The Velvet Rope, Portland OR

Was told that my MARRIED partner and I, looked to be suspicious. We were told to wait in the seating area to decide if we were ok to enter. I told them we’d go home to have fun instead. Very discriminatory and ready to judge. If your looking for a safe fun space to be yourself, this is not it.

We've been to TVR a couple of times pre COVID. New year, new adventures so I wanted to check reviews. I was surprised to see photos of people. Seems I remember a time where cameras and pictures weren't allowed for the privacy and safety of the clients. You're pretty vulnerable here. How are you supposed to feel safe knowing that people are free to take pictures and then likely to Post online? That alone is keeping me from returning.

Absolutely love this place! TVR has everything you could want from a social club. Hot tubs, pool tables, dance floor, two bars, great food at very reasonable prices. The best part is the staff and patrons though.

I've been a member since 2017 and I feel like this place is my "Cheers" or an extension of my living room. The staff are always friendly and the patrons are warm and inviting to everyone. If you haven't visited yet, what are you waiting for? You'll wish you had come sooner.

TLDR: prejudice against Latinxs

I've been here several times and have had good experiences. That said, the last time I went I was privy to a highly xenophobic conversation in which "Spanish Speakers" (i.e. Coded language for Latinxs) were being labeled and generalized as disrespectful. When I voiced my concerns to the front desk, the staff member involved in the conversation (who I now know is the OWNER) dismissed me as drunk and as the conversation not of importance. This place has lost 3 customers, and I warn all Latinxs to be hesitant of this place as you are automatically assumed to be disrespectful.

I used to love this place. It used to be warm and welcoming to everyone, especially the lgbtqa+ community.
But now it's not. So sadly I have to edit my review. Currently the owner/operator is biased against all who are trans, and excludes them from the club and/or picks sides if there's an issue between the trans person and a cis person.
I highly DON'T recommend going if you support the lgbtqa+ community.

Have gone 3 times now and absolutely love it! Before my first time going to a club like this I was super nervous and hesitant to go but I decided to go all out for my dirty 30 and kick it off right.
The people at TvR are all super nice and do not seem judgemental at all which was so nice. To go to a place and not feel like your judged or looked at differently because you like different things is definitely an amazing feeling.
Staff is super nice and awesome! If you have an issue with another person at the club they will immediately deal with the issue and get it resolved and if it is a rule breaking issue they will find the person who broke the rules and kick them out!
Shout out to the owner David! He is an awesome and friendly guy and helps make all feel safe and welcome!

They act like they have a dress code but there are tweekers in wifebeaters and Walmart jeans walking around. They do have good wings tho.

I have been here 5 times. A very well run club.the people are very nice. Very clean. I always have fun. I wonder why they don't hire employees.and use " volunteers". I wish they would hire people outright. I know it's a bit nitpicking.but it's how I feel.

I actually came here 3 nights in a row and joined the membership on my second night. The people I've met here are amazing and the environment is great. I liked the drinks as well. Definitely recommend this place for all the new comers.

Hello I’m Nubia It was our first time going to the velvet rope we had an fantastic time the staff is amazing And the vibe was out of this world we are definitely coming back thank you again for making us feel welcome

I went with my friend and when they were checking our IDs the woman (a middle aged woman with long kinky brown hair I believe) rapidly copied down something from my ID without asking my permission (it could have been my license number or address) before I realized what went on and took it back, while she didn't copy anything from my friend's ID and just briefly glanced at it like you're supposed to to verify age. This made me feel deeply uncomfortable and we were unable to relax and enjoy our night and so we left shortly after.

We were just trying to go out and have nice night together and I wasn't looking to have my personal information copied without my consent to be used for who knows what. It's not OK that this place does not ask for permission or respect a person's right to informed consent or personal privacy. I've never been to a place that does this at the door. If they so casually disrespect people and do not practice consent or privacy at the front desk, then can you imagine what other types of practices they are allowing inside?

There were far more men than women and many of the men, including some of the staff, were getting way too close to people without ever asking. They would come up and stand very close to you. I had numerous people come up to me and rub my back or arm as they said hello without ever asking first. It was a very uncomfortable atmosphere, and I would have felt even more creeped out if I had been all alone and hadn't been with my friend. I would not recommend this place, I will not come back, and I regret going.

Very chill staff! Very welcoming for all genders, orientations, sizes, and races. Enjoyed the hotub, music and vibe!

Haven't been there in years and would STILL recommend it to friends. The owners are awesome and the staff is great! Might make an appearance soon.

This place is one of my favorite place to go hang out and relax. There are great staff and good people that go there. The staff is always willing to help you out and great food and very safe place for everyone.

I'll start by saying that there was lady working there that was very nice but the place is dated and there is very little action and for a $100 they shouldn't have a problem with rentry

I was hosted by my GF on Kink Nite and it was an amazing experience! The people who own and operate the establishment and all who work therein are amazing and fun people. The experiences inside will be galvanized into my brain. Going again Tonight!

I went one night and it was dead, but I bought a membership because I figured I'd go mote then once. Tonight, after working three jobs all December, I finally had time and money to go out. And the cover was $75!

I'm new to Portland. I don't know anyone, but I used to go to similar clubs in SF, and it was only $75 on super special nights. This was Jan 3rd. It's not like I can get in cheaper if I go with someone because the only person I know is my ex who was watching our child so that I could go.

I'd even be okay if the price was clearly advertised, but it's not. I looked at the website before going and cover was _not_ displayed prominently.
