I don't know why this place has such a low rating. Believe me, I have a few gripes but as a whole, this is a good place to go to get the help you need. No place is perfect but if I had to be inpatient again for whatever reason, I'd definitely go back to this hospital. Is was very clean and the food was decent enough. And this place has outdoor time which is awesome. The Dr that worked with me was top notched and changed my life for the better. At first I thought she wasn't listening, but in fact she really was. Patients have to realize that they can't snap their fingers and meds appear. The staff on the units watches us and checks on us often because they report things like the patients behaviors because that, and vitals help the Drs decide on meds. Then they have to order them and deal with insurance issues before patients can get the meds. So sometimes it may take a few days. Also, they should definitely get more people donating clothing and hygiene items. Especially plus size clothing because they need them for patients that come there with nothing and are too far away from family members. They also have groups twice a day and they are actually phenomenal! They really have great people running the groups. I know everyone's experience is different, but like I said before, I'd definitely want to go back to Brooke Glen if I had to be inpatient again.

Not the worst but not the best. I was there just about a week ago for 23 days and I had a bad time there. The staff was rude on some accounts and they weren’t disrespectful. Other then that it was okay. There was one staff that stood out her name was bro I loved her because she was an outstanding person.

Horrible experience my child went for help and all she got was bitten by bug bugs, a dirty room. Staff Chanel (spelling probably wrong) but that's her name super rude and just lied about numerous things. Had to call and ask for a supervisor Kathy was amazing but still a one star based on my child being bit, placed in wrong unit and that Chanel girl.

I've been calling off and on for hours to this facility. There is no answer. The phone just rings and rings. Others have called and gotten no answer. Is anyone home? Odd that a 24 hour psychiatric facility is unresponsive. Unfortunately I'm trying to connect with a patient in there under emergent conditions. Not a good sign to say the least.

I Voluntarily checked myself in and this place and they made my existence a nightmare. My shoes was missing. My coat was missing and it was December in fort Washington pa. I went home with no coat. A guy that got released with me gave me a hoodie to wear after we started to walk to the train.ive been terrified to say anything because of retaliation. But the nurses was mean just not this one nurse called king. He was safe. They all had attitudes. No soap no shampoo. I'm black and I had to use margarine to keep my hair moisturized. I can't get better going here. Not even knowing I'll have shoes.

I stayed here in June of 2022 and can only now talk about my experience. When I met with the charge nurse for intake I was told I wasn’t trying hard enough and that’s why I was struggling. I had a panic attack for three days not eating or drinking and instead of addressing that I was not fed and was yelled at to come out for vitals. Once I realized they did not care about you or your symptoms I played the game for ten days to get out. On July ninth not even one week later I almost fatally overdosed because of this place. I was in the cardiac ICU and then went to LANCASTER BEHAVIORAL HEALTH for another ten days. Not the best place but way better than Brooke Glenn. No behavioral hospital is suppose to be fun of a vacation but I did expect to be mentally physically and emotionally taken care of. I watched someone take their life there. A fight break out. Someone sneak a vape in just to name a few. If you care about your mental health DO NOT GO TO BROOKGLENN. It’s funny because they will not even read this and respond “please message this person to make your time right. ” THE THING THAT WILL MAKE MY TIME RIGHT IS HAVING MY VOICE HEARD. I’m one year clean and so much happier. Your life matters. Take it 30 minuets at a time. Find your voice

Having personally endured a 10-day stay as a patient within this institution, I must regrettably attest to the alignment of my own experiences with the aforementioned allegations. During my tenure, I found the facility's faculty to be lacking in professionalism and, at times, seemingly indifferent to the well-being of the residents. This, coupled with a palpable erosion of personal autonomy, contributed to an environment that felt restrictive and, at times, dehumanizing.

My tenure as a patient prompted a deep-seated concern for the well-being of individuals within the facility. The reported litany of legal challenges against the institution underscores the gravity of the situation and raises questions about the efficacy of the care provided. It is disconcerting to note that my own encounters mirrored the sentiments expressed in the multiple lawsuits levied against the facility.

In light of my firsthand experiences, I fervently join the call for a comprehensive reevaluation of the facility's operations, advocating for the implementation of reforms to ensure the well-being and dignity of its residents. The hope remains that my fellow patients, past and present, will find the strength and means to seek legal recourse, holding the institution accountable for any lapses in care and ethics.

Furthermore, I implore individuals associated with this establishment, whether as staff or supporters, to critically examine their roles within the context of the serious allegations and consider the potential consequences of their affiliation. This is not merely a matter of institutional critique but a collective call for introspection and, where necessary, corrective action to rectify any shortcomings in the provision of care and uphold the principles of compassion and respect.

I only have very positive remarks to say about Brooke Glen and their staff. My son had been hospitalized twice before at building 52 in Norristown, and whatever their procedure was just didn't work. Fast forward 10 years, my son has a psychotic episode and fortunately ended up at Brooke Glen. This is the first time that anyone has been able to encourage my son to take antipsychotic medication, while in the hospital, and is continuing to take it. I can't thank enough Cate Richards, the social worker who went above and beyond to help our son, kept me informed of what was going on, and facilitated with our son's outpatient after care. Going through this crisis was devastating, but Brooke Glen and their staff helped tremendously, we are very thankful for their help.

