AIG/AON is slimy. Do not go through Expedia travel insurance. They'll set you up with loser products like AIG/AON. Do not use this product if you are worried you may have an unforeseen event, they'll 100 percent scam you out of the money. They will do their best to weasel out of every reasonable circumstance.

My wife and I planned to join a family event and booked tickets. I had been talking with prospective employers for about five months at the time of the booking and although I didn't think I'd get the job, I was hopeful. I got the insurance just in case. A month prior to the trip (five months after buying the tickets), I got the job with the information that I have no usable vacation days for six months on top of having a special required work event the same week of the planned trip.

Naturally, I had to cancel the trip, again a full month before we left. Glad I had bought insurance. Boy was I about to get a wake-up call. They hid away in the fine print that reimbursement only applies if you were employed prior to purchasing the tickets, telling me I'm outta luck for what I thought was a very reasonable reason to cancel.

But hey, I'll take responsibility for this. I mean I should have known that getting a new job to provide for my family would disqualify me from receiving compensation.

These money grubbers could care less about "major life changes" or "unforseen events" and will try to snatch every penny possible. Now, maybe I'm being too harsh. Everyone knows the insurance industry is really struggling in this economy. AIG only had $55 billion in revenue. It makes perfect sense they'd do their best to make their coverage as limited and impotent as humanly possible to survive. I mean, something has to pay for AIG CEO Peter Zaffino's $75,314,199 annual salary. I know, I shouldn't be petty, after working at my job for 941.42 years I'll be able to earn that much too! We're basically the same.

But for real, if you want to actually improve your product Expedia, AON, and AIG. List things you actually cover instead of just saying, "Do you want travelers insurance in case of an unforeseen event? " Instead of trying to get an easy 30-50 bucks out of customers, give them a reasonable expectation of what they're protected by in the large script. I've never bought travel insurance before, thinking it a waste of money, I've walked away from this experience completely affirmed. What's the point?
