Ophthalmologist Collin Hair reviews
5Relocated to the area and needed to establish my (19 yo) son with an ophthalmologist who specializes in strabismus (crossing of the eyes) for annual eye check ups. I researched online and found Dr. Hair. When I called to make an appt, the nurse said that he only sees pediatric patients. I explained that my son had been diagnosed with strabismus at age 4 and has seen by a pediatric ophthalmologist for the last 14 years. The nurse said that he does in fact follow adults for strabismus (only) and scheduled our appt. We went to the appt with a folder of yearly exam notes from my son's previous eye doctor so Dr. Hair could get to know my son's condition. He declined the need to view the notes and continued with the exam. After a series of visual checks, he said his eyes looked fine. After going to 14 years worth of eye appts with my son, I was pretty familiar with the process, so I asked if he was going to dilate my son's eyes? He said no, that his eyes looked fine. He then proceeded to discuss that if we weren't interested in surgery to correct my son's eye that we should just go to an optometrist for regular eye checkups. Although he was very polite, I felt like we were getting brushed off. Needless to say, I don't feel that he thoroughly examined my son's eyes for what should have been an annual eye exam. It was not even close to the thoroughness and carefulness of our past ophthalmologist. Not sure if this is doctor specific behavior or a standard for Geisinger in general? Either way, I was underwhelmed and displeased with the level of care given to my son. I will be looking outside of Geisinger for future medical care!
Went to Dr. Hair based on all the high reviews of his care and ability to work well with children. His initial interaction with my son (4 yrs old) was great but when it came time to dilate his eyes, he had me help hold him down and then when my son continued to cry afterwards, he told him he "needed to calm down, it wasn't that bad". Then when I proceeded to ask about my son expressing to me regularly that he sees double, he told me he wouldn't be too concerned with what children say because who knows if they are telling the truth. Additionally, when I asked him about vision therapy to help correct my son's eyes from drifting (a recommendation from my son's optometrist), he said that's something optometrist like to suggest but it doesn't help (in a very derogatory way). It couldn't hurt but no proof it helps and that was the end of it. No support in the fact that I still wanted to try it. If it can't hurt, then why not try? I will do whatever I can to try and improve my son's sight. Overall very disappointed with my whole experience (didn't even get into the whole scheduling fiasco) but definitely will not be returning!
Did great with my baby after spending time in the NICU. Also was great with my older son when he went to get tested for glasses. Very nice and professional
I never, ever leave reviews. Dr. Hair was phenomenal with my daughter! I was jaw to the floor shocked with how patient and simple he made her appointment. He did everything he could to keep her calm and relaxed (which is hard for a 15 month old). I would recommend him to anyone!
He has a new location in Pittston, but he is quite possibly the best pediatric medical professional I have ever come across. He shows extreme patience and adapts to the child in front of him, no forcefulness or rudeness from him or his staff. He explains things in detail and answers every question, and he is dedicated to helping kids see their best. Hes a wonderful doctor and I'm grateful for his time. He is extremely creative with getting the kiddo to cooperate so he can get the data necessary. Phenomenal doctor and very friendly staff
