Indonesian Restaurant Wajan reviews
19Me and my family were in Portland and went to this restaurant and ordered some of Indonesian dishes; first the dessert was called "cendol" it was good but very small - pricewise; the main course "nasi campur" and some others do not have deep flavor and lack of seasoning as we know Indonesian foods have always rich with seasons and spices.
One of the only authentic Indonesian restaurants all over North America. The food was amazing and atmosphere is great. My go to place for lunch in Portland.
Disappointing; Indonesian is my absolute favorite cuisine and the sate, gado gado, babi kentang, soto ayam medan and ketoprak I bought today tasted way off, mis-spiced, and at some points repulsive. The only edible thing was the tempeh side dish. For $90! So bummed out, was hoping it'd be awesome.
The waitress almost dropped my fish cracker, she used her hand to catch it and continued to serve it on the table, The ceramic water cup is rusty on the bottom, they still use it to serve customers, then I asked to get a different cup, they came back with plastic cup with lipstick still on the side. Food serving size is too small for the price.
Nasi Campur with Ayam Goreng and Teh Jeruk Nipis to drink. Great food, good atmosphere and attentive service. Parking is on the street and can be tight.
Not at all crowded on a Sunday afternoon. There is a heated outdoor patio available to dine in, and it was a very pleasant little space. Lots of great food options, and everything was fantastic.
* First up was an appetizer, Martabak Telor Mini: "Egg, ground chili, shallots, green onions wrapped in thin flaky fried pancake" I was told it would be spicy, but it wasn't really. Just the tiniest hint of spice. Fantastic savory flavors!
* For a main course, I got the Ayam Bubur: "Savory rice porridge with turmeric broth, shredded chicken, crunchy fried soy nuts, green onions, kecap manis (sweet soy sauce), krupuk bawang (onion flavored tapioca crackers) " This had some of the most interesting texture of any meal I've had. There was a nice mix of crunchy and soft textures. Every single bite was interesting and tasty. Generously sized portion.
Service was quick and helpful. I'll be back!
30 minutes waiting for 2 meals. Service was ok, but it could've been better.
Not authentic Satay (chicken skewers with peanut sauce), the chicken is dry burned chicken hard to chew, and the peanut sauce doesn't taste right. Bubur ayam (chicken porridge) doesn't taste authentic either, the little peanut as garnish supposed to be crunchy, and they supposed to put celery as garnish instead of green onion because the green onion giving bitter taste to the porridge. The sauce of the porridge also doesn't taste right.
Had such an awesome birthday dinner here with some friends. I love the decor and intimate atmosphere. All the dishes were absolutely amazing and so different from anything I typically eat. It was very fun and the server was very accommodating and friendly. I'm excited to go back. Thank you!
Delicious and unusual. Outdoor seating available but a bit noisy. The enclosed patio was closed. I've never sat inside. This was my 2nd visit. Great options for vegan and gluten-free!
Resteraunts function largely due to two factors. Passion, and a Story. These folks bring both. They wanted to produce the best food of Fenny's childhood. You can taste, see, and smell her commitment to mastering the cuisine of her youth and it telling you the story of her family people in Jakarta. My favorite main dish is the Bubur, and don't sleep on the Tambahan dishes (this is their sides). They are all delicious. L Pro tip. Buy the spicy sauces.
Pro tip two, get a bag of their house coffee.
Rendang was outstanding and tender. Sate Ayam also nicely done and tender. Everything very fresh. Not fancy, but I’d be worried if an Indonesian restaurant were fancy. Great find.
Nice place, great food. For those people visiting or stay in portland if you like to taste Indonesian food, Wajan is highly reccomended.
It was cromulent. Pork belly sauce was a bit much and the hard bits in my starch cracker made it unpleasant, but the rest of the dish was fine. Drinks were sweet. Outdoor seating was a plus.
Outstanding!
It was incredibly flavorful, and had a very good presentation.
I have been daydreaming about going back for the last week.
I absolutely love this spot. Fantastic food and drinks. Every dish and snack is packed with flavor. Try a variety of sambal to accompany your order and get a cold creamy drink to ease the spice. Really happy to have been shown Wajan, it's a wonderful place.
Love the interior setup! The wall painting and the table bring back memories of traditional restaurants in Indonesia. Ordered Nasi Campur, Udang Balado, and Gado-Gado. Their Udang Balado is fantastic and really authentic, especially the spiciness level. Nasi campur and Gado-Gado taste delicious, but not as authentic as the Udang Balado. Overall, very satisfied with the experience and would definitely come back!
What an excellent and relaxing place! The Braised Beef was excellent and the atmosphere was relaxed and mellow. Service was on point!
Wajan offers fantastic Indonesian food with an authentic ambiance. The servers should consider avoiding Indonesian names for dishes to prevent confusion for non-Indonesian speakers. Adding pictures to the menu would be beneficial. Prices are a bit steep, but portion sizes are reasonable. Overall, a delightful experience for an authentic taste of Indonesia.
Ordered takeout for the first time after passing by so many times, can’t believe we took so long, it’s so good! Definitely ordering again!
