We have been in our Apex home for 5 years. The front just fell off the second bathroom sink cabinet. The other flaws have presented themselves long ago. The house has 2 siding doors. There are no wind baffles in the tracks. Found out when wasps were getting into the house. Surprise, you could see outside. Little annoying things, bubbles in the vinyl flooring and a small chunk of something under one of the planks, they didn’t want to pull up the floor to fix so it remains. Bedroom carpet extends past the doorway. Windows that don’ t work, siding falling off in the first year. Should have been clued in when we went to install the shelves in the upper kitchen cabinet and they were jammed into the cabinet and required the builder to come and remove them and cut to size. One cabinet the hinge screw was stripped and the door was hanging off. The screws in the shower stall were overtightened and one of the stops broke. Never got that replaced and got tired of trying. Little things like staples holding the floor in place outside of the shower stall. Still have an ink mark on the mud room floor where the carpet wasn’t cut correctly. Windows that leak air, you can see the curtains blowing, and the windows don’t open and close properly. Rusty nail pops after 2 years in a bedroom. For what we paid for the home with upgrades we could have had a custom built home. The first salesman we had was a great guy who encouraged us to come back and see how the build was progressing. Unfortunately he left the company and his replacement was unhappy that we wanted a final trip through the house before it was delivered. Started as a great experience and ended on a not so positive note.

I am posting this review here as Apex was our home manufacturer. We did get more response from Apex than our builder - however we are still struggling with the flooring that was installed. It has bubbles, nail pops throughout the home and many areas where the sub floor seems to have never been nailed down at all (And this is after they came to 'fix' it). This is the review I left on our builder's page - but I am unsure who is responsible for what as fingers were pointed at each other the entire time. I also want to give credit to the fact that when our fire place did not work - after multiple calls and a report to our State Board of Manufactured House, Apex issued a check to cover the cost of our fireplace - and because of this, I give 2 stars rather than 1.

LEFT REVIEW ON: COASTLINE HOMES OF MAINE dba SCHIAVI. I would agree with some of the other reviews. If I was to post a detailed review, it would take PAGES. We were sold hook, line and sinker by Kristin Jones who is abundantly friendly up front - but, rude and unprofessional when you question the finished product and the lack of quality provided. Once the contract was signed, the lack of communication began. The turnover at Coastline/Schiavi should have been a red flag in itself. We attempted to address our concerns with them directly, but it was a new site manager, new project manager so frequently no one ever had an answer. Multiple site visits were made (which meant time away from work for us) and no solution was found. Many decisions were made that impacted our end product without a conversation with us. We eventually asked the state to come in and do a full inspection because we were (and still are) continuously having trouble with excavation, craftsmanship of our home and various components that do not work. We learned from the state that no complaint is made public if Coastline dba Schiavi (or any modular builder) takes care of the problem in the allowed time. In our case, the 45 days allowed by the state (once they issued their letter indicating the found issues) came and went and we still were just 'discussing' a potential solution. Coastline blamed Apex, Apex blamed Coastline - we didn't care who was at fault, we just wanted the home we paid for. The complaint is now public and Coastline/Schiavi was fined a whopping $100 - no wonder they didn't care about the 45 days! I would be happy to share our entire story with anyone considering giving money to these folks. Do your homework, visit completed homes off the lot - not the references they provide as I'm sure they have a handful of happy customers. As we began sharing our story, we discovered MANY others who had equivalent experiences/trouble with Coastline / Schiavi. Please pay attention to finish work (the craftsmanship just isn't there), get other opinions on your excavation (our elevation changes were SUBSTANTIAL), make sure the concrete company is using new forms (we did end up with a discount for this, but a discount doesn't change what we have forever), honestly the list goes on and on - most importantly: GET EVERY SINGLE DETAIL, EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE IN WRITING. We had requested to speak directly with the President of Schiavi in hopes that we could share our experience with him - if nothing else - in hopes that it would help prevent this from happening to others (if he wasn't aware). He had no interest in meeting with us was the response we got. Truly unfortunate! We spent over a quarter of a million dollars on our forever home - we deserved, at the very least, a phone call. We are devastated that we chose Coastline/Schiavi to build our forever home. We built on family land that we will never sell and are stuck with a sub-par finished product. Please reach out to me if you have questions - [email protected]. I am sure that Coastline/Schiavi will have a well-crafted response to this review, but I encourage you to do a LOT of homework. All companies have some negative reviews - but, I urge you to pay attention to the consistency in these.
