Bar Doggie's Pub reviews
18Staff here needs some serious training. A member of my party was kicked out for gathering enough chairs for us to sit on. No explanation, no warning. We all left. There are plenty of other establishments in state college that we can happily support with our alumni dollars.
I’m 40 years old and got kicked out for grabbing a chair that was 3ft away from a “roped” off area. Myself and 8 other alums left. We won’t bring our money back and we will absolutely make sure no one else will. I grew up here. Sad to see places like doggies rip the character and soul from my hometown. Save your money. I’ve spoken with people around town and after reading other comments, it’s blatantly obvious that ageism is alive and well at “doggies”
If I could leave 0 stars I would. What is with the “security” that is employed by this place? Minutes after my friends and I arrived, we were abruptly all kicked out because 1 of us went to get 1 extra chair for our table so that we could all have somewhere to sit, 1 stinkin’ chair! Are you kidding me? ! All of us were kicked out for that? ! What is happening here and what did you do with the good ole Rathskeller? ! Needless to say we will not be returning and will be be sure to tell all of our alumni friends and family!
Fun lil place! The water spritzers in the heat aren’t for Everyone, but I found them refreshing
Writing this as I am leaving the premises. Kicked out for dancing to the extremely loud music in the bar and being too “intoxicated” although only drinking water for past few hours. The young “security guard” who looked like he was in training refused to give an admissible excuse other than being too intoxicated along with his co-workers and supervisor backing him up. As well as after a fully coherent conversation with the supervisor they were adamant I was apparently too intoxicated. I wish an establishment of this status would employ more professional and competent security compared to the young gentleman tonight. Fortunately for my peers and I, we will not be returning to Doggie’s Pub after experiencing the joke of security they employ.
They have a good collection of beers. An interesting thing is their list of draught drinks are not all beers. For example, I had this drink called Hop tea. No idea what kind of alcohol it has but If you like sweet drinks and tea, it's for you.
It's a great place but lately it should be called the "no doggie's pub". I used to come to state college regularly, and I could bring my dog everytime. Now we can get in only if we have luck. The rules are constantly changing.
Best pizza in the state of pa
well: edited to change from 5 to 1 star because they love to throw people out to move the line along.we had JUST gotten there-literally quietly standing by a pole and had just gotten our first drink-and we got told to leave because they wouldn’t serve us anymore. NEVER going back to what was once my favorite bar and pizza place! It’s too bad.
Still wish this place was the Skeller but it is a pretty great atmosphere. Inside or outside, great place for drinks.
Awesome place to hangout during the day with the best outside area in town. Great vibes and drinks
Went out of their way to kick out people because of being slightly busy. As someone whose never been kicked from a bar and someone who barely drinks 4 drinks over 5+ hours it was offensive on all sides.security was not offensive but their choices that night were pitiful.
This is now the place to be in state college.
People saying “this is not the skeller”…yeah because it’s much better. They kept the charm while expanding to a large outdoor patio, and opening up so much space inside to make it much more comfortable and fun.
The staff was also good. But big shout out to manager Tyler who helped out my group and was sharp, which had us coming back the next evening too!
Love this place, can't wait to go back and sit out when it is warm. Music is great and reasonably priced drinks. Awesome pizza and enen better garlic knots. I am not a beer drinker put the mango one was so good I had 3 glasses and the raspberry lemonade is to die for
Great bar, but it is frequented by students who are in a different tax bracket than myself
First time in State College and while walking around, I saw a mural/sign with dogs and Yuengling Beer here. Just wanted to take a picture and was asked for my ID. It wasn’t even in the bar and neither was I. Really? My ID to take a picture. I read other reviews about “security” and the mention of the words “power trip, ” I guess this was one of those times. I know one place I won’t visit if I make my way back to State College.
A cool college town bar. Great place to meet friends for a drink. If you can't go to the game watch it on TV here.
I loved doggies until they kicked me out for absolutely no reason. I had two drinks there (with none previously) and was kicked out due to my “stumbling” while searching for a friend. There were others who were clearly more intoxicated than I was. He gave me no other reason than he had been watching me, which is not true cause it had been the first I saw that specific security person. Upon telling him I am autistic and never walk straight, he disagreed. I then told him he’s discriminating and he further disagreed. I have never walked normally in my life due to autism, and with the place being busy, I was constantly being bumped into and often lost my balance because of that. Finally, I told him a friend was in the bathroom and needed to get her before I left and he, with another security man, FOLLOWED ME to the WOMENS bathroom and WATCHED ME while I ensured my friends were okay and leaving with me. He ensured he watched me the entire time, even in the women’s bathroom, which is also an invasion of my and others’ privacy. A friend of mine even expressed their discomfort by their watching of me. They chose me at random to kick out then chose to discriminate when they realized they were, in fact, in the wrong. It is not okay for male employees to be looking into the women’s restroom, whether the door is propped open or not, to watch a female guest, regardless of whether she needs to be leaving or not. The security are on a power trip and love to discriminate.
I have so many friends that love doggie’s and I hoped to have the same experience. I’ve been here four times and two of those four times I have had terrible experiences with the staff causing me to leave. I wanted to give them a second chance after the first incident and then was confirmed I’m never coming back here after the second. They have overpriced, mediocre drinks and disrespectful staff. It’s like they just want to make people hate their business. I haven’t encountered any other business that is blatantly rude to paying customers.
