The TLDR of this rating is: These guys are awesome! If you’re having transmission related issues or just need a second opinion, I highly suggest giving them a call. They were fair, transparent, and extremely helpful in my recent experience with them.

Full Story: I brought my car (2012 Kia Forte) into a Kia Dealership about 10 days ago to get a safety recall for the airbags taken care of. My car had also been experiencing a weird acceleration / loss of power issue that had been progressively getting worse over the past few months - so I asked Kia to run a basic diagnostic as well (which cost $150). They said it might take a day or two so they supplied me with a 2-day rental car (which cost another $100).

The next day, I received an email with Kia’s diagnostic report which concluded that the transmission was bad and needed to be replaced ($2,700), along with a laundry list of other minor issues which resulted in a grand total of $4,400 worth of repairs. Keep in mind that I bought this car for $7,000 about four years ago. I was pretty disappointed with the estimation on everything but luckily I had a friend who encouraged me to seek out a second opinion and suggested that I check out Tigard Transmission Center. Thank God that I did – who knew that phone call would end up saving me thousands of dollars.

Once I brought my car into Tigard Transmission Center, they were pretty confident that it wasn’t actually a transmission issue but something else. They spent the next few days and countless hours running their own diagnostics and troubleshooting, free of charge. Throughout this process they remained communicative and seemed genuinely curious about what the hell was going on with my car. Within a few days, they figured out that the issue was NOT the transmission after all. The issue was the throttle body.

In the end, Tigard Transmission Center was able to solve the issue and only charged me $300! The $2,700 “Transmission” issue that was designated by Kia was a complete misdiagnosis. In fact, the misdiagnosis nearly cost as much as what Tigard Transmission Center charged me to actually fix it. I really can’t say enough positive things about these guys. They saved me thousands of dollars and potentially thousands more worth of headaches. “Do you know what a good mechanic is worth? ” If you have any issues or just need a second opinion, call these guys immediately. I’ve been a repeat customer of Tigard Transmission for approximately five years. This is my first review of them. I should have done it earlier. I just have to say: They have repeatedly earned my business and they’ve earned this review.

I’m an attorney, but I fancy myself a mechanic. I’ve removed and completely rebuilt engines. I know cars. But transmission internals/rebuilds are beyond my experience (and that of most mechanics) so I trust them to Ken. The important thing is: I am one of those people who would know if a shop was blowing smoke trying to add work (“it definitely needs a new widget”) or up-charge (“I know I said $700 but It took more labor than expected and it ended up $1,500”).

If you have a transmission issue, don’t bring it to someone who doesn’t specialize in transmissions. A normal “mechanic” will 100% just tell you you need a new transmission and they’ll swap it. Big mistake.

Take it to a transmission expert. If you want honesty and competence, bring it to Tigard Transmission. Support this local husband and wife business. They value their customers and will treat you right.

Fhey stood by us with great customer service even though the transmission we asked them to install was as faulty as the one it was supposed to replace. In the end, they put some super synthetic fluid on there and we are on the road again!

Told me they would pull it in next week for a month straight, sat outside the shop for 2 months. They got the work at a fair price but bring your own parts cause others have had problems with their's and expect to not have the car for an extended period of time.

We had a broken Flex Plate on our '04 Dodge 2500. I contacted Ken at Tigard Transmission and he agreed to let us bring the truck in right away. The problem was fixed in very few days and at a reasonable cost. They are super friendly and work well with their customers! They also gave us a very good warranty on the work that was done.

My husband took his truck here for transmission repair. It was a very stressful time for us in this season of life but tiger transmission was there to help us get back on the road! I’ve had three transmissions repaired here over the years. Ken and the team always took good care of me.

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer with close to 200K miles that had both failing transmission and 4 wheel drive. I was struggling on whether to fix and repair the vehicle or sell it. Ken and his wife and the mechanics worked with me on my best options. The communication was timely, fair and honest. The vehicle runs great. I have a safe and ready to roll vehicle for my soon to be 15 year old daughter in July. I will being all my vehicles here. Thank You Tigard Transmission!

We brought my Jeep Grand Cherokee in for transmission work and he ended up fixing some of the other issues we had at a low price. The tech was super friendly and happy to help. We will definitely go here again with any future problems.we have a Jeep so there are bound to be more!

I don’t even know where to start! You guys are true hero’s.not only did you save us a couple thousand dollars but your saved us from the intense pressure of having a Vehicle down and out of commission.

So. My experience.
I have a tuned dodge diesel 6.7 with a crazy amount power and a another stock transmission was not an option.

Before coming to (Tigard Transmission) I shopped around for days pricing the upgraded transmission I would need in order to handle to amount of power my power engine produces along with towing my 16,000 fifth wheel trailer.

The quotes I received from other guys were ranging from $6800-$7000 plus.talk about sticker shock!
Anyway. Ken (The owner of Tigard transmission)
Received my inquiry of pricing and promptly called me back.
I told him my situation and he had me come in to do a free estimate.
When they dropped the pan they found a large amount of metal in the pan and the Magnet that is designed to attract metal particles looked like a porcupine.
Anyway Ken and his crew where on it and did the same After market build I was originally looking for at only $4500!
They literally saved me thousands!

We had a great experience! The owner did a wonderful job keeping us updated and talking to us directly about best options for us. Very professional and patient. I recommend this place because even when we only called for an estimate, he really went in depth to tell us what to look for when trying to fix our car. They did a great job.

The absolute worse. I'm out almost $4000 and after multiple attempts of them trying to fix THEIR transmission it still doesn't run right.

Isn't it curious how the owner responds to every negative complaint like they have no idea what's going on or it's the first time he's hearing of the problem? It's a small shop. I promise you that know of my situation and every other person they've screwed. They're just trying to save face online.

Go somewhere else. Don't say I didn't warn you!

CROOKS. THE ABSOLUTE WORST!
$3600 later and after multiple trips I still have a broken transmission. I finally had the car towed out of there because I couldn't take it anymore. Luckily I can still file small claims during Covid.

Look through the owner's other review responses. Isn't it convenient that they either claim ignorance of the situation all together, or blame it on the cars computer. Never their fault.

Avoid this place!

Changed the module from my 2012 Impreza. I had a good experience and the price was very reasonable. The repairs were done with in 3 days. Thanks Ken and Tigard Trans Team
