Chatty Monks Brewing Company reviews
17Busy busy for a Sunday afternoon, but the service was quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. The beers were fresh and went down well after a grueling hike. We shared the small nachos with vegetarian beef (perfect size for sharing, while allowing room for a handheld or entree). I had the jerk chicken kathi handheld- so flavorful! It was a tasty take on Indian fusion. Would definitely recommend
In this day and age of being over-surveyed, it's easy to just move along and not bother to comment on something. But after the great experience I enjoyed at Chatty Monks last night I felt like I needed to. The key to it all was Jose. Bartender, greeter, advisor, storyteller, you name it.all covered. With a smile. Started out great and kept it at a high level. It just made us say "man, this is what we want every time when we go out to a place. "
Different beers were explained, and we both went with a flight. Great beers all around. Plenty of different styles, everything was solid. To eat, we ordered the Monk Rolls and the Pub Style Nachos with Impossible Chorizo. Nice portions and great tasting. Plenty of other great sounding unique choices on a large menu. Another time.
Last shout out, to the owner Raj, who popped in just before we had to roll out. He greeted us from behind the bar immediately. He asked how we were enjoying ourselves, and then rather than just walking away, spoke to us for a lengthy conversation. He even shared stories of his own of great nights out when we said we were out on a surprise date night. He asked us if we would like to try some very small samples of different beers on tap that we hadn't tried which we were happy to agree to. He didn't need to do something like that, which makes it mean more I believe.
I guess the key to it all is that when it's all said and done, every other corner now seems to have a brewery or a restaurant with great craft beer, but it's still people who make the difference. Quick smiles, genuine warm welcomes, and people who really seem to like interacting with their customers elevate Chatty Monks well above the rest. I highly recommend a visit.
Had an amazing experience at Chatty Monks in West Reading.
It's a nice little taproom with an excellent staff and some good entertainment. Open mic's every other tuesday and sometimes they have a band. Not sure the schedule, check out their website! You probably will cause you're already reading their review!
Just wanted to say it's a little gem in West Reading. Special shout out to Sarah and Jose who are super friendly and hospitable. It was just an overall good experience. I was having a rough day and it really turned things around for me. Service was good, food was good, promptly treated, great place for a nice semi lively not too loud not too quiet date night.
Would highly recommend!
I do not write reviews… actually I think this is the first, but I had to. Man do I wish we lived closer to here! We came to visit before a show we were seeing at Santander Arena. It combined my two favorite things: Beers and Indian Cuisine! The food was so good, I may have burnt my mouth a bit cause I couldn’t wait to dig in. The service was excellent, thank you Sarah for taking care of us out of towners. The vibes were excellent. Next time I come to Reading, this is a MUST stop.
Hard to find a great bartender nowadays. For so many reasons not mentioned, great service.
Nice speaking with you Matt what a great time we had learning of different taps thanks for the hospitality brother.
I was really looking forward to trying this place for the first time, but they don’t honor reservations apparently.i made the reservation earlier in the week and called to confirm only to be told they don’t have it. It’s a shame, the way it was handled doesn’t make me want to try now. Oh well, plenty of other restaurants in the area.
Food was good. Service was good. Good music chilled laid back atmosphere. We got the Nan bread pizza, frues, eggplant fries and salads.
We didn't get enough silverware or napkins, 2 for 5 people. No plates for our shared appetizers that came out with no chicken, lots of broken chips. The waitress asked if we wanted a new one which we said yes. Out came a bowl when we were almost done of chicken. We asked for beer cheese on the side after and the nachos came out. It didn't arrive until the main course came out. We eventually got the nachos with cheese after everyone was eating. The bottom of the water pitcher was brown.
Great local spot for good beer and food. Love the atmosphere. Definitely worth stopping in
The food is good. I enjoy coming here. However they advertise gluten free on some of their dishes. I would be careful with cross contamination. They don’t have a separate fryer. When I questioned the waitress about it she admitted to me it’s not totally gluten free. It’s fine if gluten free is a trend for you. If you have celiacs it’s a different story.
Went last night for dinner and was unfortunately pretty all around disappointed with the experience. Took 40 minutes to get a beer, food orders were incorrect, couldn’t get silverware or napkins, food was not hot, and service was just incredibly slow. One positive is that the food was good, but would’ve been better if it was hot and we had silverware. Don’t think any of us will be going back.
Eclectic brewery in West Reading. Great beers and food was delicious. We had the paratha sandwich with paneer, hamburger was cooked to perfection (mr of course) you can buy their beer to go
Great place! Staff was super nice. Owner talked to us for a long time. Definitely going back!
I’ve been here multiple times and I’ll likely be here again but something needs to be said for preparation and ability to maintain your beers.
Came in Sunday evening to a light crowd and three beers I wanted all kicked. How are you a brewery that doesn’t have a second keg that can be swapped over? Is the bartender just not trained in swapping the lines for the new keg? I’m baffled at a brewery running out of a keg and not changing it or having alternative to fall back on.
The food is always great - and the beer is great and the owner genuinely cares about the experience and quality his customers receive so I’m hoping he sees this and can address this for future business as this is the second or third time I’ve been to his location and experienced multiple kegs with good beers kicked.
This place changed hands earlier this year and it's not what it used to be. The food is pretty much all Indian, which I really like, but don't really associate beer with Indian food.
Cute little brewery - very clean and well put together.
The menu was unique and offered a variety of different foods. We got the Tandoori wings and they were perfect.
Also loved the Horchata beer. Service was a little slow, but everything was great quality.
The fireplace tables outside are a nice touch
