Zien Hong, Portland OR

The search is over! We almost gave up on good Chinese food and especially Cantonese which seems to be dying art in the northwest but my niece took us there for New Years and we were in hog heaven! Busy place and yes the greens beans are to die for and on every table. Sesame chicken was a nice surprise and only 1 dish out of 10 was ok, mapo tofu. Odds are good!

We went twice in the past 2 weeks. Some of the best dishes we have ever had. Large portions. Star off because the place is a little cold & the waitresses have been abrupt.

Simply the best American Chinese in Portland. We have some amazing traditional Chinese food in PDX but for the General Tso, Sweet and Sour, Kung Pao—- no one does them better than Zien Hong.

PLEASE READ! Don’t read the other reviews try this place before you think otherwise! I have been coming to Zein Hong since I was a little kid now I take my family. We almost go every other week, and we come from Beaverton. The fav dishes are Salt and Peppered Shrimp, we always order and extra one to go, and the General Taos chicken with a side of white rice. It’s always enough for my family of 4. And they are open till 11pm can’t beat that! 5 STARS AND SOME

It was one of the only places open on Christmas. So my boyfriend and I had to wait awhile which I expected. The food wasn't great though. The meat was a weird texture. My boyfriend was supposed to have three types of meat in his dish. He barely had any meat, it ended up being mostly vegetables. He felt like the meat had a weird texture as well. The sauce that it came in wasn't great as well, it left a bad taste in my mouth. I definitely won't be back. The staff were arguing a bit as well. They were probably stressed because of how busy, but they argued in front of the customers. It had 4.4 stars which is why we chose to go there over another restaurant. We seriously regretted it.

Wow I really love this place especially their fresh salad rolls and their fried egg rolls. Thier vegetables fried rice is better on the second day. My son Sean got chicken dish that was so good. Everything was fresh hot and delicious.

We ordered the lomein, the honey walnut shrimp and fried rice. The vegetables were fresh and the food a delight. I have a new favorite Chinese restaurant.

Satisfactory but not wowed. I've visited better but also been to worse. It came highly recommended so we thought we'd try it. Can't say I need to come back or would recommend.

This place is delicious! My wife and I have been going here for years! They really care that your take out order is just as good as having it at the restaurant: Salt and Pepper Squid is fried when you get there to pickup the food not before, and any sweet and sour dish is packaged with the sauce separate to make it stays crispy. Everything on the menu is yummy, and I think the most underrated dish is the Mapo Tofu. Get it with some rice, you can not go wrong!

I am in love with this place! The food is never anything less excellent. Sauces are flavorful and in correct proportions. Crispy things are perfectly crispy including the vegetables. Service is prompt and friendly.

We have been coming here for several years and have always enjoyed the food and felt the prices were fair. Since the pandemic there have been inconsistencies in the quality and quantity of the food but we kept coming back. After tonight we will be looking for a new place, though. We ordered take-out by phone and asked for, and they confirmed, a large order of shrimp. We got a 1/2 empty box with 5 small shrimp and a bunch of lettuce. They didn't taste good and the other food was pretty bland though it was supposed to be spicy. Not even sure what we paid for each dish, but it was more than the online menu. We completely understand how everything going on in the world is affecting businesses but the combination of lower quality, lower quantity and higher price is just too much. Very sad.

We were walking past today and decided to stop in. Staff was super kind and hospitable. Ordered the general tso's chicken and lemongrass chicken. The lemongrass chicken was good but didn't have much lemongrass in it so there wasn't much of a lemongrass flavor. The general tso's was ok. It was sweeter than other general tso's I've had and wasn't spicy at all. The chicken chunks were huge and I would have preferred they were smaller for that nice crunch. The broccoli on the side was cold. The dishes are pricey at $19 a plate and doesn't include rice so you have to pay an extra $1.50 to get rice. Which isn't much but come on. It should just come with the rice. Portion sizes are large so we definitely have leftovers for a second meal. Overall, it was alright. I don't think it was worth dropping almost fifty bucks after tip.

The final price I paid was waay more expensive then what i was expecting and from what was listed on the menu online. The food was good in my opinion but they put all of this liquid sauce inside of regular cardboard take out containers it leaked out the bottom of the containers like craazy and made a huuge mess. You don't put sauce like that in cardboard.

A place that my friend showed to me once and have consistently gone back every so often. Haven't been disappointed with their food quality yet

Ordered soup and noodles and chose mild for both. Both arrived blazingly hot. The noodles were not even mixed. There was a giant ball of chili oil/paste in the middle which was clearly added after they’d cooked the dish. I have a severe reaction to spice and I cannot support a restaurant that doesn’t take the health and safety of its customers seriously.

Sometimes it's the small "hole-in-the-wall" restaurants with the most amazing food. This was such the place. Very happy with our spur of the moment drop-in.

Four of us had a late lunch it was all delicious, the service was great and the staff were friendly. Thank you! You will see us again.

The food was really good. It came out quickly and the staff were very attentive. Worth trying out if you're looking for new Chinese food experiences.

Their foods are good, prices are a bit higher since the pandemic hit which is understandable for inflation and higher costs - no complaints! However, the service really needs improvement - you don’t smile, I am okay but if you yelling at your customers, I’ll think about it again for coming back.

Spent 18 bucks for 8 shrimp and sauce. Then ended up with really bad food posioning. Waste of money. SERIOUSLY dont eat here gets you sick and robs you of your money. #GordonRamsey please put them in check before anymore people get sick. PS dose not come with rice they charge more for rice with your order.
