Diakon Adoption & Foster Care, Mechanicsburg PA

Used to be great- all the experienced staff have left and no one knows what they’re doing anymore. Promises lots of support but doesn’t actually deliver when it counts.

We have been working with Diakon for a few months now as we have been working on becoming approved as Foster parents. They have been very helpful throughout the whole process from beginning to end. They have done an excellent job keeping us informed with everything and helping complete the paperwork needed. They did an awesome job writing up our home study, a very professional job. We recommend them to anyone looking into foster care and adoption.

We were so confused and overwhelmed by the foster/adoption process and they have been amazing. The level of care and support that they have provided has been invaluable. Our caseworker has been so patient and helpful. We can't imagine a better organization to work with!

My husband and I started the foster care process about 5 months ago and Diakon has been nothing short of amazing! They have been super responsive and answered any and all of our questions. Our experience with Diakon was wonderful; the trainings were very thorough and they even offered a sibling training. Our worker was very patient with us and took time to carefully answer all of our many questions! Diakon is so supportive of their foster families and we feel well-prepared for our first placement.

We started this process in May 2019. We decided to go with Diakon, and let me just say Diakon has been an absolute blessing. We could not be anymore happier with our decision. I know the whole process can seem so overwhelming, but Diakon made sure to be there every step of the way with us. Anytime we need anything we message our worker Heidi and she is always quick to respond to us either with an answer or letting us know she will figure it out and get back to us and she always gets back to us. She hears us out, she listens to our concerns, and really is a great support for our family. We initially went into this just wanting to adopt a waiting child, but after going to training and learning all the things, we decided we would be open to it all as it would work for our family. When I say everything I should clarify, we decided to be open to foster, adopting and respite. Our first kiddo came to us for respite three days after we were certified and needless to say she is officially moved in with us. Respite doesnt normally work like this, but last family wasnt working. We were so nervous and unsure as she was a teen and that was not something we had been open to. Our worker talked to us and walked us through everything, always hearing us out and still letting it be our decision. I am so happy to say that said kiddo is still with us and I can't ever imagine not having said yes to her! She is so amazing. So a huge thank you to Heidi and the Diakon team for always doing what is right for these kiddos but also doing what is right for these families opening their home to try and make the world a little better.
