sushi is all about freshness! Tasty and unpretentious! So far my favorite in the entire Portland, especially better than the famous ones in downtown.
One of the best sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to. This is not an “above a sushi train” place, it’s much better.
An initial stand out is their tea. Get it, possibly even on a warm summer day, as it’s good tea.
They have all the regular stuff plus a good handful of less common or positively altered items.
Try dashimaki tamago, karaage, or buta-kako for an appetizer. Try creamy scallop or sea urchin, both better than average. Try fatty tuna, something I’ve known of for a while but have never seen at a restaurant before. For rolls, try salmon skin. They leave flesh on the skin and decorate the dish with more than you would expect. Oh, and definitely get a hand roll - they’re simple and reasonably priced.
Why only four stars? Strangely, they’re not very good during lunch hours. Everything from poor preparation to poor cooking happen about four out of five times at lunch. No idea why.edit: It had been a while since I had visited for lunch, so I’ve returned a couple of times.and it’s now about six out of seven times that the food isn’t as good as it is at dinner time. I still highly recommend this place, just don’t be surprised by moist rolls at lunchtime.
Best Japanese restaurant in Portland! I cannot stress enough how authentic and delicious the sushi is, especially the nigiri. You cannot go wrong with Sushi Kiichi. I lived in Japan for years and the taste instantly transports me back. VERY high quality fish.
Loved the otoro and albacore nigiri here. Great atmosphere and very warm, welcoming place. Such delicious food.
We were visiting the area and this place came with a solid recommendation. The selection was relatively small but the food was good. The downside: The service was very slow. It took 20 minutes for someone to come over to take our order. One of the staff was chatting with another table for that long which left one person to take care of all of the tables. If I'm ever in the area again, we will try another place.
The salmon & tuna nigiri was top notch (the uni was a fail, sadly.) I wasn't a fan of the rolls (which is typical for me.) I'll be back for the nigiri when I'm in tigard. The size was just smaller than Saburo's, which is amazing (2nd largest portion in PDX.) The service was hustling & we never had an empty glass. It took quite a while to get our small order, but I feel like it was a case of bad timing with a huge to-go order right in front of us. Overall, i was highly impressed with the quality and taste and rank them high on my short list of solid sushi restaurants in Portland.
The food was great. The price is a bit high but you do get quality sushi. Only place I ever seen red bean mochi dessert being served in the area. The sashimi was fantastic. The raw option are great, cooked options are available but not my preference. Reccomend a try if you are in the area. Easy parking next to a hobby card game place. I'm pretty sure the sushi chef is an authentic chef.
When I walked in I saw a bunch of Japanese people dining here. That’s how you know this place is good.
The sushi here is delicious and the family that runs this restaurant is very dedicated to their craft. All of the dishes here taste similar to the dishes I ate in Japan and were delicious. One of the few places I would recommend as an authentic Japanese restaurant. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a real taste of Japan.
Food is good, authentic, and well presented. Japanese run unlike so many other sushi restaurants.
One of the best restaurants on the west side. Excellent selection, wonderful staff and tasty food. Definitely a place to try.
My favorite place for affordable, delicious and thoughtful sushi. The staff is super friendly and while the atmosphere is pretty bare bones, it's always a good meal.
Best sushi in Tigard/Tualatin! All the fish is amazing. Nice touches on the rolls and nigiri that shows the chef cares. Wonderful friendly service. Calamari was perfection. The pork belly absolutely melts in your mouth. If you like saba, pictured, theirs is the best. If you've never tried uni this is the place. Super fresh and presented well. The place was fairly busy which I was so happy to see. I thought we might lose this gem to covid.
SEP2023 Update: still amazing. My Uni was buttery perfection. Fatty tuna was as good as I've had in the states. Hand rolls are generous portions with nice crispy wraps. I could spend all day here sampling the sushi.
The best sushi I’ve had in OR! So tasty and it never disappoints. The service is quick and efficient. It’s a bit pricey but it’s definitely worth it. Highly recommend giving it a try!
I’ve never been here, but I ordered a to go order the rainbow roll. When I got home and opened up the container. Just by the look of it, I knew it was going to be not good. I threw it away.
Prices are higher than a high and sushi restaurants in Portland as well for poor quality sushi.
