Bistro Barberet & Bakery, Lancaster PA

Calling the Barbaret a "bistro" is a bit of a misnomer because the food is too posh, and the decor too swish, to fit into the already broad Bistro category. What you have here is a fine patisserie with a high-end French restaurant hidden in the back. All that aside, the quality of prep and presentation here is top notch. Fresh salmon appetizer, very well prepared mains with fresh bread, all excellent. Yes, they do serve Steak Frites, but that's about the only reference point to an ordinary restaurant. Fantastique for Lancaster. Barbaret is The King of King Street!

One of my favorite places to stop in Lancaster for dessert. They always have the best pastries and macarons, with a very large selection of both. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is always friendly. I can't leave Lancaster without making a stop here and I will always recommend people to go. The quality has stayed the same over the last 6 years that I have gone and I can't wait to go back soon!

A little pricy but the quiche and eclairs were amazing! And it brought back great memories of France!

This is the cutest little bakery I’ve ever been in. The desserts. I ordered the Azure, a vanilla macaroon and a blackberry macaroon. The sweet girl gave me a second vanilla without cohost because she highly recommended it. Adorable place everyone must visit!

5 minutes into opening the bakery they ran out of half of their baked goods.i was the 2nd person in the store.i know baking sucks but isn't that the whole point? To have more than 2 of what you're selling?

Had both lunch and dinner there today and will be back to buy bakery goods (open 9 to 2 on Sunday) for ourselves and neighbors.

Our first time there. Excellent experience. Great service and great food! I had the Short Rib, which was out of this world and the hubs had the veal meatballs. The only suggestion would be to have more than just 3 meatballs for the entrée serving, especially for the price. Regardless, he said they were good, just wished that there was more of them!

I have only ever experienced the bakery, but let me tell you this place is a gem. Walking into the bakery you are greeted by a decadent array of sweets and confections, all perfectly made with 5 star restaurant quality appeal. The selection is vast and you can be tempted by every sugary treat behind the glass. The price of their deserts are very favorable as you would pay close to 2-3x for a comparable desert at any fine dining establishment. You eat desert like a King at Barbaret.

I ordered boeuf bourguignon tonight for 30$ and I received a measly pre-made assortment of half cooked veggies and overcooked beef. This is so unprofessional. I will never order here again during covid.

Bistrot Baberet is fantastic. It is just like a higher end bakery in France (I lived in Paris for several years). I never ate at the restaurant, but I'm sure it is great too. About the bakery-the bread, croissants, cakes and pates are delicious, absolutely authentic, fairly priced for the quality (quality is high) and the staff is knowledgeable. My favorite cakes are the tarte au citron and opera. I have had all of the cakes and they are all excellent; just depends on what you like. I love this place.

Amazing service, beautiful presentation in the bakery and bistro. These pastries are divine! Absolutely French and some of the best even compared to France. The food is authentic with a bit of American twist, delicious. Express menu is a super value.

Enjoyed every moment of our experience here. From the Speakeasy vibe of the restaurant to the different baked goods we took on the road with us! Next time we are in the area will be visiting this Barberet first and foremost!

Estelle and Paul and the amazing chefs, waitstaff and bar tenders provided an extraordinary rehearsal dinner for my family of 60 people.it was amazing - the ambiance was perfect, the food was all exceptional and the beverages were perfect.this is a gem and worth the visit.the also provided a magnificent wedding cake - tiered and sheets of yummy deliciousness! The bakery is absolutely astounding here. How lucky Lancaster is to have such a unique and skillful bakery in their midst! Don't discount this place for a quick coffee on your way to work or errands, it will definitely make your morning!
