Amedisys Hospice Care, Harrisburg PA

DO NOT USE this agency! They will try to get out of paying every bill they can. I had to make at least 4 phone calls to get a bill paid when they finally said they would pay it. I gave the provider one last phone call after my mom's passing just to be sure it was paid before settling her estate and IT WAS NOT! Unbelievable! Then they don't have enough coverage if you're not in Harrisburg or Lancaster. The 'on call' nurse would say, "I can't get there for 45 minutes so it's up to you if you want to transport her to the hospital" which of course is the correct course of action then they'll deny the bill! Unfortunate because a couple of the attendants were very sweet and compassionate.

Also in general you should know that a hospice agency or at least this one is helping your loved one to die. They have no focus or training on helping your loved one to live. I was advised to go on hospice basically because my mom lost weight and it would pay for her Depends! Other than that and Alzheimer's she was very healthy. She got a UTI and they didn't want to do anything to help her or administer meds for the UTI! They said it would hurt (since she needed a shot). Any woman who has had a UTI knows how painful they are.much more painful than a shot!

100% DO NOT RECOMMEND. The worst hospice agency I've ever came across! John was our assigned nurse, not only has he ordered a medication that completely does not pertain to patient, refusal to use the correct pharmacy, he continuously will not fulfill request on supplies! No gloves have ever been provided to us, and just this week when asking for gloves, he stated he was going to his car to find some, proceeded to get into vehicle and leave. Patients catheter is not properly taken care of by nursing. John, the nurse also discontinued CNA help coming because he felt it was no longer necessary. I have worked with many hospice agencies and this by far is the absolute worst! Save yourself the hassle and select a different company, I am certain you will be thankful you did not choose Asana.

Excellent care and prompt response!

I cannot say enough about the staff at Asana Hospice. My friend's mother became ill and needed immediate management of her symptoms at the hospital. The medical team recommended Asana Hospice, and now we understand why! They arrived within one hour and immediately explained their services and managed her pain. The hospital staff had obvious respect for them, and they implemented the recommendations right away. The Chaplain came when needed and offered her services with a memorial if the family wanted to do so. The bereavement counselor will follow all of us for more than a year after her death if needed. I never knew how amazing this service was until my friend needed it. Thank you, Asana, for making a difficult situation as peaceful as could be.

Compassionate, available, professional and supplied every hospice need we could ask for!
Treated my great aunt with such great respect, and they were very attentive to all of the family's calls (and there were many of them!).
There was so much extra family baggage to go along with her dying, and the whole hospice team pulled together and helped everyone in the family with closure and good-byes.
We cannot say enough about the on-call response. It was 24/7 and immediate.

Service comes down to people and they have the best staff in the Capitol region. I used this agency for my family and would recommend you use them for yours too.

Best hospice around!
Case load manageable by RN Case Managers during the week, and then there are RNs who just take call off hours and weekends.
Many hospices require the Case Managers to rotate call which leads to tired and frustrated nursing staff which transfers to the patient, unfortunately.
Staff is very prompt at responding to phone calls and visit requests etc.
Bereavement counseling is available even for months after the death of your loved one. The Social workers and Chaplains are just amazing.
Supplies related to the hospice diagnosis are provided.
I cannot say enough positive things about them, and I have had to deal with many hospices in my line of work.
