Hotel Timberline Lodge reviews
18Great location and very rustic. There is also a great atmosphere in the restaurant with a view of the MT Hood. An ale and a good snack for a good price. Very friendly, unobtrusive staff.
Beautiful stop for a look around and an amazing hot chocolate! Get the one with all the extras for $2 more!
We didn't stay here because the cost is outrageous, but it's fun to visit and walk through the place. The bottom floor has some historical information. There's also a nice living room area with big fireplaces and comfy chairs, plus a restaurant.
Great building.
Great views.
Great food and drink.
Little pricey, but see above.
We had a really poor experience at Timberline.
We booked one-dog friendly room and a second room for my sister for an event (a showing of The Shining at the place it was filmed).
We knew check-in wasn't until 4, but we were exhausted from traveling and hoped we could check in early to the room that would allow us & the dogs to rest. We arrived at 12: 30, ate a lunch on the patio, and then went to the front desk at ~2 p.m. We inquired - they said check-in wasn't until 4, but the room might be ready early and they'd call to let us know. A staffer stopped by to where we were waiting in the lobby once around 2: 45 and said the room would be ready soon. We never saw him again. Once more, around 3: 30, I asked the front desk if we could be let in - we didn't even care about cleaning- because we'd been sitting in the lobby since 1 p.m, exhausted. They said, no, we'd have to wait until 4. I would have preferred they say right out that the room would absolutely not be ready until 4 p.m, rather than us wait three hours, exhausted, in the lobby with our dogs on the hope that the room would be free.
Both times I inquired at the front desk, staff were almost aggressive about telling me that dogs were not allowed to be unaccompanied in the room. We were aware. We gave up a ticket to the event to ensure someone would be with the dogs. I understand the reasoning, but it should be ok for people with well-behaved dogs, to be able to leave to go eat at the restaurant or go to a 90 minute event. There's a fee for dogs to cover the possibility of destruction. That should be persuasion enough without aggressive reminders from staff.
The last dog-related thing that really was frustrating was that after all the hype about not leaving the dogs alone, not having the dogs off leash, having to walk through a maze to get the dogs in and out of our rooms so we didn't walk through the eating areas.we met the Lodge dog, Bruno, a huge St. Bernard (so cute!)
Bruno was very sweet, but has terrible recall. My sister's dog gets anxious on stairs and we ran into Bruno *off-leash* on the stairs with two leashed dogs. The woman in charge of him had a hard time getting his collar to gain control of him. Fortunately my sister had her dog in hand, but it was *extremely* frustrating that with all the overzealous communication about what our dogs were and weren't allowed to do that Bruno was just out walking around the hotel off-leash with poor recall he has and no one physically controlling him. It seemed very hypocritical and kind of capped off the experience at Timberline.
We also had very disappointing service at the Ram's Head. We went there for two meals - lunch and dinner. Unfortunately, since dogs aren't allowed, one of us had to sit out dinner (me) and stay in the room. The rest of my family had incredibly slow service. They went to the Ram's Head at 4: 30 p.m. It took 15 minutes for a server to appear, and another 20 minutes for the first drink order. The food didn't come until 5: 40. That meant that my food, which had to be brought back to the room, did not arrive until 6: 05 p.m, which meant that all of us wound up missing a significant portion of the event we were at the Timberline for which began at 6 p.m, so that I could eat, and the dogs could be fed and walked.
If we'd been able to check into our room just half an hour earlier, we might have been able to enjoy the whole event.
We did come back to Ram's Head after the event, and the server we had the second time was great. We also stopped by the event bar. Big ups to the two women working the bar during The Shining event - they were fantastic and helped turn around what had started out being a very frustrating day.
I did stop by the Wy'East gift store, and it was well-stocked, and had very helpful staff members who helped me locate a particular kind of souvenir.
So - gorgeous location, gorgeous lodge, really neat space, but so much of my experience was hampered by the terrible service at the front desk and the restaurant that I can't recommend Timberline to anyone in good conscience.
The location is pristine, absolutely gorgeous. The history of the establishment is pretty interesting, as is the self guided museum. The price was definitely a selling point since they had a special for half off. Only complaint is about the construction being done outside. Very noisy in the morning.
Beautiful hotel with a lot of charm: all in wood, warm and cozy, located in an incredible forest and under an imposing peak. You feel really close to God
There is a group room that has an upright piano where groups can rent or they have events like movie showings etc. The lodge had a buffet $30 for adults $15 for kids. It was ok, but if you are hungry and want to hang out a while and go a few rounds over a few hours it is worth it. Buffet featured soup, salads, breads, potatoes, make your own waffles and tri tip, bbq pulled pork veggies and desserts. It is buffet only when it is going 11-2. There is another bar and restaurant that opens at 2pm. Beautiful view of the Cascades. You can walk through the lower lodge which is more active during snow season with snowboard and ski rentals, buffet, vending machines and restrooms for skiers and snowboarders.
So.much history in this building. Also great views.
Had lunch at the Ram bar inside and lunch was delicious.
Also checked out the cute gift shop.
I'm there every weekend during the snowboard season, and I love this place! It's perfect
Cannot comment on the rooms or service as we were there just to look around at this National Landmark. We were able to see their mini museum on the main floor and saw a sample room from the 1930s when it opened, having been a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project to get people back to work after the Depression. Even saw the chair made specifically for President Roosevelt.
There is a bar as well as a restaurant. However, the restaurant was closed, getting ready for dinner, and the bar area, though it did have plenty of seating, was full. We continued our own exploration of the public areas of the lodge, then went over to the Wyeast day-use building.
Went here for the views. Didn't stay the night. There are hiking trails that lead right from the lodge. Worth a visit
A must-see place to visit if you want to be at the foot of the majestic snow-capped mountain.
Stopped by for a quick bite.
Harris was fantastic. Angi, the manager was very kind and attentive. Morgan, our server was super efficient and made it look like a breeze even though rams head was PACKED. Great experience.
The food here is always great. Fresh and high quality ingredients. We recently ate here on a Saturday when there was a major football game on in the bar and some sort of bicycling event at the lodge. The place was packed. We still got a table in under 15 minutes and although the wait for food was slightly longer, they gave us a heads up and were super professional and friendly throughout the service. Never seemed overwhelmed. The food was still as delicious as usual. The views here are amazing. For a truly peaceful experience, try coming here on a weekday in an off-season. The fire is crackling downstairs, the architecture of the giant wood beams and stone chimney are relaxing to take in. The cold-weather treats like hot cocoa are brought in glass mugs with a large swirl of whip cream. Everything is aesthetically pleasing.
Stopped in to get a good look at Mt Hood.
The bike park was open. For a basic bike and helmet rental with lift tickets, it'll cost you around 150$ for the day. We decided to pass. Gift shop was open. We couldn't find any coffee or food that was open. We were there on a Friday morning. Definitely a good spot for outdoor activities. I've heard good skiing, too.
I was there with a group on a summer day trip for a guided tour of the lodge, so can't comment on the rooms or service. But it's architecturally, historically, and artistically fascinating. The tour is certainly worthwhile. And of course I think it safe to say this must be a winter wonderland, not that the summer hiking and mountain biking opportunities aren't great too. The Pacific Crest Trail runs right by.
Very nice 30's lodge. Beautiful architecture, helpful friendly staff. Great hiking trails.