I went here in late 2022 when I was 20 years old. I had great staff who where very informative my primary doctor recommended never drinking alcohol or smoking marijuana again which was harsh but with my best interest in mind. I felt uncomfortable around many other patients and was "accidently" hit with a basketball by another patient which was very bad because that had happened in elementary school as well giving me a severe concussion. I also had a putrid sewage smell in my room coming from a pipe in the bathroom. Hydrogen Sulfide is dangerous and patients shouldn't be exposed to it. They also allowed a patient to come into my room at night due to poor supervision who I had to tell to leave which still causes me mental distress. Overall somewhat low quality but the doctors will recommend healthy changes that can be made and practices to understand, recognize and prevent your mental health problems.

My care in the B2 unit was excellent during my 9 night stay to help me get off of my Klonopin prescription. 95% of staff including the RN nurses, techs, med. RN's, house-cleaning for my room, and the psychiatrist chosen for me were caring and really wonderful. Many of them hustle around so fast with work duties while also caring for anyone they come across who needs help to the point that I was amazed with their concern and work ethic. *very friendly staff and group counselors. Fresh fruits and vegetables are served daily, versus below A grade, canned, or frozen. My nutritionist was excellent too. *highly recommended

Unfortunately, they put the needs of the corporation above their workers' health. It's not a good culture for workers. I can't imagine what the situation is like for patients.

Absolutely HATED it there. The bad outweighed the good in this case. I was sent here during my time in middle school, it was recommended by a school counselor when I was suffering from hallucinations, and was discharged 30 days later. It felt like the staff practically treated you as nothing more than just a liability. Had all of my belongings taken from me and couldn't so much as draw (which they only allowed that with group art/music sessions.) I remember calling my mother one night scared and she told me that this was the best thing to help with my mental state. Didn't make things better for me, plus the medication I was given made me even more miserable. My roommate was violent, she punched a hole in the wall of our room, would kick at the wall and swear at the staff. One night, she gets up in the middle of the night for some ice and she was held down by the staff as she screamed, cried and swore. We did get to know each other a bit, but there were times we didn't see eye to eye. The only positive thing I could take away from this was that some of the staff were nice, and some of the younger kids I was put with got along with me fine. But I would never want to come back here again if things took a nosedive for this place.

I am the mother of a 43 year old man who came to you in the midst of a psychotic break. In every communication we had, I told you that he has significant intellectual disabilities because of his genetic condition 48xxyy. This is why he always needs help with reading and asks for my assistance with all medical paperwork.
This is a documented part of his medical history which you consistently ignored throughout his stay, with the exception of his case manager, Ms. Beers. She made every effort to make this a headline in his diagnosis and treatment plan.
Unfortunately, from the moment he arrived until his discharge, this fact was put on the back burner and he was handed one form after another which he signed without appropriate guidance or reading assistance.
I was not included in these processes even though he signed papers that asked for my inclusion as his primary contact. Your admission tech seemed out of her depth and did the most fragmented intake I, as a professional RN, have witnessed.
His respiratory status also never made it to his medical Kardex and he had no access to his inhalers, overlooked by your medical team until just before his discharge. Poor management and fragmentation, again.
Then he contracted Covid, and was not given the expected dose of antiviral medication that someone with his respiratory risk factors should have received.
He was put in an isolation room. No TV, no therapeutic inclusion, just left alone with his thoughts until discharge.
I know all about staffing ratios and overworked team members, etc, but I also know that this is an unacceptable excuse for poor patient care.
Shannon Beers left for vacation and put his discharge in the hands of a substitute case manager who was ill-prepared, made remarks about how many clients were ahead of him in discharge paperwork and planning, and I could not expect her to drop everything to attend to his case.
I asked to bring him home early since he would be receiving no behavioral health treatment over his final week in isolation.
She could not possibly do so unless I took him AMA so medicare/medicaid got to pay Brooke Glen for his extended and pointless stay.
I cannot give this place a gold star for the experience my son had at your institution, but I do think his mental health is now stable, primarily due to the length of time he spent without access to medical marijuana and cigarettes. This, and resumption and adjustment of his antidepressant and antipsychotic medications did stabilize him.
You need to improve your internal communications. One hand seemed to never know what the other hand was doing.
I am going to make a guess that this communication will be reduced to checkmark in a box somewhere that will never be of any use toward future patient care at Brooke Glen, but it gave me the opportunity to vent my frustration over our firsthand experience of the current state of mental health care for those who cannot afford premium health insurance in this country.
Thanks,
Jenny Blair, mother of Edmund Blair

Staff would talk face to face with a covid positive patient with no mask on. Submitted a grievance which did nothing because apparently despite the “masks are required on this unit” signs everywhere, I was told it was at staffs discretion to mask or not even though it effects EVERYONES safety not just theirs. Doctor was useless and only focused on medication. Most staff are horrible, slam doors and wake you up at 5am for vitals. Denise was one of the only good staff members there other than my therapist. If i could give 0 stars I would.
