Umami Café at Portland Japanese Garden reviews
16 Beautuful, enjoyable and serene.
Truly impressive architectural design.
Tried the Hojicha and Chokara tea set. Also the miso soup and rice as well as the flight of three Mochi Ice Cream.
Highly recommend it all.
What a great way to spend a drizzly afternoon.
Amazing and authentic experience. Waiting time is long and would recommend to visit with reservation. Outdoor seating would be amazing for summer.
Ridiculously high prices for tiny portions of (with the exception of the brownie) "meh" pastries. Even my matcha tea was weak and cold. Do yourself a great favor: Get in your car, drive 1/2 mile to Ken's Artisan Bakery on NW 21st and have fantastic sweet and savory pastries and lovely drinks. I promise.that is exactly what we will do next time!
The menu is simple and delicious. The tea was amazing. It’s the perfect spot after a tranquil stroll through the Japanese gardens. Everything was delicious.
Beautiful scenery and the tea and little desserts were decent. But it was very expensive and service was okay.
The highlight of our trip to Portland! Gorgeous views of the Japanese garden. Warm and relaxing minimalist interior where the tea and views shine. Tea and snacks were high quality. My favorite was the genmaitcha tea and miso soup. Ensure you make reservations in advance.
Great experience! Don't forget to make reservations. Very peaceful exclusive atmosphere, friendly accommodating staff, delicious items!
Very nice experience, very authentic tea at Umami Café.
We thought we made the reservation, but turned out we only made the reservation for the garden… but luckily there was a outdoor seat available when we went, the staff welcomed us and was nice that we were able to get in.
It was a bit cold but nice to sit outdoor and enjoy the view with hot teas.
All of the food/tea we ordered were really good and if you order tea, you get three rounds of it. (the staff will add water for you)
I love their matcha, made me think of the time i visited Japan.
We made reservations and loved our experience. The whole garden was magical and it was a great was to end our tour. Thank you.
I love the chicken teriyaki flavored rice with tea poured and wasabi in it. It’s surprisingly delicious. Never had this
Great tea and snack sets. Get a reservation if you don't want to wait 45 mins or more.
We had to wait a little long to get a table but it was just enough time for us to walk around the Japanese garden. The food and tea was good. Overall, it was a nice dining experience and great vibes.
My boyfriend and I made a reservation for this café to stop by at during our visit to the park, and I'm very glad we did! The tea and snacks were delicious, the miso was nice and hearty and the waiters were attentive without being pushy. I'd especially recommend the iced mecha and the Flight of Three mochi ice cream! They even cut the mochi in half for us to make it easier to share!? Can't wait to go back!
A serene experience, nestled within the Japanese Gardens. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time because this place is popular with the patrons of the garden!
Stopped by here on our visit to the Japanese gardens. Was a little disappointed by the selection and snack options. Also, the one minute timer only took 45 seconds to run. The music selection needs improving as well - there’s a 7 second music loop on repeat.
Stopped by because it was so hot outside and we wanted cold drinks and treats to cool us down. Prices were ok but the cold drinks were pretty disappointing. Iced matcha and barley tea just barely tasted like ice water with slight tea flavours.
