ACNC is now under new administration effective Feb. 2023. This new Administrator is constantly working towards making our facility a better place. We have come a long way from our past reviews, and would like to recognize the appreciation our staff members here at ACNC for their hard work and dedication.

There is never enough staff. I wait long periods of time to go to the bathroom. Long periods of time to off of the bed pan. I get a sandwich in the evening but staff rarely brings it to me. I am getting bedsores. Hardly smiles and only one nurse asks if I need anything. I always get what do you want. Never can I help you. And now I have covid.

These people are clueless. Random policies that do not reflect any common sense. The patients and residents here must feel like inmates. My brother in law works for the prison system and says they treat the inmates better. The state should look into this place.

I hesitated to write this review because many of us have limited options for long-term care and I did not want to scare anyone who has the unfortunate experience of having the Altoona Center for Nursing Care be presented as the sole option for a loved one. Nonetheless, it would be irresponsible to withhold information or fail to share years of first-hand experience that may save a life.

The Altoona Center for Nursing Care is a killing field. The facility is a scary place where neglect, abuse and retaliation are de rigueur and predators rule. If the Altoona Center for Nursing Care is the only option for your loved one, be prepared to morph into a black hawk helicopter and operate 24 hours a day, every day. Doing so will be the only way to protect your loved one from the quiet carnage that routinely occurs at this facility.

The Altoona Center for Nursing Care is one of far too many examples of the appalling state of our country's long-term "care" system - a true embarrassment on the world stage - and it will remain so as long as we allow for-profit "care" industries to line the campaign pockets of politicians who protect them.

Avoid the Altoona Center for Nursing Care if you can. If you can't, be forewarned and forearmed.

If my memory serves me correctly, my nanny and her friend died weeks later after being here. This is a “last days” facility. Now my pop pop is here. I’ll edit this if my pop pop lives beyond 3 years with no infections due to this place.

I spoke initially with administrator about temporary placement for my mother while I had surgery. She seemed congenial and helpful during that call, but that was the one and only communication there was. I called 5 times over the next several days to gather more info and was given to her voicemail, and never got one call-back. For people supposedly caring for the elderly, there seems to be no signs of caring and empathy in my case. My experience was disconcerting and left me questioning this strange behavior, but later made sense when I read some past employees" reviews on indeed, com. Negative comments about management apathy/dysfunction and the high school-like behavior of workers isolating those not a part of the in-group suggests real problems that make me thankful they didn't call back. Read what their past employees wrote and you get an idea of what kind zoo this place is.

My mother was taken here for 4 days after the fire in an electrical box where she lived.
She had a wound that needed the dressing changed everyday. She had just been to see her wound dr. They did not change it the whole time she was there.
She has to use a walker to get around with assistance -they have signs posted in every room "call dont fall". She pressed her call button when she needed to use the bathroom and no one showed up so she had to risk falling to go. The rooms do not have phones in them, if you want to have a phone you must pay $45.00 to have one hooked up. Each floor has 2 portables phones and if one is available you may get to talk to the person who's admitted there.
I would not recomend this place to my worst enemy! Please do not put your loved one here.
