Di Bruno Bros. reviews
4They gave me a porchetta sandwich the size of my head. Super nice staff.
I have genuine concerns about the sanitation and food safety of this restaurant. While waiting in line i saw a food worker sneeze into her hands and then continue making a sandwich without washing her hands or removing her gloves. Needless to say we did not eat here. I have a friend that also found hair in her sandwich last week! Don't eat here!
Di Bruno's is a Philly legend. They sell top-notch ingredients at top-notch prices. They also do one of the best Italian pork sandwiches in the city. But this review is about the foccacia sandwich I bought today: Abbruzzo Amore (apologies for bad spelling). This thing was huge! It was also made right in front of me from fresh ingredients. There's no doubt about it, it's a work of art; it's also exactly as described. Now I can't work out whether it's amazingly good, or awful. Hear me out.
Firstly, the bread is made there and, as you can see in the photo, is fresh and oozes oil - it's foccacia - arguably it's supposed to.
Secondly the ingredients are high quality, in large portions, but the ensemble is so rich and creamy (and huge) that eating the whole thing feels like asserting yourself to be the fat greedy westerner that the rest of the world despairs about.
Thirdly it costs $15, hich is not overpriced considering the size and the ingredients IMO.but could they not do a $7 version at half the size? Maybe I would walk away feeling less oily and stuffed.
It's a terrific sandwich. And also gross. See the problem?
Focacceria, their new sandwich concept, is one for the ages! Great quality meats, cheeses, and spreads - with impeccable made to order service! The sandwiches are reasonably priced for their size, be prepared to share with a friend or take some as a leftover home.
