Bar Avalon, West Chester PA

Dine here if you want to get sick or possibly die.
I asked that the Brussels sprouts be separated from the pork belly and without balsamic because of my food allergies. The plate came out and I took a couple bites of the Brussel sprouts only to discover the cooks had not done what I asked. Nothing came out as I requested. I simply said no sauces on anything or red meat.
I asked the server why they all came out normal, and (the server was really nice, not his fault) although he shouldn’t have delivered the plates knowing they did nothing I asked. He hinted at the fact they pretty much just didn’t want to. I had trusted them and wish I hadn’t taken any bites. I spent all last night in pain and nauseated. This morning I have to miss work as a result. Thanks a lot. You’re lucky I didn’t eat more. I would sue you. You already owe me today’s wages, but I just don’t want to deal with it. I come to West Chester three times a year with multiple clients, you’re definitely now on our “no go” list. Who does that? The cook didn’t “feel like it? ” You should be fired. Trying to hurt people.

Revised: John, the owner, contacted me personally and rectified the situation. Thats pretty impressive and I appreciated the gesture.

Food was good but I feel like i got ripped off on a take out order. Online menu showed one thing, it cost almost double at pickup and was told “the online menu is out of date”. Not my problem.

We love coming here! The bar is really fun to sit at to enjoy drinks which are some of the best in town. Kyle is one of the best bartenders and all the other staff is great as well!

Small menu but food is one of the few best options in the city. Eggplant chips are awesome. Have not had a bad meal there and have tried multiple items all great!

I’m not exactly sure what happened to this restaurant. It was a pretty great place with high level bar tenders and waiters.
Recently, the service was awful. The waiter forgot drink orders and requests on multiple occasions.
Completely apathetic about the menu and specials.
Cocktails and wine quality were sub par.
Unacceptable for several hundred dollars per couple.

Very good food and the service was friendly and professional. The noise level was too high. Our group of four had to lean in over the table to hear each other.

Been to Avalon in the past and always enjoyed. Last night had the Sesame Salmon Salad $28 - how you can mess up a salad is beyond me. Requested Romaine lettuce vs mixed greens - way, way too much, no noodles were added, no taste and the salmon might have been a $5.00 portion - if that - and way overcooked - very dry, tasteless and very disappointing. Service was great! In no rush to return

Excellent! Great service. We had a wine pairing with dinner. The waitress was very knowledgeable and provided great guidance. Food was outstanding.

Great atmosphere. Servers were fantastic. Food was delicious. Took our young adult son and we all found something to eat. All our entrees were delicious! Will definitely be back.

Ordered the ricotta gnocchi for $22 and it tasted like balls of bread that quickly disintegrated in my mouth: (I felt like I could distinctly taste each individual plant and ingredient that went into making this dish. My family had similar experiences: cold fries, salty sauce, small portions, poor quality. I had such high expectations, especially for a christmas eve dinner. AND there was no complimentary bread

I would recommend this place to everyone! From the fun happy hour bar area to the family accommodating dining room, this place is a must when visiting the West Chester area. I can’t wait to meet the owner the next time I’m in town!

First time dining there with my parents from out of town. Got there for an early dinner and had a wonderful experience with both the food and cocktails!

So good! Bar Avalon is my forever go-to for drinks and a nice dinner out in West Chester. Very attentive service and delicious food. Don’t even get me started on happy hour m-f. The lemon drops are to die for! Absolutely a top choice for dining and cocktails

Kyle is one the best bar tenders in West Chester. I start my Friday night with an espresso martini 2-3 times a month. I have never had a bad meal or bad service going when Kyle is behind the bar.

We had our wedding ceremony and dinner reception at Bar Avalon last weekend. Jennifer did an amazing job coordinating everything for us. My guest were raving about the food, They were very satisfied with every selection. The ambiance was perfect, and the location was the best.

Loved the experience at Bar Avalon.
We called ahead and reserved a table outside on a Friday summer night when WC closes Gay St. The vibe was amazing!
Food was delicious too with crispy calamari, light gazpacho, and Judy Foodie's Short Rib Pasta Special. The pasta could use a touch of something to lighten it up as it can be rather heavy. Portion sizes are huge so be prepared for leftovers!
Over server was hustling and did a great job looking after us and making sure we had everything we needed for a good experience.

I strolled into Bar Avalon randomly one night and ordered an espresso martini. It’s the best espresso martini I’ve had in a very long time. Easily the best in town.

I’ve continued to start my nights here with an espresso martini. Kyle and Ryan always take care of us at the main bar. Their hospitality is spot on and the reason I continue to return to Bar Avalon! The culture here is the best in town!

Had the gorgonzola mussels and they were out of this world. Drink was pretty good but I'm coming back for these mussels.
