Tamastslikt Cultural Institute reviews
13We visited with our school. I loved it! It's nice to learn about different indigenous cultures around the U. S. This cultural center focuses on tribes from the Pacific Northwest.
Every 1st Friday of the month Kinship Cafe inside the cultural institute has Indian Tacos for $10 and also admission is FREE to all who enter. It's a great 1-2 hrs walk thru of Indians on the Umatilla reservation from beginning of time until now. Worth the time and you learn so much the gift shop is fun to!
Went on a field trip with a homeschool group. Very educational and great museum. Awesome staff.
This museum has a Nez Perce personal guide named John to guide you through the museum. John has a great personality and a good sense of humor. He made our visit more informative and enjoyable
Very moving experience. Is important to see history from their perspective. Highly recommend.
A nice museum to spend
an afternoon learning
about the history of the
Confederated Tribes of
the Umatilla Reservation
- The Cayuse, Umatilla
and the Walla Walla tribes.
The exhibits take you
through the traditional
longhouse, the seasonal
cycle of food, and the
introduction of the horse.
The ancestral lands were
taken by treaty, and the
tribes were forced to
give up their traditional
ways.
The church and boarding
school forced the tribes
to give up their language
and become assimilated
to western ways.
The tribes have in recent
years built a casino, hotel
and other ventures to
bring a better life for the
people.
Located easy of Pendleton
on Highway 84 and behind
The Wildhorse Casino.
A nice stop in the Pendleton
area to learn about the
history, struggles and
future of The Confederated
Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation.
Didn't have enough time to do it properly an hour and 15 minutes was far from enough time
Excellent facility. Exhibits are well laid out and give a really good overview of the Indian experience and lifestyle to present.
Extremely informative and well laid out. Displays were outstanding. Not sure of cost or buying tickets in advance as we were part of a tour.
This is a well-presented history of the local tribes. Tracing the history of the people brings to light how poorly they were treated by the white settlers, government and Christian religions.
This is a cool as ever place visit. Good food to go. Yummy Huckleberry desserts and homemade soups. Good kind welcoming service. I enjoy my visits.
I was visiting relatives in the area and they paid for my ticket. The museum was almost empty so there was lots of space between groups. It was very informative, interesting regarding the history of the native people and their interaction with the settlers.
The sales rep was very helpful and asked all our questions.great products in the gift shop
