I graduated from Tongue Point way back in 1984 with my g.e. D.and 10 months training in electronics assembly. It was a great experience and helped me to get a job in electronics after i graduated. I would recommend going to job corps to anyone who just cant seem to cut it in a regular school environment.

Lots of people go there to play around and chill, if you’re goal oriented you can get job skills that pay very well. Food wasn’t the best but it’s free, they do treat you like a kid. Do what you need to do and graduate. I got my GED, and my merchant marine documents and went on the adventure of a lifetime! Avoid drama as there’s lots around. It’s a good opportunity make use of it.

This place would be better if we had staff that cares about the students, and not how much they are making. If you want your child to have a good mental health and place where the feel safe, DO NOT SEND THEM TO HOB CORPS. Some staff do care about us, and I know the ones who do cause I completed from here, but if you do come here make sure they don’t silence you! Speak up for yourself and others

The best choice I have ever made to better myself. I was from Salem, Oregon and chose Astoria, Oregon TPJCC. I was there for 1 year and 2 months.obtained my vocational training certificate for Office Administration and my high school diploma, GED, permit and driver license. Made memories lasting a lifetime and had support through the excellent staff and friends we made during the time here.

If you are even suggesting this, try it! It was a Godsend. Go JobCorps! Was here in 2011

Was there in 82 / 83. Had a blast.
Lived in the new dorms by the lagoon next to the tug boats.
Use to have hidden military shelter's in the woods.

2015- It was an experience. I did painting, took Math, and got my drivers license. Hey Tandy! It’s quite interesting how many LGBTQ students were attending. As a Pansexual, coming out at Tongue Point had it’s ups & downs. There was a lot of bullying, unfortunately but, life isn’t always kind. I wrote my ex’s name on an art stone there but, at least, it wasn’t a tattoo. I’m a security guard & going to college. I’m not rich but, I’m no longer broken.

If you plan on going here - Keep your head down, work hard, and get out.

As with any program like this there is a lot of very rude and angry students, you will get harassed for anything, and no one will be held accountable for it. SPO and other staff pick and choose who they like and treat them accordingly. If you're liked, you will have your problem listened to. If you are not liked / unknown then good luck!

Bring ear plugs or sound proof head phones because there is constant music from Bluetooth speakers being played by students. I personally complained 20+ times about my neighbor playing loud music all day and night. Nothing happened until I went higher up the ladder and bothered them everyday.

Food is okay - Accommodations for vegan and vegetarian students. Salad bar w/ raw veggies and fruits. If you eat the regular meals here and nothing else, you will gain weight.

The rules are ridiculous at times, you can be 20-24 years old and still be treated like you're 13.

They have certain ways you need to do things which don't make sense. There can be a solution to a problem that would save hours of time, paperwork, and a lot of money. But if it isn't the Job Corps way then it isn't allowed.

The trade manager Garrett Reeves is a very mean and angry person, you will get targeted for something even if you follow the rules to the T. He can not be reasoned with, does not respond to student emails. Is very rude to the instructors he is in charge of. Over all a very unpleasant person.

Positive aspects: They pay for you certifications, they help you get your drivers license, diploma, good dental care and health care. Free food, free place to stay. If you dont have other options / want some free training you can tough it out and achieve a lot here.

Don't. Go. Whatever you do. DON'T GO. Already warned you, don't trust the reviews. But if you're smart, trust mine.

Great place for young adults who are looking to start training for a career or are not quite sure and need a little help. I was a student here from May 2011 to June 2012. I learned a lot during my time here and it was a great overall experience.

Recently graduated earning my LPN license No thanks to this job corps. The reason I rate this job corps one star is because I got kicked out for standing up for my rights as a student attending. They thought I was talking back and stripped me of my opportunity to attend the clatsop college for CNA. The year 2012 was not a good year to attend seeing as the Vice principle and health care teachers were hazardous for students. My least favorite thing about this job Corp was the food. Doesn’t matter if you have a stomach of steel, diarrhea is in everyone’s future. Thanks a lot tongue point, you are hardly responsible for making me who I am today.

Some of the staff abused me when I told someone about it they punished me. I learned little to nothing. My roomroom was allowed to throw books at my other roommates heads. The staff lie to other staff. There are only 3 staff members there that where redeamible people and they fired them. Don't go here if you one have a brain and two are a good person. The staff here look at you and think you horrible and going to cause trouble unless you have gold status and you only get that by grovelling.

TPJC pays off for kids that use it. I completed the program in 1989. DOL should invest more in these schools. Tax $ well spent on the backbone of our country and saved me from an ugly future. It wasn't easy but looking back, I loved it. Thank you TPJC!

It was very stressful at times. Not a bad program considering you get everything for free. Foods is alright not the best but its free food so cant complain. Alot rules and alot of things you can get written up for. There good times for me as well. You just have to try and fight until the end. Your time flys quick there. The whole roll call rule is dumb. I think it is worth going. The clothing trip is cool cause they give you 100 dollars after three weeks and another one before you complete. There ups and downs for job corps. One thing i hated is the drama. You will make alot of friends there. My advice is keep conquering and you will make it to the finish line.

It was an OK program to be in. But was disappointed as i was unaware that they no longer did Home Health Aide program.had to find out before i was able to change where i was going to go there. Spent just under a year there as well, and changed trades three times, failed all three times.they didn't help me learn the trades properly. Only one teacher was okay, other two were iffy.

I went in 1980 and 1981 it was a memorable time. I met my life partner there and I really wish they had reunions because I lost touch of a lot of good friends. I miss them.
